2009 Vintage poured into a Westy chalice.

Spicy, fruits, a bit of jam. Creamy and smooth. Light head retention lingers as the level in my glass gets lower.
Almost couldn't believe I saw this on the shelf. 10/10. would buy again

Incredibly complex and melded together beautifully, all components- from barrel to fruit, from spice to sweetness, from vinous to malt all fit together in a seamless and decadent taste.

Its deep russet brown is ominously dark, approaching a stout-like austere. With a simmering froth constructing on top, its sultry aromas are bountiful with candied scents of plum, blackberry, raisin and cherry. Further reinforced in its sweetness, light maple and brown sugar wrap the fruit in a cake-like cocoon.

With notions of fruitcake swirling on the palate, a spicy balance introduces red wine, oak, peppercorn, and a supple fennel earthiness. Its full middle lays on the tongue with a boozed sweetness seemingly of rum cake to highlight elements of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Its long and decadent finish is slow to release. As its sweetness gently rolls off the palate, its brandy head builds and those apple influences take hold. Slight numbing warmth and wood spices give a soft dryness to the otherwise savory dessert beer.`

Vintage 2008

-Pours a dark reddish-brown with head reducing to fine lacing.

-Delicious aroma of sherry, plum / jammy dark fruit, sweet molasses, beef gravy and cardboard

-The taste is oxidized and one dimensional. Unfortunately that dimension is cardboard. There is a pleasant note of dark fruit finishing with with a hint of soy sauce and bitter malt. An unpleasant aftertaste develops.

-Mouthfeel is silky with very fine, creamy carbonation.

-I think this would have been a very fine beer in its prime. I recently had a 2010 Reserva that rocked my world. This is a shell of that beer. I am giving extra points to the overall score given that opening any beer at this age is a crapshoot and that Pannepot has not disappointed me in the past.
