American Double / Imperial Stout |  12.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
"Black Damnation II is yet another blend with the use of Hel & Verdoemenis from Brouwerij De Molen. This time even more complex than BD I.

50% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. 25% of H &V was used that aged for 6 months on JD barrels. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was used."

Poured a dark dirty brown with a thin yet persistant tan head.

The smell is very sweet and fruity with a big hit of concord grapes, no traces of coffee or chocolate to be found here, smells much more like a belgian strong dark than an imperial stout.

The flavor follows the nose up front with big sweet dark fruit flavors, but soon after the dark roasted malts start to hit you in the finish giving it a lightly smokey bitter finish. Also so light vanilla and alcohol notes show up along with some dark chocolate and light coffee notes as it warms.

The mouthfeel is velvety smooth and creamy with a light bit of oilyness in the finish.

Kind of strange Imperial stout, you can really taste the belgian roots affecting this in an odd sort of way. Still I would happily drink more if it were easier to come by.

Serves in a snifter at Ale Arsenal.

A: Black. No head. Reddish edges but opaque.

S: It smells sour, wine-like.

T/M: It tastes completely different. Booze, vanilla, hints of roasted coffee, grapey finish. Rather thin bodied, especially for the ABV.

O: Delicious, but not exceptional. I wouldn't have another, but it's definitely interesting.

Serving type: on-tap
