L: dark amber, apple tree furniture like
S: caramel, dried fruits, apple, prunes, notes of hay
T: sweet, notes of bourbon (b/c of barrels), dark bread crust, kvas like, plums, a hint of coffee, cola lollipops in the finish
F: dry finish, almost no carbonation
O: very nice quadrupel. Not the most interesting, but definitely worth a try. High quality beer.

330ml bottle from House of Trembling Madness, York (£4.70):
2019 Vintage - Dark brown, bordering on mahogany with a thin & patchy lacing on thats bubbly white. It's a sweet nose with prunes, dates & raisin initially, some caramel malts & figs too; quite rich with faint alcohol on a sweet malt & biscuit base. There's more alcohol & bourbon flavours with the taste, its sweet here too with more dates, figs, prunes & other dried dark fruits. It's a little too strong & boozy for me, the balance isn't quite right either & while it's full-bodied, smooth & fairly complex, it's not the easiest on the palate with more bourbon flavours showing than I'd have liked.

A quad shouldn't be this drinkable but somehow this one is. Really just unbelievable how they were able to pull this off. Would almost certainly make my desert island list of beers. Hard to top this one

A 330ml bottle, 2013 vintage, bottled on 21st June 2016. Poured into a Chimay goblet glass.

Appearance: A hazy dark brown colour with no head and no lacing.

Aroma: Malty, dark fruit, plum, prunes, raisin, with notes of caramel and bourbon.

Taste: Sweet malt, moderately sweet, dark fruit, prunes, raisin, caramel, toffee, bourbon, boozy.

Mouthfeel: Sticky, medium to full bodied with soft to moderate carbonation.

Overall: An enjoyable sipper. I preferred this original, over the cask strength version just a bit more.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country and style, zero reviews below read (yet!)...

L- Very little foam so I raised the pour to encourage some. It did that 'silent pour' thing, ie zero splashing... but also effectively zero head either. I know it's a Quad so maybe the ABV% is simply too high to support bubble retention (surface-tension etc).
It's not a thing of beauty with almost zero head though. It resembles a slightly red coke as much as a beer, some haze and some sediment left a bottle.
S- Mild for me! Hard to define anything much. I briefly think I might have a barrel note, brandy? but so fleeting I can't confirm it.
T- Boof! Pungent for such a mild smell. I do think this is barrel-aged, it has a wine-like note so I'm thinking cognac/brandy? It has notable acidity too which is the 'wine-like' aspect. There are occasional flights into the depths of it's Taste, thoughts of deep/pungent British Xmas pudding, a heavy brush of alcohol across the palate. It's clearly pretty high ABV% and yet a surprise is that it isn't over-rich. Again the winey/acidic note reins that in.
F- Clearly a big proposition here and something niche and 'special'; but there is zero CO2 in the mouth too. This is a major negative to the overall enjoyment (IMHO!).
O- Certainly different, and it's quite a beast of a statement. Everything here for me is 75% in the taste, 25% in the feel; the looks are not great and the smell is aloof at best. Conclusion: Interesting to try, and I'll very happily finish it, but there 's just not enough here for me to buy it again.
ps. I will read other reviews after posting this, but I'm half-wondering if I might have a dud bottle and others report 'wonderful foam head on this' etc. We'll see! Hard to rate as it's a seriously Chalk versus Cheese one for me....

Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! --> Unpasteurised and bottle-condtnd. Use your mob-camera to zoom in close to the detail on the lable - hehe!. Ok... 'Aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for 2 years, Vintage 2018'.... Oh and ABV%? ... 10.5
330ml bottle £5.95 'BB: 01/10/2020 + 5YRS' Bought from BeautifulBeers/BurySt.Edmunds as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
p.s I drank this straight from the fridge but if I were to be given a bottle of this for a second go I'd bring it out of the fridge 1/2hr pre-opening. It needs help opening up and having it's flavour spectrum more visible. Overall pretty disappointing.

Lovely dark ale with notes of raisins, deeds, caramel, fresh yeast and dark chocolate. Smooth and complex. Very well balanced ale with a well rounded body.

De Zombier. En copa Grimbergen. Viendo Los 100 1x07-08. La mejor struise que he probado. Llena de deliciosas frutas oscuras y alcohol bien oculto. Solo se echa en falta mas cuerpo y mejor aspecto (no genera casi nada de espuma)
