Using an unusual combination of four types of malt barley, oats, wheat and rye. Malty profile with hops extremely timids, always in the background.
A: dark amber body with a good and persistent head.
S: Not quite what you would expect from an IPA. Sweet caramel notes and some citrus in the background and something with peach fruit notes.
T: follows the smell with an entry malty caramel and a final herbal hops were slightly dry. Herbal and resinous hops in aftertaste with some metallic notes. Some sweet notes of what appears to be Belgian sugar and orange marmalade.
F: Medium body and medium carbonation.
O: Disappointing due to lack of strength.

33cl Bottle: Lot 15 from 12/2011, best before 31/5/2014. Poured into a Forbidden Fruit chalice on 18/10/2013 during a random beer tasting with myself. No idea where I got it from, most likely De Bierboom in Brugge?

The beer sat there quiet content, I opened the bottle and still all is calm: tilt to pour and the brew rushes out like a gushing volcano, huge cream coloured head and half a chalice of beer! So the first (half) pour gives the big head and a clear amber body, the second brings the sediment, extra smells and oomph.

Intense spicy hop aroma, even from the first pour, yeast esters and a malty undertone come as the beer warms a little.

The taste is hop led, but a semi-sweet maltiness arrives mid-sip: I think the brewers like to play with the beers names and brew whatever they wish before choosing a style/name to hide it under.

I enjoyed it, like all the Struise beers I've had so far (I think).

APPEARANCE: Pours a murky, unfiltered light brown with an off white pillowy head. There is a light yeast sediment which was not unexpected.
SMELL: Bready malts and floral hops, blanketed by a rustic Belgian yeast.
TASTE: Nutty malts, dark fruit, and a citrusy, earthy hop profile are the major players in the taste. Bright hops in what seems more like a dubbel than pale.
FEEL: Medium bodied brew, prickly, semi dry carbonation and mild hop bite.
OVERALL: Deeper colored Belgian IPA with good character. Dark, toasty bread and tropical citrus. Quite good and unique.

L: off white thick head, copper body, some chunks of sediment

S: bready malts, phenols, hop aroma is faint and uncertain: spices, pines, oranges, get some alcohol and ethylacetate as well but not in unpleasant amounts

T: caramel malts, moderate to low not resiny bitterness, there is some spiciness I am not able to name and that comes not from hops - Almdudler anyone?

O: IPA, really? Basically a good beer but if you call it something you expect to get it or you are somewhat disappointed. Spiciness is nice, drinkability good. I would drink it again, spice could get you somehow, though I am not overly excited.

(3.5) A: Rich and dark amber with a generous cream coloured foam head. Decent retention and streaky lacing.

(3.75) S: Pine, toffee, nutty qualities, and hints of dark fruits (cherries & dates). Tends toward the malt side (Belgian IPA side) with a caramel-toffee backbone.

(3.5) T: Similar to aroma with a caramel backbone, dried fruits (dates & figs), pine, and hazelnuts. Interesting as the caramel evokes a sweetness but a very earthy/herbal bitterness takes over. The flavours independently would taste very good, but when brought together I feel this tastes a little off.

(3.75) M: Med-full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Velvety and rich texture.

(3.5) D: A decent malty IPA but likely not something I would revisit.

A: quarter finger head on a slightly hazy copper amber body. scattered lacing.

S: bready hops, some yeast, no hops really, grains, bubble gum.

T: the hops provide mostly some resin and herbal flavors. the finish is very toasty and bready. the initial malts are more on the caramel end. Belgian yeast throughout and some peppercorn.

M: medium body and light to moderate carbonation.

Overall: Not very exciting, pretty plain actually although the flavors transition fairly well.

An off white head on a slightly hazy, amber colored body. An aroma of caramel and toffee with little else. The flavor profile is pretty much more of the same with little in the way of hop character. Medium thick body, average carbonation, and a somewhat sweet finish. Oddly malty for a so called IPA, there is almost no hop character at all even though it seems to have been well cared for.
