Got at the brewery today and that makes it a special occasion. Dusky copper color, big head of large-bubbled ivory foam. Nice but restrained smell of wood shavings and resin, a smokey (in a good way) tea aroma, some bread, Christmas spices. A heaping mouthful of flavors slugging it out for supremacy and struggling to stay in balance. A powerful punch of hop spice and caramel malt, with the raisin-y port thing coming all through, making for a candy-apple treat and bitter contrast. Full and fleshy in the mouth on the first taste but it all slips down nicely and not overly coating. Special, unusual, interesting, satisfying, but a lot to sort through.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of sweet Belgian style malt with light port notes and a somewhat spicy yeast undertone. Taste is also a good mix dominated by a solid sweet Belgian style malt base with some spicy yeast notes with light peppery edge and a light woody and port barrel finish. Full body with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Solid offering for a brewer who rarely disappoint.

Poured in to tulip.
A - Opaque medium amber with an orange glow around the edges and a thin layer of taupe head.
S - Belgian yeast, clove, sweet grapes, oak and a bready malt sweetness.
T - Belgian yeast esters up front with clove and spice notes and a big bready sweetness. The port barrel adds a big grape presence that further adds to the sweetness and lighter toasted oak notes. Some warming alcohol throughout.
M - Medium body with some chew. Light carbonation.

33cl Bottle: given to me by Ian Harrison, a big thank you!
Best before Boxing day 2017: poured into a Westvleteren chalice at home on 4 Sep 2013. I managed to keep most of the sediment in the bottle, but a few bits joined the lovely reddy brown bodied beer. The head was thin and sparse from the start.
Sweet nose of pure sugar, yeast, and Port notes too.
The taste is equally sweet and Port infused. The alcohol, which is barely hidden, adds an extra dimension. I could pontificate about the flavours and depth of character but I'll leave that to better pens than I.
A truly wonderful beer.

Poured into a goblet. 2011 vintage, PBA.
3.0 A: Murky amber brown. Half a finger of frothy beige head. Retention is poor and just a hair sized ring of lacing is left.
4.0 S: While this isn't much to look at, the nose is quite nice. Sugary and fruity would be two good words to describe this. The residues of the candi sugar is potent, while the base gives lots of plum, fig, prunes, dates, tobacco, and raisin. There's also a big vinous grapiness, which can likely be attributed to the port barrel. Peppery spiciness from the yeast. Caramel, a bit of toastiness, and a hint of molasses. Borderline 4.5, very nice.
3.5 T: The taste is good, but it doesn't have the same vibrance found in the nose. You will find all the same flavors, but much less intensity. The fruitiness is especially reduced. Only plum and date comes through with any strength. The port becomes a bigger focus in the taste. Vinous grape, oak, and hints of vanilla. Mild peppery spice. Toastiness is enhanced, but caramel and molasses are almost lost. Basically, it's just a less impressive version of the nose. Booze is well hidden.
4.0 M: Lighter to lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation with a pleasant spritziness to it. No problems here, but a little more creaminess would make the mouthfeel even better.
4.0 D: A bit of a bonus here since the nose is so good. Overall, it's a decent beer and I enjoyed it.

Picked this up at a great little beer store in Arlon, Miorge Mihoublon. Vintage 2011, best before 26-12-2017. Hazy copper-amber pour with two finger off-white head with decent retention and nice lacing. The nose on this is more subtle than the BBA Tsjeeses. Hints of caramel, dark fruits, and booze. The wood is still there, and if you really seek it out, you get a bit of a vinous port aroma as well. The taste is much less complex compared to the BBA version and a bit more earthy. Lots of wood along with hints of black pepper, alcohol, caramel, green apple, and just a touch of sour black cherries. The port is there, but may be more suggestive than actual. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a subtle tart, almost sour, bitter finish. This was a bit disappointing compared to the BBA version, but still a solid winter warmer.

On tap At christmas beer festival Essen
Nice orange-brown color, slightly hazy. Big, dense head with long retention & good lacing.
Aroma’s: Sweet, dried fruit (raisins, apricot), hints of wood, with retronasal vinous notes, wood.
Flavor is medium sweet with notes of wood, not overdone. Not too strong alcohol feel, body is medium.
Finishes somewhat herbal (medium) bitter. Less sweet than expected.
I expected more from this beer !

The 2011 vintage pours dim coppery-brown body gets topped by a finger of beige head that lasts and weaves firm sheets of lace about the glass with each swirl.
Sweet aroma of Apfelstrudel with chopped apples, cinnamon and walnut filling, orange-like
esters, grapes and red wine notes of port, spiciness that might originate from hops or phenols, and a tinge of alcohol. Further sniffing reveals oaky undertones.
Flavor is less complex than the nose implies: red wine, lots of phenol-derived spice and bitterness, apple notes and sweetness counterbalanced by alcohol warmth. I hoped for more port character, though.
Medium body with soft mouthfeel and fine carbonation tends to coat the lips with sticky film.
Better than the Bourbon barrel-aged version but still pales in comparison with the retired oak-aged Tsjeeses Reserva. Bring it back, you boneheads!
(330 ml, BB 12-26-2017, into tulip).

After extended googling and direct contact with Struise, I've determined that this is indeed the port barrel aged version. Served from a ~12ish fl oz brown glass bottle into an Odell pilsner glass in me friend's gaff in low altitude Fort Collins, Colorado.
Served straight from the fridge. Side-poured as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: Pours a two finger beige colour head of fair cream and decent thickness, and good retention for the high ABV. Body colour is a dull dark copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.
Sm: Floral hops, clean malts, and mild spice. An average strength aroma.
T: Floral hops, refined malts with some hints of dark fruit. Nectary. Hints of grape/port notes.
Mf: Sticky. Smooth and wet. Too thick. A bit overcarbonated.
Dr: Drinkable but underwhelming considering the brewery. I wouldn't pursue it or seek it out. Hides its ABV fairly well.
