500ml bottle. 2009.

Bought 2 of these a while back. Had the first a year ago without drama, this bottle geysered violently on opening until less than a third of the bottle remained. After cleaning up, poured a super turbid coca mahogany with an airy tan head that summarily drops without a trace.

Initially all about thick, leathery balsamic and carob notes with dry fortified undertones. Later on, sour cherry and stewed dark plums emerge and moderate diacetyl becomes increasingly apparent. Opens up further with light floral perfume, hints of nail polish remover finish it off. Busy and interesting.

More of the muscular woody, tobacco-y balsamic action. Quite gritty and astringent. Base oud bruin fruitiness is a little overpowered.

Light to medium body with silky and subdued carbonation. Unfortunately the booze latches on to the strong lactic character impeding drinkability.

A few flaws in execution but an intelligent concept with really satisfying complexity. Would like to see this brewed again.

On tap at the Avenue Pub in NOLA.

Brownish-red with light tan head that lingers well in tulip glass.

Smell is tart cherry with hints of wine.

Sweetness comes in first followed by a cherry tartness. Not too tart. Hints of wine present. No bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Prickly.

Overall this is excellent.

Dark brown with red hues and big frothy full staying power tanned head.

Big aromas berries, whiskey, port and and rolled hay.

Cream and red wine and all sorts of wonderment
Not at all sweet and amazingly a beer with no bitterness that I like
dryness hints of malt whiskey

deceptive in its drinkability superb MF low level carbonation that sits perfectly

This is beer heaven

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention but minimal lacing. Aroma consists of tart cherries with loads of oak notes and some vinous notes also noticeable. Taste is also a well-balanced mxi of tart cherries with some notes of oak and a vinous finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very enjoyable Flanders red beer with an extra vinous feel. I am not sure I could taste the Wild Turkey barrel though.

Deep ruby brown color, browner than most Flanders Oud Bruins. The barrel aging imparts a red fruit/grape flavor in the mouth which changed into a serious oaky/whiskey finish. Really a very complex and interesting beer. The taste lingers, and with the slightly elevated alcohol percentage it is going to be more satisfying if you are looking for a oak-aged dark ale than if you are looking for the sweet/sour of another Flemish Red.

Had on tap at Mikkeller Bar in San Francisco. I was drinking this side-by-side with Petrus Pale Ale, which I enjoyed just as much.

A - Dark brassy brown-yellow with less than a finger of off-white head. Small bubbles rising to the top.

S - A kind of copper smell with fruity, sugary aromas. I smelled a little champaign and sour candy.

T - Very tasty. Just the right amount of tart/sour. The sour was offset a bit by its sweetness. I would say almost too sweet, but I actually think it added balance. I could drink this beer all day for the taste.

M - A little thick, a little bubbly, a little smooth over the tongue. Really easy to drink. I don't need to pace myself too much, but I also don't feel the need to down it quickly.

O - I could drink this beer all day. Refreshing beer when it is sunny, and just heavy enough for me to enjoy with dinner. The absolute best part of this beer is the taste, but that's mthe important part, right? I'm a big fan of this, and would certainly drink it again.
