Almost wine like..finishes off with quite the bitter taste. Problem is (or not) that in order to get rid of the bitterness you want to drink more so you can enjoy the sweetness that it starts off with

Bottle from my Belgium trip. Pours deep reddish amber with a big bubbly off white and yellowish head. Nice aroma of fruits here with figs, plums, pears, dates, honey, yeasty esters, light spice, brown sugar, oak md booze. Flavor is a dry rye spice with lots of fruits--same as the nose--and more lingering spicy rye and woodiness. Sweet brown sugar notes, yeasty Belgian QUadrupel influence. Medium plus plus bodied with lowish carbonation, sweet but with great balance from the spicy rye and dryness from the oak. This is a real hit in my book. Yum!

2013 vintage.
Dark amber/ruby pour, small light beige creamy head on top that lasts a while, sticky lace for the rest of the drink.
Complex smell, with caramel, toffee and butterscotch for once, but also banana, apple and some apricot, then some faint bourbon, vanilla, crackers, Belgian sugars, faint nuts, raisin. Lots of stuff.
Taste starts with a nice tasty tripel fruitiness, tons of apple, pear, banana, grapes, apricot, overripe oranges, all drenched in what i guess molten Toffifees taste like (caramel, toffee, hazelnut). Spicy rye alongside nice licorice, clove, black pepper and star anise, plus some barrel-induced vanilla. Bourbon alcohol really enhances the beer, helped by the Belgian sugars it brings a nice dark rum flavour and some nice wood barrel. Not too boozy, but the alcohol does dry up the finish. All that's left is a very mild bitterness, subtle sugars and a nice fruitiness.
Smooth, a bit sticky, low to medium carbonation.
Big complexity, rich (and diverse) in flavours, a great Belgian tripel on steroids.

On tap at 16 tons during their Eugene Beer Week, whiskey barrel event. Kind of surprised to see this beer out this way (maybe Max's or Churchkey, but Eugne?).

Thek beer pours a somewhat hazy, tannish, reddish amber color with good head retention and lacing. The beer looks pretty good, but got even better from there. Honestly, I really didn't get a huge bourbon presence in this beer, instead I got more of a brandy and calvados aroma, along with chocolate, vanilla and light tropical fruit. The flavor profile replicates the nose, but is even more complex, as I get some pear, apple skin flavor as well. The beer is a tad boozy (what a surprise) in this moderately sweet beer, but I think that works well with the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is fairly full, and the beer is otherwise soft and almost creamy on the palate. This is just a fun beer to drink. Alcohol is fairly well integrated into the flavor profile, and drinkability is pretty high. Despite the high abv., in no time at all, my 8 ounce pour was all gone.

A really nice beer from De Struise.

Poured on tap into a tulip glass. Vintage 2013.

A real nice light tan creamy head, almost reddish toffee color matching the body. Body color is a deep rusted brown and red with toffee like colors as well. Slick thin puck on top, and a little milky looking.

Great nose on this. Soft wood like tannins, huge amounts of butterscotch. Nice soft toffee caramel action, some herbal like spice notes, minimal boozy qualities but a little bit of heat. Smells fantastic.

First sip barely even reminds me this is beer. Wine like body, almost sherry creamy quality texture with a real soft palate. Some big creamy notes of butterscotch fill the glass, on a very light and easy drinking palate surprisingly. Huge spicy notes of clove like and dry grain, big bursting powdery nutmeg and brown spiced almost hot finish, not doubt mostly from the rye.

Love this brewery, and this is one of the few barrel aged tripels that really impressed me, if the only one.

Looks like cola with a rim of tiny white bubbles

Smells like whiskey and magic, well wholemeal bread

The whiskey taste flows through with rye crackers with quite a sweet edge

Not heavy on the mouthfeel

unusual stuff
I think I like it, I'm sure I like it.
