After appealing to locals for a trip to Hudson, WI my wife and I made the stop on a dreary Thursday. Parking was tough with all the snow and ice, but managed to get a vacated spot as soon as I turned in. Walked thru the door and immediately knew I was in the right spot. Wandered around a while before asking for help, couldn't understand the layout. Store help was confused at first as well, seems recent restock? Picked up a few lagers to take back tothe hotel and the wife found her favorite Zombie Killer beer. A few were warm, but were quickly cooled in the "chiller".
Coming from the land of "state store" systems, I yearn for a Casanova down the street where "everybody knows your name". Worth the stop if you cross the St. Claire river entering Wisconsin.

A little jaunt here on Thanksgiving day as just about all the MN stores are closed.
Loved the selections, tons of stuff CA natives could only dreamed about. I saw tons of stuff from New Glarus, Ale Asylum, Lucid, August Schell, Summit, Tyranena, Flat Earth, etc. They break 6-packs only on selected items, which was a bit inconvenient for me.
The other plus is that they do growler fills for superb beers. I brought my Bootleggers & Beachwood growlers & filled them up with Toppling Goliath Golden Nugget & CW Coffee Stout with insane reasonable prices without getting absurb interrogations. The service is straightforward & helpful. They will help you find the beers & answer questions without tapping into your life history.
Overall, I had a good experience here.

Visited on a Monday after work.
A – An old crowded liquor store. Can't beat the location – right across the state line from MN and thus an easy opportunity to pick up beers not distributed to MN (e.g. FFF and New Glarus)
Q - No reason to believe otherwise. Almost everything available cold.
S – Nice, friendly, helpful.
S – Very good selection bordering on great. Lots of singles available on imports and bombers. Less so for 12 oz bottles.

Finally made it to this nearby beer mecca. Very much enjoyed the trip. They have a great selection for growler fills as well as bombers, single bottles (mix and match 6 pack) and other packs of 12 ouncers. They will fill any growler (not just their own) and their growler prices are extremely fair. The selection of hard to find beers in MN was really astounding considering it's right across the border. The staff in the liquor store side weren't terribly friendly or knowledgeable. Not that anyone was unfriendly, just looked bored. However, the staff on the "wine bar" side were fabulous. I plan on making frequent trips here.

Cool place with a great selection of beers, wine, and liquor. By far, the best selection of beer of any store in the area. They have 12 beers on tap for growler fills. There is a wine bar next door. Prices are bit high, but the selection justifies the price.

My buddy and I jumped in the car from South Minneapolis and hit up Casanova's and two other places in the Twin Cities metro. I'm glad we decided to head into Wisconsin, because this was one of the best bottle shops I've ever visited.
The building is very cool, clearly repurposed, and presents itself as a historic monument. The interior is cramped and packed full of beer, liquor, and wine. We were greeted very nicely by a Sam Adams rep, whose offer to sample we politely declined. I asked one of the employees if they had any New Glarus Apple Ale in stock, some months out of season, and he went to check for me. A few minutes later he returned and said that they were out, but he still had some left for growler fills. Great! Along with a bottle of Serendipity, Raspberry Tart, and a four pack of Double Trouble, it was a successful trip.
The selection was phenomenal. 3F, FFF, Hoppin' Frog, The Bruery, New Glarus and Central Waters of course. What was most impressive, however, was there growler station, which featured two brews from Toppling Goliath, Alpha King, and a selection of New Glarus.
Things were a bit pricey though. The Double Trouble was $12, and the Drie Fonteinen was close to $30 for the Oude Gueuze. But it really didn't matter, because all of the employees were eager to talk to us about beers they recently enjoyed, making recommendations and discussing our selections with us.
I'll definitely be returning next time I'm in Hudson, or when it's Sunday and I'm in the cities.

Ancient roadside building, set into a hillside with beer caves in the basement, with a bar and growler fills too?? Sign me up.
Big thanks to Howard for braving a severe thunderstorm to get us here right after 9am when they opened (every day apparently). Even though the bar was closed, they ran over and filled a couple growlers of Toppling Goliath Golden Nugget ($9.99 refill, awesome) and were generally super helpful and willing to chat about beer so early in the morning.
The vibe here is super cool if you're into historical buildings, vintage roadside americana and the like. Lots of dark wood with eclectic cool knick-knacks, A giant moosehead, an aquarium with colorful fish and a sunken growler among the rocks, old historical framed photos, and the occasional tin beer sign in the back. Beer shelves are in the back and crammed full. Got a mixed sixer here of a few NG Thumbprint series, and new local American Sky beers from Hudson Brewing Co. They had obscure imports from Birra Del Borgo, Hannsens, Vanberg & DeWulf and others. Craft coolers seemingly go on forever, wrapping along the back wall. Great prices and selection.
Overall a very cool and unique place, I hope to return and check out the Nova next time.

I'm a fan of this place. I've been here many times and I really like it. I don't like the fact that it feels like a medieval dungeon when you walk in but the people who work there, aside from a few, are really nice and try to make your visit as pleasant as possible. They always have something to sample, good WI only section and close proximity to MN make it a excellent place to stop. The prices are reasonable on some things and overpriced on others - it really depends. They have Bell's This Goes to 11 for $20 a sixer which is a massive rip off but I purchased BCBS here for the same price which isn't even in the same league as Bell's anniversary beers. So YMMV depending on time of year and what's in stock. Good place though. Recommended!

Firstly, it's definitely a cool place to check out. Tucked into the side of a mini mountain in Hudson, along with its sister property, makes an interesting sight.
The beer is situated in the back as you walk in. Requisite six to eight coolers. Their shelving space was a touch limited but they fill with the kind of staples you'd expect to see in these parts in New Glarus, Central Waters, Founders, Jolly Pumpkin, etc.
Nothing jumped out at me that was extremely special or rare to make it a special stop but if you're traveling between Wisconsin and Minnesota either way it could be a good place to jump out of the car for 15 minutes.
