Pours a clean copper/ orange-ish color, with a light tan head. In the aroma, sweet butterscotch and a small earthiness. In the taste, sticky-sweet butterscotch and a sweet earthiness. A smooth and medium to light bodied mouthfeel, with a sticky, dry butterscotch in the aftertaste. Quite sticky with butterscotch, but decent earthiness.

Sad to say but just another average beer from Atwater,I was hoping this would be a little better.Poured a bottle and a half into a 1/2 liter stein,a lighter copper/bronze with a thinner but well sustained white head atop.Brown sugar and caramel malts in the nose, mainly on the sweeter side with no crispness our dough to it.Thin feel that doesn't help the thinner sweet flavors any, there is a little dryingness to it in the finish buthere just is no complexity. It's average on par with Lenie's and not as good as Sam Adams, sonot very good.

Notes from fall 2010

Pours a nice clear amber color with two fingers of creamy head tha leave a bit of lacing behind. Smell consists primarily of caramel malt, though a bit of hop aroma is also present. Smell is simple but pretty good. Taste starts with some nice caramel malts and some slight hops bitterness. However, an unpleasant iced tea-like dryness comes in on the finish. Overall has decent drinkability. Definitely not in the upper echelon of Oktoberfests, but an interesting take on the style.

12oz brown long neck bottle with crimped cap.
Poured into a nonic glass,Clear, deep meduim amber color with a 2" off white rocky head leaving some small chunks of spot lacing. Very little carbination looks flat halfway down the glass.

Very fruity aromas, lots of apple/pear with a sweet candied malt nose, grassy with a touch of metallic and slightly vinious.

Fruity tastes also, green apple with some pear. Sweet sugary maltiness, slightly metallic and vinious. Good balance with a clean, tart, dry, lightly bittered finish. Has a German feel to the taste.

Seemed a bit light for an Octoberfest, especially when it comes to the malt, had a bit of a grainy edge, not one of the smoother ones.
Was on the harsh side going down didn't like the sugaryness.
Not a beer i would recommend.

Appearance: chestnut brown with auburn highlights, tan head of decent size, great clarity

Aroma: roastier than most marzen a, with nuttiness, a little coffee hint, and subtle floral hops. Malt is most of aroma

Taste: malty, with hints of chestnuts, coffee, and toasted bread, as well as floral hop finish. Very balanced.

Mouthfeel: crisp and easy drinkability. A wet and full kind of mouthfeel though. More full bodied than most American marzens. Medium carbonation

Overall: A much maltier marzen with more emphasis on the development of its malt character with hints of coffee, chestnuts, and toasted bread. Floral hops on the finish to balance

Not really my style of brew, but that's all my friend had at his place. I was very surprised to how true to style they were. The rich malt flavor was nice curbed by subtle hops. The carbonation was just enough to provide nice lacing as well as cleanse the pallet. Paired well with the burgers and brats. Thumbs up Atwater!

A - A huge four finger khaki head threatens to spill over the edges of my oversized pint glass, and the resulting lace left in it's wake is crusty as hell. The head is pillowy, billowing, fluffy, airy, and it gets pitted and shaped as it slowly recedes to a solid two fingers and stays put. There is lace all over the place, and it looks crusty and crystalized. The brew is a deep, deep bronze-orange and slightly cloudy. This is one helluva good looking beer.

S - Light biscuity caramel malt and a big dose of mineral water / well water metallic notes. Salty and airy, with a note that reminds me of the way whole grain pasta smells when it's cooking.

T - Uhh. This is not good. Rotten apples that have been on the ground under the apple tree for several days in the hot summer sun. Red wine vinegar (O-fest are NOT the style to show astringent vinegar notes like a Flander's red), Italian salad dressing, and pumpkin innard scrapings left over from Jack-O-Lantern carving activities.

M - Medium bodied with a very off-putting foamy carbonation. Finishes sour and off-tasting. Blech.

D - Like a Hollywood bimbo, this beautiful brew is pretty on the outside, but foul on the inside.

Tried the Atwater Marzen Bloktoberfest at Boulevard's in J'Town, PA. The beer poured a rich amber with good carbonation that provided a decent head that laced somewhat. The smell included rye notes mixed in with sweet malt. The taste was primarily powered by barley and malt. Yikes, I do not like this beer. The taste includes strong rye that turned to like a sour mash almost. Lots of barely and malt. The mouthfeel was hurt by the pour taste. Best part about this beer was the end. Overall it up to you whether or not to try it...never hurts to tried a beer at least once.

A- Great orange color. Good carb. Nice head.

S- This is going to be bad. Movie popcorn smell up front. Sweet malty in the back

T- Yep the unmistakable taste of Diacetyl. There is a soap flavor also that does not go well with my popcorn.

M- the mouth feel is fine, cant get past the buttery soap.

D- It was hard to finish the bottle.

Don't let this review make you steer away from Atwater. They make good beer. This may be the only batch with this off flavor. I an going to give the Blocktoberfest another change next time I see a single.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with a clipped off date of March 2015. Sampled on August 9, 2014.

It is nice to look at that is for sure. Deep reddish amber pour with a big off-white head and brilliant clarity.

The aroma is more subtle than anything but it does bring out some roasted malts, sweetness, nuttiness, but little to no hop bite.

The body is medium.

The taste tends to be on the sweet and nutty side. It reminds more of a brown ale rather than an Oktoberfest. But I guess the two can be interchangeable.

12oz poured into a pint glass.

Pours a clear medium amber with a thick off white head made up of lots of large bubbles with good retention. Earthy aromas, grains, noble hops, clean malt, a little musky. Chocolate malt flavor up front with some caramel and a middle tasting like musky, corn husk. Medium high carbonaion with a medium body, coats the mouth, easy drinking.

On draft at the Waterfront, Brooklyn.

Poured a medium amber hue with a short lived one finger loosely assembled head. There was decent retention and little lacing.

The smell featured a sweet caramel with a secondary breadiness.

The taste consisted of an earthy caramel and a rather vibrant noble spice. Some breadiness as well.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a good mid level American version.
