Poured into my Chimay glass.

Appeared a very dark brown color, with some reddish tints when held in the light. Minimal head.

Smelled of coffee beans and artificial vanilla extract. Some buttery notes.

Tasted almost solely the vanilla, was barely able to detect any coffee tastes. Vanilla mostly appeared in the finish. Very light tasting overall.

Mouthfeel was watery - nothing notable. Very thin.

Overall this is definetely a drinkable porter with a vanilla presence, but it lacks complexity. Not impressed and probably won't drink again.

A: Nice dark amber color. Minimal signs of carbonation, and no head.

S: Toast, caramel, apples, vanilla, espresso.

T: Vanilla, coffee, chocolate, roasted finish. There is a lot of flavor upfront but it vanishes fast.

M: Lightly carbonated. Thin. Easy to put down.

Overall: I have had this beer on tap at a festival and remember it being really good. However, when having it just now in a bottle it doesn't seem as good as I recall. It might just be that's it's another batch, or maybe it was just sitting out for awhile.

Spilt a bottle after my friend's Michigan trip :

Poured into flute (odd, but what we had) with a finger head on pour, dissipating to a rim of carbonation against a clear black body. looks almost of cola (and the mouth feel is thin and water with good carbonation which also reminds of soda). Smell is roasty sugars (vanilla) and definite chocolate character. Taste follows with mild bitterness and complimenting vanilla and chocolates. Still a bit light bodied for me to want all the time but the carbonation makes it creamy. The friend debated on a 6 pack, and given her tastes i think it would have been a great purchase. Watery for the ABV, i wouldn't buy the 6 pack but i would gladly drink this again, all i could think for the end of the glass was ice cream float...

Bottle shared by Jason, a man of impeccable taste in microbrews. Served in a tulip and dated November 2011.

A - Quick-dissolving light tan foam settles to a thin ring of bubbles. Dark brown body that is a few shades lighter at the edges of the glass. A few spots of lace are left as the beer is consumed.

S - A mix of coffee and vanilla. A touch reminiscent of extract, but surprisingly pleasant. There's some earthy roasted grains in the background.

S - Taste is similar, but dominated by the vanilla extract flavor. Pretty generic in character, but delivers on the flavors promised by the name and far from offensive.

M - Medium-light body, smooth texture, a touch of dry roastiness in the finish, and fairly low carbonation. No obvious alcohol warmth of flavor.

D - A very middling but otherwise inoffensive porter. Not a drain pour like many of the gems we opened that night, and might be appealing to craft beer n00bs for it's familiar flavors and lack of subtly.

A: Dark, dark brown – rubied mahogany when backlit. Small light tan head that falls fast & leaves no lace.

S: Tons of vanilla, lots of sweetness, a bit of chocolate, faint hint of coffee. Very candy like and rather cloying. Smells distinctly like cheap candy shell coated chocolate esters eggs. Plenty aromatic, but lacking a beer smell and not inviting.

T: More thin in some ways than the nose implied. Almost watery vanilla with okay but stretched sweetness. Very minimal java. Porter base is quite lacking too. Hints of chocolate & roast. Overall, like a think & weak brown porter with some extract dumped in. It manages to not be cloying, but it seem slapped together and lacks a very good “beer” component.

M: Just under medium body with matched carbonation. A light mouthfeel relative to aroma or taste, and light for style. Manages to avoid seeming watery, but not by a huge margin. Semi-sweet with a neutral finish.

D: a novelty and desert beer. And not all that good either. Lacking much beer character. Not enough malty heft to pull off the vanilla, java, porter idea. Not terrible, but a bit less than alright.

This is a ruby black beer with no foam. It has a creamy sweet vanilla aroma, like an ice cream float. Thin bodied and fizzy, with a flat vanilla flavor followed by a harsh finish. Where’s the java? I’ll give it that it’s sweet but not my thing. Pass.
