12 oz.

Pours jet black, eggshell lacing for a head.

Smells of light brown sugar and biscuit malts with a hint of smokey oak.

Flavor of brown sugar and smoked oak mixed with tart cherry and grape.

Medium to full body with tingly carbonation on the tongue.

This is an okay stout with a very unique flavor that doesn't quite work. The cherry is either too pronounced or not pronounced enough depending on what you might be hoping for. It's just enough cherry to distract from the stout but not enough to carry the stout. In the end, everything else about the stout is pretty good, but the flavor makes it something I wouldn't go back to.

This beer isn't the darkest, heaviest or thickest out there, but they can't all be. It is dark, though some ruby and brown highlights make it out. The head is compact, tan in color, not quite reaching half a finger but not dropping lower either. Lacing is actually pretty good overall.
The cherry is in the smell, though it offers predominantly tartness against the roast. There's not a huge malt (in fact it could use more), but there's enough roast to play with and not go to harsh. Overall, the cherry should be stronger, but it's pretty standard stuff.
This beer needs a stronger backbone, but the malts do play their role. The cherry kicks in off the tip of the tongue and it stays consistent. There's toast and a bit of bittersweet cocoa for the tartness to play with.
Maybe it's a tad to bright and crisp for a stout, but it isn't overly biting or heavily carbonated. It could use a little more smoothness, but it does have some.
