Bottle, notched M (March) 12, poured into a Weiss glass.

A- A normal pour created a 1-finger, white head with a light, pinkish hue. A yeast swirl added a nice cloudiness to the gold body. The body is actually pretty complex. It was nearly clear at the bottom edges, golden in the middle, and nearly brown where the suspended yeast floated near the head. Foam sustained at 1/2 finger and left nice sticky rings on the glass.

S- Light and crisp. Fresh cherries. Both sweet and tart components. It almost brings me back to memories of Capri Sun "juice" pouches, however more natural. Yeasty goodness. Hints of grainy, cracker-like malts (Ritz perhaps). Warmth brings out more cracker-like malt qualities.

T- Definite cherry flavor. Sweet up front with a tart finish. More Capri Sun qualities (though I haven't had one in years). Dry finish. Malts are secondary and Ritz cracker-like. Warmth brings out more malt.

M- maybe a bit thin at first. Quite dry. Moderate carbonation. Chewy enough to convince me it's a wheat beer.

O- Refreshing spring/Summer beer. Perfect fit for the post-lawn mowing, baseball watching I'm currently doing. More fruit than wheat (solid fruit beer at that). I appreciate the love shown to the native MI cherries. Delicate brew. Got the "thumbs up" from my wife. Would buy again.

Atwater Brewery "Traverse City Cherry Wheat"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, notched "BOTTLED ON: May 2015"

Delicately cherry-ish. You don't get it so much in the nose, but it's clear in the flavor. I appreciate that it's not overdone like so many beers theses days. I would guess that if you didn't know it was a cherry beer you might find it fruity, and perhaps pick up the cherry, but not immediately come to the conclusion that it's a cherry beer. A moderate bitterness balances it, and it finishes dry with a residual note of cherry. Oddly for a fruit beer, some leafy, grassy, and herbal hops are present as well. Pleasant and quite charming!

On the lower end of carbonation. Pours a crystal clear copper color. The head quickly diminishes and leaves some decent lacing for a bit (but seems to stop prematurely).

Smells of tart cherries and other various fruits. There is a slight hint of malt.

I was instantly greeted with sour cherry flavors (as expected). There seems to be no apparent hop bitterness or flavors to speak of. After the tartness subsides, some caramel notes are apparent. Flavors seem to fade with no real aftertaste. This beer finishes quite dry. Very similar to a cherry wine (once again, as expected).

Has a medium mouthfeel. Only slight sensation of bubbles. This one feels quite a bit on the dry side.

I didn't know what to expect with this cherry wheat as I have only had 1 cherry wheat in the past (Samuel Adams) and did not care for it. This one, I felt, was more drinkable than the S.A., but still not my favorite style of beer. Great for the style of beer but probably will not try again... just my personal preference.

Pours a hazy copper color with a white head that dissipates rather quickly, leaving no lacing on the glass. The aroma, especially for being a "cherry wheat" beer, is very hard to pick up on. Some cherries, wheat, sweet malt, and a touch of floral hops come out, but you have to REALLY sit there and concentrate and smell. It's far too weak. The taste isn't much better. Tart cherries up front, much like cherry "juice" rather than cherry "beer" - very soft and bland. The wheat flavor is strong, almost overpowering much of the cherry taste. The beer left a weird, chalky feeling in my mouth afterwards. Medium body, medium carbonation.

Overall, a mediocre beer at best. Bland and boring, and the aromas/flavors that ARE there, aren't very good. Steer clear of this one.

This is a pretty standard cherry wheat. Nice cherry flavor with some tartness. Serviceable

Basic beer, drinkable. Mild cherry aroma and understated in taste. Built up mouthfeel, as if I am rolling over a gumball. Nothing special, though cherry makes it half interesting. Fast dissipitating head.Bottle from Steve in Warren.A good idea that needs better execution.
