Nice store right on the edge of the very cool downtown Asheville area. Not the biggest place, but very clean and organized with a very large selection of beers. I'd say the best part was their Belgian selection. Huge wall full of imports, primarily Belgians. So many that I couldnt make up my mind what to grab. Also a good selection of the local NC beers and various other American micros. Very nice selection of glassware up front, both local stuff and your bigger name galsses like Orval goblets and Duvel tulips. Very friendly and helpful employees. Overall a great place. Definitely a good place to go if you are ever in western NC.
Edit: Upped the quality to a five. Jason and Julie took the time to read my review and send me a beermail about the DR Wee-Heavy. My bottle just had an errant punch on the date and is actually only a month or two old. Great service and follow-up. Always nice when owners take the time to read customers thoughts.

I've been going to Bruisin' Ales a few times a year since they opened. For a while they were the biggest fish in town. The great selection of usually high quality beers was enough for me to overlook the short comings. A couple years ago a fearsome competitor opened up down the road and now Bruisin' Ales is playin' second fiddle. You'll pay a bit more at Bruisin' Ales. Fresh beers do come in and out of there, but the core inventory seems to sit there a while... I'm relatively OK with these things-- you just have to shop with a sharp eye. However, my interactions with the personnel, especially one of the owners, have been most disappointing. Perhaps I'm expecting too much... This should be the kind of place where the staff are open to talking beer. Actually, it IS the place to talk beer, IF you work there. If you're not an employee, you're just there to buy what they're sellin'. To be fair, most of the guys will put on a good show once they disengage from their "private" chatter. I've received nothing but thinly-veiled snobbery from the highest level of management though. Underestimating your customer is a mortal sin in the business world. Go here to find the few things you can't get elsewhere. Leave quickly and then go make some friends at the "other place" down the road.

Bruisin Ales is a must stop for any beer lover going to Beer City, USA. Their selection and knowledge of everything they have it second to none and they are eager to help you find what you like. I come through here for business often and it is a must stop whenever I am passing through. I have taken numerous friends there and would never hesitate to recommend it as a place to stock up on great beers I can't find in TN.
