Sampled on May 25, 2009, on -tap in a 12 oz pint glass:

Having just returned from a trip in which I spent some time in Ireland, drinking Irish Dry Stouts, I was kind of excited to try this one and must say that I was disappointed. I would think that it may be better served labeled as an American Stout, as none of the Irish Dry Stouts that I tried in Ireland tasted anything even remotely close to this.

The beer served up a nice black, opaque body with a nice tan colored head that was fairly thick and had some retention. I really expected the head to be retained a lot longer and I expected it to be thicker.

The aroma is really were it started to lose me, I got the roasted malt, which is a staple, but the heaviness of the coffee and whiskey made me believe that the beer is classified wrong. Don't get me wrong, the aroma was very good and well done, but not for an Irish Dry.

The taste was pretty much the same as the aroma and good.

The beer had a nice medium body to it, a good level of carbonation, creamy and pretty smooth.

Drinkability was also good, especially given the coffee and whiskey. Sometimes with these types of beers those flavors are really over-the-top and it is hard to stomach more than one. This is a really well done stout and a must try for those that like the style.

On tap at the brewpub.

Opaque, near black body with a good head.

Feel: medium carbonation.

Aroma excellent and rather complex for style. hint of coffee, chocolate, burnt toast, roasted grains.

Taste: good balance. Darker roast than average for style, with some char that seems to befit this cold wintry day.

O A roastier version of style.

A: single finger dark tan head on a jet black body. Decent lacing.

S: nice coffee with roast malt aroma.

T: follows the nose nicely with roasted malt and coffee without the bitter notes. Chocolate and vanilla in the finish.

M: medium body and light carbonation.

Overall: nicely complex. One of the better beers here.

A variant of the Dark Star Stout. "This is the Dark Star Stout aged on Espresso, Jameson Irish Whisky soaked oak chips and with almost 10 lbs of cherries added to the cask. Your mind will leave your body after a few of these. Part of the Serenade Series, the yeast was serenaded with the immense tune Dark Star while the beer was brewed, fermented and conditioned."

Appearance: Black body with a small, light tan-colored head.

Smell: Alright, you start off with a heavily roasted malt character and let's go down the list. Espresso. Check! Whiskey and Oak. Check, though they are pretty light. Cherries. Check! Light, too, but a slight cherry juice scent awakens a bit more as it warms.

Taste: Dry, roasty maltiness with a shot of cold espresso. Dark caramel with just a touch of sweetness. Dash of cherry juice. The oak and whiskey remain considerably light, flavorwise. Hints of chocolate before the dry finish yielding a bit more oak and cherry.

Mouthfeel: Soft, medium-bodied. Mild carbonation.

Drinkability: Not bad at all. Some of these beers with copious amounts of additional flavorings end up either aspiring for greatness or aspiring for having way too much shit in it. This beer fell right in the middle, with the extra components blending in well without ever being overwhelming out-of-place or leading one to shout "gack!"

Color is a rich deep chocolaty brown with a very thick head. Aroma is decidedly stouty with a hint of coffee. Flavor is very dark, with burnt hints and undertones of chocolate and coffee. This is a very tasty stout that has a deep flavor but is not heavy or overwhelming. Recommended to all stout and porter fanatics.
