Pours extremely dark murky mahogany, almost black actually, with almost no carbonation visible at all. A few stray bubbles that recede immediately to nothing.
The aroma is big and complex with whiskey and vanilla up front but then comes raisins, plums, molasses, leather and caramel. Little bit of wood coming through.
The taste is even better and one of the better Belgians I've tasted. Initial wave is vanilla, oak and leather. But immediately following that is a much sweeter chocolate and dark fruit character. The sweetness then subsides to a dry, warming finish with whiskey and oak. Sublime taste.
The mouthfeel, as with The Question, keeps this from being a world class brew. It's just under carbonated, pure and simple. It's not completely flat, but close and is enough to knock this down a notch.
This beer has the potential to bee of the best beers I've ever had. The aroma and flavor are sublime but the carbonation detracts from the beer. I'm looking forward to trying this with proper carbonation and we'd be talking about an unbelievable beer.

Bottle acquired in trade.
Poured a dark black color with brown edges and an a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, wood, whisky, and vanilla. Tastes of vanilla, bourbon, wood, dark fruits, and chocolate. I liked the way the Barrel Aging was done on this. The more I drank, the more I liked it and the more I wanted!

Amazing beer from Crawford Moran. Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels for 5 weeks, then cellared for another 50 weeks in the bottle. The server consulted someone in the back and told me that the ABV was around 13%. 750ml bottle, served in a snifter. $25. Worth every penny.
Pours a deep garnet red, nearly black, with no visible carbonation, just a couple of random bubbles.
Aroma is of port-like grapes, alcohol, smoky malt, a bit of chocolate.
Taste is huge: raisin, roasted, malt, black grape, dark rum, clove, anise, and coffee, all swirl around in there, backed by the oaky vanilla and whiskey notes. Similar to Dogfish Head WWS from the one taste I had of that. Outstanding. I took tiny little sips to savor each flavor.
Mouthfeel is luscious, vinous, and lively, despite the lack of carbonation. Very smooth despite the high alcohol. Not at all hot.
Overall, port-like and fruity on the initial taste, followed by woody, malty elements, and finishing with herbal hops, licorice, and coffee. The 3 main elements meld perfectly to demonstrate just what can be done with beer.

Appears a dark brown with crimson highlights when helt up to the light.
Smell is of light coconut, dark fruit, vanilla, mild roast, and a touch of booziness that is welcome.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with standout caramel, oak, vanilla, bourbon, and coconut.
Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, chewy, lightly carbonated, sweet fruit up front with a caramel, and milk chocolate blast that hangs on until the finish.

One of the best from the Atlanta Ale meeting. Enjoyed with Crawford the brewer ("Dogwood"). Chocolate and bourbon nose, a very dark Belgian.50% Goulding from the hops. Little carbonation, Saaz used. Deep bourbon chocolate colour. Medium mouthfeel. Was enjoyed as a sipper.I got another bottle to take home.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black with a small, wispy off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, almost dessertlike aroma. Dark caramel and an intensely chocolatey character blends very well with the whiskey notes of vanilla, wood, and brown sugar. Hint of dark fruits and roastiness. Thankfully, the oak and whiskey components don't dominate but instead compliment and further enhance the other parts of the aroma.
Taste: Sweet dark chocolate blended with dark caramel and notes of vanilla and spicy anise. Gentle fruity esters. The wood and whiskey qualities, though rich and flavorful, remain well-balanced. Faint roastiness near the end. Lusciously sweet finish with a hint alcohol heat on the tailend.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Mild carbonation.
Drinkability: A very well-crafted beer that exhibits a great display of flavor and depth.
