A wonderful weekend in Atlanta led me to spend two days within waling distance of this fine pub. Getting to try everything they had was an adventure, but was easily accomplished. Consumed on 07/24/09 and 07/25/09. I get to try the cask!
Appearance - Poured out near perfect. Deep amber tones with some really nice color to it. Huge head of white bubbly foam just jumps up and coats the entire inside of the glass, really very well done and I have to admit, very, very impressive.
Smell - Nice light hop notes, hints of pine and deep buttery malt tones. Very even and well balanced. Even as it was near room temperature all angles of the profile could be easily picked up here.
Taste - Smooth, really smooth. Biscuit like flavor leads off, rich, bready with hints of light caramel poking around the edges a bit. This fades, albeit slowly into a smooth piney flavor, quick hitting and delicate with a nice bitter touch on the tongue that hit the spot just about right. Nice fade on the last sip left me a little dry.
Feel - Nice, medium body and not overdone on the carbonation by any means at all. Nice, tight and evenly coating.
Drinkability - Super smooth and really just a joy to put down. I could have drunk this one all night long, it really was just that easy.
Overall - As solid as could be. Just what I would have wanted from a nice cask, American ESB. I would love to have this one any day and would go back for it time and again. Really very well done.
