The is a great little market right off of I-5 in Northern California.

Is it's easy to get to, they have good burritos and sandwiches, but I often stop for just the beer.

The owner goes out of his way to get a decent selection of craft beers for his little store. They are all properly refrigerated, and more prominently displayed than the BMC stuff is! They also have their own beer "Ammiratis Castle Crags Ale", made by Butte Creek. And it alone is worth a stop... pretty good stuff.

On my most recent visit I was able to get Castle Crags and a couple of Alaskan Smoked Porters. I asked the lady working the register about the Porter, because it not easy to find in Redding, and she said a lot of their local customers like the Porter for marinating trout or streak in. (sounds good) So the owner tries hard to keep it in stock.

The only drawback is the beers are a bit pricey. But being in Castella, I am sure it is a bit more expensive to get some of these beers there.

While not technically on the Pacific Crest Trail, Ammiratis is on an alternate route that allows hikers access to the post office next door for maildrops and a chance for all the wonder a gas station offers hot, tired, hungry, and thirsty hikers. Located right off of I-5, Ammiratis received a decent amount of highway traffic, most of whom were surprised at the selection of beer available.

My fellow hikers and I cruised by in late morning, and knowing that there would be a fine selection of beers, I came thirsty. I picked up two burritos (excellent, and reasonably priced) and a Victory barleywine. The cashier directed us to an outdoor picnic table area, although we were content to sit in the shade near the bathrooms outside of the building, contemplate nearby Mt. Shasta and Castle Crags, and watch the world go by. I would have sampled more of their many beer offerings, but we recieved some trail magic and a weekend camper offered us the leftovers of his cooler. At this point my memory is blurry as to their offerings, but they did have about 40-50 different microbrews in stock. If I ever have the chance to be in that area again I will be sure to stop in to revisit their excellent selection of beer.
