Best by 02.19.09:

Pours golden yellow - clear on first pour, hazed on second. A fluffy white head leaves some lacing.

The smell is of wheat dough with lemon and a hint of grapefruit. Mellow, crisp.

The taste is of tangy wheat, with sweet grain, a bit towards nutty. It has a lemon and grapefruit touch. From what I understand, Cascade hops are used here - that would explain the citrus quite well. I wouldn't say it's hoppy, but it is for the style. There is a definate "English" taste to it, though it has an American hop taste mixed in. It has a refreshingly dry finish.

It has a creamy, light (though not thin) body.

Very easy to drink and refreshing. An interesting "American" wheat - while retaining a definate "British" character. I paired the second half with fish and chips, as suggested, and the lemony edge and overall lightness made it a very nice pairing.

A: Poured a cloudy, pale gold with a well retaining fluffy white head that left a nice sticky lacing behind. Visible carbonation was medium.

S: a nice hoppy aroma of sour citrus, fresh wheat and light oranges.

T: The initial flavor was fresh citrus, wheaty, and yeasty. Crisp, citrus and a nice summertime wheat body makes this a enjoyable and easy to drink in multiples.

M: Nice mouthful that was light, with a smooth texture.

D: Easy drinking wheat, lacks complexity but a solid quaffer thirst quenching wheat beer none the less with a solid flavor.

Single, 1 Pint, .9 fl oz bottle just purchased from Super Saver Liquors in Somerville...
An English wheat beer? Definitely intersted in trying this despite the modest 4% ABV...
Appearance: A hefty pour yielded a slightly hazy, cloudy, dark-golden hue with a massive foamy head...
Smell: More lemons in the nose than anything with only slight hints of wheat... Not too enticing...
Despite the low ABV, the taste was certainly there... Easily drinkable... Hints of ripe fruits, lemons, citrus, slight grapefruit...
Light-bodied moutfeel... Not too much going on in this department...
Easily drinkable, though not too heavy on the flavor...
Interesting sample...

16.9 oz bottle pours a slightly hazed yellow golden body with a skimpy white head. Some minor lacing sticks to the glass. Subdued aroma has some lemon candy and toasted wheat cracker. Light medium body has average carbonation. Taste is unremarkable but nicely balanced between a lemony citrus bitterness and toasted wheat maltiness. Understated, but clean and refreshing. Good rendition of a pedestrian style.

On cask at the Bridge House, Belfast

Pours with a rich lemony yellow body. Creamy fairly dense white head forms, sticks around till the end. Some lacing

Smell, fresh lemons and other citrus. Some tea like tannins, little touch of faint crisp malt. Freshly cut grass

Taste, juicy fruit and fresh lemon and lime. Some crisp hop bitterness and a touch of wheat on the finish

A pretty tasty and sessionable summer wheat, this was called Goldblade when I had it but I'm fairly sure its the same wheat beer, both are 4.0%abv

16.9oz bottle

Pours a slightly hazed golden straw color with a thin, creamy white head that maintains. Rather thick lacing on the glass.

Aroma is mildly malty with a distinct lemony smell - which seems to be caused by the blend of the yeast and hop aromas. There is a mild tea smell in the background.

Taste is herbal hops with an overtone of tea upfront. Slight lemony hints show up here and there, but not nearly as pronounced as in the smell. Slight bitter bite midway that finally leads to a bit of malt before it finishes with a lingering hop tea taste.

Medium-light body, creamy texture.

Not much of a wheat beer, and probably the first "American Pale Wheat" I have had that was brewed outside of the states. It has a bit more character overall than most of the domestic attempts, but that character falls short of making this beer anything more than mediocre. Easy enough to drink, but I'm ready for something more interesting by the end of the bottle.

Poured a clear straw hue with a three finger foamy white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a light bitter lemon with hints of green apple.
No yeast or clove or banana elements.

The taste was clean with a light crisp finish. Clean wheat malts throughout.

The mouthfeel was light and highly carbonated.

Overall an easy drinking wheat ale. However, a wheat beer by name only.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with a fluffy head that shows decent retention but leaves negligible lacing

Smell: Moderate aroma of banana wheat esters

Taste: Starts out with a tangy cracker flavor; after the swallow a citrusy bitterness sinks in, with lemon and pineapple elements

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Not bad; I regret that this bottle was well past the "best by" date (a big hiss for Wells Discount Liquors in Baltimore) as this might be much better if it were fresh

Poured to a hazy golden-yellow, with thin white head that stuck around until about mid-glass, with okay lacing. Hoppy aroma of citrus, mostly lemon. Citrus and wheat are evident in the flavor, although not real dominant. Light body and okay finish, but I’ve had wheat beers I enjoyed a lot more. Nothing really struck me as special with this beer.

Best before 05 31 05. This baby's past due, but I look forward to the tasting.

Served in a hefeweizen glass at just over fridge temperature.

Appearance- Pours a darker than average delightfully rich gold from the bottle, creating a big soapy head that lingers forever. As I elect to swirl in all sediment, smell brown chunks fall inside... as opposed to the fine powdery sediment from a German wheat beer.

Smell- The nose certainly gives away the secret that this is an English beer... I struggle to pull aromas of banana and clove, but rather get the hard, mineraly water character and hops upfront. Clean, wheaty notes manifest themselves as the beer comes to temperature. Finally, a citric, lemony aroma floats in the glass.

Taste- Rather on the blander side for a hefeweizen, the wheat, malt, and hops are balanced effortlessly on the palate... I only wish there was more to it than this. Clean, most definitely... but not refreshing in the way I like my wheat beers. There is a lemony edge to the finish and aftertaste that feels good on a warm day, and would compliment light seafood without a doubt.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- Nice and smooth in the mouth, with a fantastic light efferfescence that almost lasts for the entire duration. Easy drinking, just not what I would consider a great expression of this great style of beer.

Three fingers of fluffy white head sit on top of this cloudy, light honey colored beer. The nose has faint hop aromas. Lacing is moderate. This is unusually bitter for a wheat beer. The bitter start gives over to tangyness and then eases in to a nice citrusy sweetness. This is a very good beer but I would hardly call it the chapion of wheat beers once, much less twice. The bitterness is a little much for the style and abundant carbonation makes for a rather stingy caombination, like most of this brewery's beers, I bet its wonderful with food.

A re-review of this beer closer to its expiry date (5 Jan. 06)

A: this time I choose to drink it "kristalklaar"... in a 300ml weissbier glass it pours a slightly dark-golden colour, with an effervescent white beer head building up non-stoppingly, so tight and frothy the head simply refuses to go away; exceptional for a British bottle-conditioned beer (or my choice of glassware this time might greatly help with the head retention??). Carbonation is fierce at first but gradually softens and remains consistently lively, when combined with the colour the whole thing looks more like a bottled lager!! Next to perfect, for a bottle-conditioned ale.
S: refreshing nose of malted wheat makes a big entrance upfront, but gearing towards the sweeter edge... delicious but subtle fruity aroma (citrusy and lightly orange-candyish) underlines the grainy note well, while the spicy touch (combination of mild banana and faint note of clove) is kept to the minimum.
T: the palate is akin to a British summer/golden ale replaced with a wheatish theme--the softly grainy palate is quickly followed by a refreshing touch of spice (faintly clove), lemon-zest, a light chewy breadiness and more water-biscuit like sourness developing in the mouth, while the lingering wheatish flavour turns increasingly dry towards the finish along with a crisp and tangy kick, arousing more and more thirst for sure.
M: very lively and creamy texture thanks to a consistent fizzy body, while the finishing mouthfeel is clean but simple, not like a hefe-weizen with more grainy and richer mouthfeel in the back.
D: comparing with my last review of this beer, I'd say without the intervention of yeast sediments this beer is even more charming, quite the opposite to my experience of German hefe-weizen~~ Very enjoyable and different.

Pours a light cloudy golden ale with a strong white head.

Smell is fruity in the way English pale ales are not like a German Hefe Weizen. Slightly spicy and lemony in scent.

Taste is dry and a little tart in the beginning. Mild flavored wheat malt and powdery yeast flavors and a notable bitterness in the finish. Seems to me to be under flavored.

Mouthfeel is good.

Drinkability is good but not great. This tastes basically like an American wheat beer that is mild mannered and thirst quenching but by no means in the same class as a real complex German Hefe Weizen. Easy to drink but I can't see ever buying another bottle of this when I can get the real German stuff for 1/2 the cost.

Appearance – This one is a murky orange in color with lots of carbonation and a huge head.

Smell – This one actually has a touch of yeasty wheat with some good orange notes and a bit of lemon rind.

Taste – The wheat flavors form the trunk of this flavor profile. The orange and lemon from the nose are here at the taste but are a little more reserved. There’s also a tinge of biscuity malt of some kind and maybe even a bit of grassy hops.

Mouthfeel – This light to medium-bodied Hefe Weizen is heavily carbonated but lacks that fluffy mouthfeel of a traditional effort at the style.

Drinkability – This really wasn’t that bad. I don’t know that it’s a Hefe Weizen, but maybe more like an English-style Pale Wheat Ale or something like that.

Pours a golden yellow color. Large head which seems to never die down until first sip is taken. Very light odor lemon pepper with a hint of fruit. During the first sip the fruit becomes most apparent in a non-traditional way. Usually a beer like this would have a pungent lemon or wheat taste to it, but both of them are deliciously understated. Very pleasant after taste as well...the slight lemon lingers for a bit with a certain tingly-ness. Very good summer brew.

Pours a hazy, pale orange color with a nice, firm white head. Citrus, lemony, peppery aroma. The aroma’s not as intense as I’d like, but it has a nice grassy quality. The beer is sort of dry and spritzy, with the citrus quality following through. Again, it’s not very intense. This is a quiet, unassuming beer, and I think it suffers because of that. The finish has a distinct hoppiness. This one is more or less an average, uninspiring wheat beer.

50 cl bottle dated best before 5/31/05. Pours a hazy golden color with a white head. Lots of carbonation. Malted wheat aroma, a hint of lemon and a spicy hop character. Very spritzy on the palate, it works well to accompany the moderately thin body. A very refreshing wheat beer devoid of banana esters and clove phenols. The higher hopping level is a welcomed change of pace, too. A very nice wheat beer done English-style. I think it's a bit better without the sediment, it brings out the subtle hop character nicely.
