Tasted by half-pint at a local Wetherspoon pub, The Capitol, at Forest Hill, SE London. This seems to be yet another contract-brew made by Het Anker for the JDW chain, this time as a guest ale for December 2006. Served by a handpump w/o a sparkler.

A: pale orangey straw hue, with a very faint off-white beer head, great clarity, and low carbonation--looking more like a Blond Bitter than anything Belgian~~
S: sweet (Belgian) candyish pale malts with pronounced fragrant & spicy yeastiness, featuring coriander seeds and a mixed touch of clove+cinnamon, added with citric sweetness in the background. Pleasant, not complex and slightly flat-textured.
T: ginger-roots, coriander seeds on top of mild peachy+citric fruitiness and a firm body of Saaz hops, while the aroma of pale malts and straw-ish hoppyness lingers well at the back of the palate. A touch of sour-sweet citrus-peels reveals itself before the palate hits the soothingly bitter and dryish finish, which is reminiscent more of Czech pils than of anything else~~
M&D: (a bit too) mild in carbonation, light-bodied, but the finish falls a bit flat and thin. Just as the name suggests, the mixed spicy kick gives the ale a refreshing edge and makes it more quaffable than without the spices. But the texture vis-a-vis the sweet flavour profile is not ideal, that perhaps the keg version could remedy with a bit more lively and cooler fizziness to balance off the overall sweetness... an interesting beer to be served on cask, though.

Pint served at local wetherspoons, did not realise this was Gouden Carolous until doing some research, did not say this on pump clip.

A: Blonde with a 2 finger solid head, i thought this was a pale at this time, and thought head retention was fantastic lol.

S: Very spicey indeed! I cant put my finger on whether its ginger, cinnamon or nutmeg, nevertheless, very xmassy, however overpowers any hop or malt profile by some margin

T: Amidst the spice character, hops are apparent in the finish, some malty bready qualities there as well while on the tongue, an odd balance indeed, but very pleasant

M: Low carbonation, with a light body, not watery, but its hard to tell when all i can sense is spice spice spice

D; I only had one pint and that was enough, i couldnt take this sweetness anymore, not a sessioner at all, but perhaps a nice 300ml seving in a duvel glass, and i would love this as a christmas toaster. Will revisit when the season meets us again.
