Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Ommegang Three Philosophers mini goblet. 2011 vintage.
A - Clear dark ruby red. Light tan head leaves good lacing.
S - Sweet dark brown sugar, figs, dates.
T - Continues with a really nice dark brown sugar taste. Really dark burnt sugar like on a Creme Brulee. Then the dark, sticky fruits come into play. Although sweet, ends in an acidic port wine note, then dries out not to be too overwhelming.
M - Medium carbonation. Medium thick mouthfeel. The thickness comes from that sticky date and fig taste.
D - A lot going on. So drinkablility is relatively low. Although this beer is extremely smooth for 11% ABV. I get no booze out of it at all.
Excellent beer. Everything you want from a Dark Belgian Strong. Nice sweet burnt sugar flavor with a few tricks thrown in to keep it interesting.
