A - deep, dark red, gently poured (to fit the entire 750ml bottle into my 750ml snifter... you really need one of these if you don't already have one), dense tan head, tons of fine carbonation bubbles racing upwards. Leaves a big solid sheet of lace down the glass.
S - plump juicy raisins soaked in smooth alcohol, treacle, powerful aroma, could easily smell while pouring
T - jumping jesus! Smooth, smooth, smooth, and soft as can be, yet the flavours are deeply intense and complex. Burnt sugars (not roasted) and lucious dark fruit dominate, spice shows up as it moves to back of the throat. It is quite sweet up front, but doesn't come across as unbalanced. Finish is dry, the alcohol finally shows up, and whadda ya know? It's smooth!
M - lucious mouthfeel. Soft and light. Carbonation is full, but has no harshness or bite. Alcohol is almost nonexistant, which is insane for an 11% beer.
D - incredible drinkability, or as the belgians say "digestability." I am floored by how easy this is to drink.
Staggering complexity of flavours and aromas, but what really gets me is the smoothness and how easy it is to toss this beer back (of course you want to take your time and contemplate the beauty). I'm a big fan of the Gouden Carolus beers, and this one is the best I've tasted.
I've got another one of these stashed away, and I can hopefully track down a few more before they disappear off the shelves, but right now, I'm going to enjoy every last drop of this bottle on my own.
