This new beer/food establishment is the site of the old Meadowlark Lounge (1980's) and Manion's Idlewood Inn ('90's), just up the hill from Bishop Canevin High School. Next to Bean Beverage on Noblestown Rd, between Carnegie, Greentree & Crafton.

I went in for a visit to check the place out. Had a very cold and tasty Troegs Pale Ale on tap. The waitress didn't bring back the $1 change from the $5 that I gave her. I would've given it to her anyway, but I hate when they just assume that the $1 tip is theirs. Anyway, the place has my favorite type of bar layout: a huge U-shaped bar, with the bartenders in the middle, the kitchen at one end, and there are no obstructions of view, so you can see everybody at all seats at the bar. Every bar should be laid out like this. They also have a few pool tables, and a fireplace over by where the bands used to play when it was the Meadowlark. They do/will have live bands here in the future. Colors are dark: brown bar, brownish walls, rust colored metal roof rafters and exposed ventilation made for a noisy experience. The place was packed. I can't wait until that smoking ban law passes! There really weren't any surprises on tap: Yuengling, Miller Lt, Coors Lt, Guinness, Blue Moon, a few others including Smithwicks and the Troegs PA. I saw a cute girl drinking what looked like a Redbach bottle, and there are around 50 bottles to choose from! I didn't try the food, but wood-fired pizzas sound like another trip is in store for me. I don't think they will be any competition for the nearby Sharp Edge Creekhouse, though. If anything, the 1-2 great beers on tap may sway enough curious newbie craft beer afficionados to head directly to the 'Edge instead of coming here, once their taste buds are adjusted to the better beers. To be honest, I actually felt like I was "cheating" on the 'Edge by coming here!

I was in the area recently so I thought I would stop in. I've been by it before but never stopped - I used to live in the area. Nice and open inside. Bar is a good size that wraps around in a U-shape so you can see everyone from where you are sitting. It was early on a Tuesday so there weren't many people there yet. I couldn't stay long but by 5:30 it was starting to get crowded. They have a good selection of microbrews on tap (probably around 30 of them) with the usual import offerings and additional bottle choices. A good selection overall. I couldn't stay long so I had an order of wings (10 cents each on Tuesdays) with honey jalapeno suace - very tasty with the right amount of zip. If I'm back again I would like to try one of their wood-fire pizzas. They sure did smell good while I was there. Other food offerings are your typical beer-bar fair: sandwiches, wraps, pasta, etc. Service was very good (of course, it wasn't extremely crowded yet). I would definately stop again when in the area. Wish I still lived nearby.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, not busy at all.

Atmosphere: Large horseshoe shaped bar on left surrounded by pub tables. Place gives off an industrial feeling with the exposed ceilings.

Selection: I counted at least 30 Taps and it does have a Beer Menu. Nothing that particularly stood out that grabbed my attention, but a pretty decent selection overall. Some notable good selections included: Green Flash Hop Head Red, SN Celebration Ale & Franzikaner Hefe.

Service was good as there were only 6 people at the bar.

Food: did not try any food but prices looked reasonable.

Quality: Here is where the ratings took a hit. My beer as well as my wife's beer was flat. No off taste, just flat with zero head. I looked around at the other people at the bar and noticed their beer seemed to be the same way. With 30 taps, I don't think they turn over the product and this is resulting in beer sold way after their prime. I also believe this could be a result of not cleaning their draft lines on regular basis.

Overall, I don't believe The Hop House is a Beer Geeks Paradise in terms of quality. They should cut down on the number of taps to half of what they have now and concentrate on quality over quantity.

Stopped here with the wife after a trip to Hops and Barley, the place is close to Beer World about a mile down the road a left instead of a right at the intersection, Just past the business section thought i gone too far after seeing houses, but there it was. Just an average looking place from the front with a good sized sign in the front.

A big square bar to the left as you walk in with bricks on the sides of the bar,a lot a brick highlights throughout. The ceiling was metal with bracing showing painted black with lot a little accent lighting with dimmers, there was booths along the back wall, lots of pub tables throughout,TV's by the booths and around the bar. 1 pool table and darts. The kitchen was visible at the back of the bar,you could see the fire oven going, very cool.A mixed crowd at 6:00 seemed like a older neighborhood crowd, wish this place was in my neighborhood. A very nice relaxed atmosphere, the kind of place that I could hang out at,casual and laid back.

There was 10 taps Troegs Pale Ale,DFH,Erie,Smithwicks,Hop Devil,Guiness,Great Lakes Christmas,Yuengling,Blue Moon, and some Coors light for the women,I hope. About 30 micro's your basic standard micro's nothing fancy just the basics. Also basic imports nothing exotic or Belgians.
The beer list was only on the menu, once they took the menu no more beer list. They need beer lists at the tables. A decent selection would make the craft beer drinker happy, and please the average beer drinker also.

A very nice impressive menu, not a lunch menu like a lot of beer bars. They used a wood fired oven which I smelled entering the place.A nice selection of appetizers,we had the onion straws they were good, had better but they were ok, no complaints. Had a hard time deciding what to order with everything on the menu there was a lot of speciality wood pizza's with any topping you could imagine, also salads, pasta, wraps, burgers, sandwiches,a very good looking menu.
The wife ordered the steak siskabobs and I had the special Hop House pasta.
Both of these dinners were execellent,we were both pleased. They both came with tasty salads a bit small, the house dressings were very good.

The service was execellent and quick, would not have any trouble getting the wife to come here again, and I wouldn't mind either. Not far of the Greentree exit. I would recommend giving this place a visit and come hungry.

When I first saw this place, we had to stop to see if it was a brewpub. Sadly it wasn't, but the beer selection was pretty decent... so we came back later in the evening for a few pints. Ten taps flowing with mostly decent beer. Had the GL Edmund Fitzgerald and the Victory IPA as well as a Yuengling lager and vowed to be back for food.

It's a place that is close to my friend's home, so we came back for dinner a few weeks later. Had the appetizer sampler and the veggie pizza. Sampler was pretty good, veggie pizza is great on the crust but a little lean on toppings. All in all, good food. Had that porter and some Yuenglings.

Atmosphere is average sports bar but is open and lit right and the smoke didn't get us the first time but was lingering the second time. Service varied all times. Excellent first visit, average second and third times.

Selection of beers, having been to several places around the area, is good for BA's. On tap, they did have the lights from Coors and Bud and workhorse Yuengling Lager, but the rest of the taps were decent for anyone into hops. Didn't try what they had in bottles, but besides BMCs, they had about 20 micro selections and about 12 imports.

Price was reasonable. It was $13 for a big pizza, about $8.00 for a pretty big appetizer platter, about 3-4 bucks per pint o beer with Yuenglings being $2.00 on the Saturday night we were there.

We will be back lots. It's my new place to have a few good beers when I'm in Pitt.

Along Noblestown rd. is The Hop House a newly opened bar that was once called Idlewood. Once I walked in I noticed the major remodeling they had done. The bar off to the left of the main doors was in the very large and in the shape of a U with the back open to display the kitchen and the wood fire stoves. To the right was a large open area with some tall table seating and pool tables. There are 10 drafts and a decent selection of bottles on hand to enjoy. Mostly made up of Ales from all the PA brewers (Troegs, Victory, Penn, etc...) plus more big names from around the U.S. (Bell's, DFH, Stone, etc...) make up a decent selection. I had a few bottles of Two Hearted and Blithering Idiot that were served without a glass so I had to politely ask for one which I think I had to get up myself and ask a bartender for because my waitress forgot. The food seems to be a main focus with pizza, sandwiches, some pasta and a few meat dishes. I ordered a wood fired burger and some appetizers that were all pretty good. At the end of the night though we all had fun and it seems we'll return because its fairly cheap and close to home. So I would recommend it if in the Crafton area.
