A: Poured light brown (med-light maple syrup color) with absolutely no head.
S: Smoke is the dominant smell and it kills anything else that could be there. As it warms, smells like ham (or any meat) cooked in maple syrup.
T: Smoke again and then after a while, an aftertaste of maple steps in. Definately not as sugary as I was expecting. Even a little bland.
M: Alright carbonation, slightly dry finish, nothing unpleasant.
D: Nothing bad but I would stick with sharing a bottle with someone.
Overall, I didn't think it was nearly as sweet as others said but I wouldn't buy it again. I think I was expecting more taste and it was a bit bland.

Pours a maple sugar brown with a whisp of a head. Smells lightly maple with a lot of honey and an almost wax like smell to it. Better than it sounds. Tastes a lot like maple bacon. Smoky, lightly malty, and a very sweet lingering maple on the tounge. Very different. Mouthfeel is moderate. Drinkability is good. No discernable alcohol. A really interetsing take on a smoky beer.

I think I was too polite to even try a maple syrup beverage, who knows what the heck. Aroma of sour and sweet apples. Very foamy soapy head on orange cloudy colour. Smokiness, apparently from smoked malt, and also burnt piece, like burnt toast or roast. Watery mouthfeel. Grows on you.Derek sharing.

Never seen this before but it looks like this is has been brewed for many years. Really don't know what to expect.
A- Loose yellowish head lasted about a minute. Honey color. Starts hazy and becomes almost opaque with last yeast filled pour.
S- Smell is real hard to get to. It's like it's enclosed or something. Yeast and sour apple. I smell maple water but not really maple syrup. I swirled my glass, activating a new head and some sort of great cream soda smell came out. Hot alcohol!
T- Clove is added to all of the smell detected. A little watery. Tasting it is a bit like tasting three different things, one at a time. First is water, then comes a good Belgian double and then ethanol. I understand there's maple syrup in here but never would I have guessed if it wasn't on the bottle. Aspartame and apple after-taste.
M- Carbonation is very present but extremely smooth. Small bubbles offer just enough tingle.
D- Good. Real easy to drink with the light taste and super smoothness but I don't want another one.
Was not expecting this dubbel/tripel feel. It was good but leaves me with a strange happy/disappointed feeling. I like dubbel/tripels but would've liked this beer to bring me something I can't get done much better.
Good and not very expensive but I've got better beers to try/drink.
When will I find a maple syrup beer that tastes like maple syrup?
EDIT: Read some reviews and the label, and people are getting smokiness. Zilch for me. Not smoky at all.

Pourred a dark brown brew with a reasonable head that stayed for a short while (as usual for Cheval Blanc). Usual Cheval Blanc malt taste with a small maple syrup touch in the background. A little bit of smoke. Not too bad and A+ for trying to do something different.

Appearance: poured into a pint glass, produced a good creamy off-white, finger and half head. Good carbonation, large bubbles that stream continuously. Beer is brownish orange color - like valencia orange jam, head dissipated quickly, hazy appearance
Smell: Like other RJ beers, is it posible Belgian yeast strain is used? However, other than this there is nothing extremely distinctive in the smell, very very mild muddy citrus hops, yeasty bread notes, ALSO definitely some corn smell (DMS), interesting smell of pale malt smokiness; however it is somewhat difficult to distinguish from the DSM
Taste: Upon tasting, it is definitely belgian yeast, dry, strange hay-like (not barnyard), definite DMS muddyness, very light smokiness, not disagreeable,smokey sweetness
After taste is bitterness and smoke bitterness, burnt wood,, very little discernible maple syrup flavor, back of the tounge some english hops bitterness
Nose: as it warms up, the smokiness becomes more prominent it is interesting to smell smokiness on paler malts and not so dark beer however i would never buy this beer again. Like all other Brasseurs RJ beers i have tried they are characterized by muddy flavours and overly heavy dense body for the styles. Makes it unpleasant to drink

quarterly tasting party may 16/07 with northyorksammy, Derek, and me (grub). everyone threw in a few bottles and we had an interesting mix of beer. Derek contributed this one, so thanks derek!
pours cloudy orangey amber with a small dense white head. head drops fast and leaves no lace.
aroma is ok. slightly solventy alcohol. bit of dirty hose water funk. little caramel sweetness. bit of maple. lemony sourness.
taste is not good. initially i thought the aroma wasn't that great, but then i tasted it. the taste seems like it's another beer, one that isn't nearly as good. slightly sour, but not in a good way. light maple. bit of alcohol. bit of cracker malt. bit of lemon. tastes more like a bottle that is going bad than one that is intentionally sour.
mouthfeel is not great. above average carbonation. thin, fairly dry body. sticky mouthfeel.
drinkability is also not great. this one seemed to start off ok, but then went down hill. maybe i'll try this one again someday, but i can't say i'll be looking for it.

Rich copper in color with a massive white head and a vertiable torrent of carbonation. The aroma carries a really distinctive malt character -- kind of a smoky woodiness. I didn't find this very appealing. The flavor is absolutely dominated by maple. It's almost like drinking carbonated syrup. More smokiness to the flavor, too, which tries to kind of balance the maple sweetness, in a way, but fails. Starts and finishes with just a tinge of lemony hop flavors. An interesting experiment, but on the whole, too sweet.

A: Hazy, light-orange colour, off-white head, no retention or lace.
S: Initial maple syrup aroma with smokey wood. Pineapple fruityness hints at the taste ahead.
T: Initial hit of maple flavour is quickly overcome by an unfortunate tartness. Although it's 6%, I don't think it has kept very well. There is some underlying smoke & woody flavours that lead me to believe this was once considerably better.
M: Light to moderate body is acidic; moderate carbonation.
D: I couldn't finish a glass... couldn't imagine a whole bomber.

660 ml brown bottle.
A- Light brown with yellow-orange highlights. Very cloudy from yeast. Decent initial yellow-tinged head. Dissipates quickly to leave a one bubble layer over the top of the beer.
S- Smoked sweetness. I like the smell, it reminds me of a meal at a sugar shack.
T- Strange sour middle to the beer that doesn't fit the hints of smoke and maple.
MF- Yeast sticks in the throat. Slightly astringent. A little too much funky character to this.
D- Just a little off all around. Needs more maple/smoke character and less weird yeast/fermentation flavour.

Purchased a bomber of this in Gatineau; it's been sitting around a while and carried to several tastings where it remained un-drunk, so I decided to drink it.
To quote grub, "it's just weird." Medium, cloudy orange colour with quite a lot of floating yeast particles. Small head, off-white. Aroma is sweet, somewhat cloying, with some mild cooked vegetable notes. Not much maple to speak of there, but wow, is there ever in the flavour. I was expecting it to be mild, but it almost tasted like drinking watery table syrup. Slightly tart, as well (which also reminds me of Aunt Jemima). Actually somewhat interesting, and the first few sips weren't bad, so I'll give it points for effort. But I couldn't finish more than about half the bottle, and that was pushing it.

Poured a hazey, burnished amber gold in the glass. Lame cap, poor lacing.
Aroma is primarily dominated with smoked malt but there are minute glints of maple and grain which pierce through it.
Front side is dominated with malt and sweetness burnished with smoke then some maple tastes peek out momentarily mid palate then the finish is wet grainy and smokey.
Actually a nice little brew if you have ever had a fondness for Schlenkerla smoked marzen. It mated well with a Thuringer sausage and Emmenthaler on Rye sandwitch.

A - The body is amber/light brown and is very cloudy. Pours quite smoothly. The light-brown head starts out nice but then dissipates almost entirely.
S - Roasted malty, some hops, and fruity notes.
T - Reminds me of a weizen, actually. A complex malty, sweet, and at the same time fruity flavour. Less watery than a weizen, though. The maple is very feint, but it starts to come out as the beer warms up and the carbonation goes down.
M - The carbonation is a bit high at first, then the mouthfeel becomes more pleasant. Medium-bodied, overall.
D - Not spectacular, but above average. A pretty interesting, enjoyable beer.

A: Golden in color, w/ no head. Kinda murky. Faintly resembles apple cider.
S: Lots of Malts. Malts in the front and back. Also some spices. Maybe cinnamon too. Some citrus too.
T: Kinda sour. Apples and cloves and orange.
M: Very thin and very crisp. Not chewy enough for me.
D: I'm glad I tried it for sure.

Hazy orange in colour with only a small amount of carbonation. The aromas start off as somewhat yeasty, but then quickly evolves into a combination of maple and vanilla. Fairly malty flavor with some subtle sweet maple and nut flavors on the finish. Unique, with good drinkability.
