330ml bottle 4.5% ABV bb 29 Jan 2014 Purchased and consumed in NZ in Dec. 2013.

Pale, hazy golden-yellow body with a fine white head, and champagne-like visible carbonation .

Feel: Light and thin body with medium-high carbonation.

Aroma: sweet and fruity with some bready malt in the background.

Flavor: lemony white bread with a touch of spicy hops.

O: A poor imitation of the original Anchor Steam. Not bad but not worth seeking out.

Hadn't heard of Mountain Goat before but the wife was inspired by the 'organic' branding so she picked it off the shelf. Got it home, and she gave it to me after only one sip. Diagnosis: not a beer for regular folk?

OK, my review...

Straw pour with one finger head receding to a persistent layer leaving no lacing behind.

Smell is on the lighter side, but a wonderfully pleasant aroma emanates from the glass nonetheless, with hints of flora and citrus.

Taste is light citrus (lemony), and very smooth.

Mouthfeel is once again very smooth, perfect carbonation.

Easiest drinking craft beer I've found, possesses the only good attribute of a macro (throw-down-ability), whilst still being a pleasant 'crafty' drop.

One of the most consistent beers I've tried, I would highly recommend this for summer as an easy drinking beer, and I will be purchasing lots.

Pours golden with lively carbonation sustaining an impressive white head.
Aroma is faint, but shows some mild spicy and minty hops, some bready wheat and sweet clean malt.
Quite clean flavours, and again, quite faint. Sweet clean malt and straw-like wheat first up, followed by quite a strong hoppy bitterness (reminds me of chinook) along with off-putting metallic notes on the finish. Has a certain white wine-like cloying sweetness throughout.
Seems watery to me. But as already mentioned, that only adds to its quaff-ability.

Pours straw yellow with slight cloudiness from bottle conditioning. Fresh yeast on the nose as well as some lemony citrus hops in the background. Crisp soft mouthfeel. Bit fruity. Firm but light bitterness. There seems to be a subtle roast note in there as well. It's like a summer steam beer. This is a very very well crafted beer. Sometimes I absolutely love a gentle delicate beer like this.

Drank fro my De Struise Tulip

A - Pours a hazey golden colour
, with a white fluffy head that reducesto a light film.

S - Grainy, dog food like aroma from the bottle. Mellows once poured.

T - N ice grains up from witha little citrus that finishes into a smooth almost nutty

M - Low carbonation and light to medium body, but cremay smooth.

D - My first steam beer so hard to judge, but I liked it a lot.

Ooh, my first steam beer.

Looks superb. Bright gold with a nice tit white head. Medium carbonation. Slightly turbid.

Slight hop aroma. Just enough to notice but not overpowering. Some sweet malt there as well. Maybe a touch of yeasty fermentation character but only a hint.

Nice clean taste. Malty with a bit of balancing hoppiness. Nice level of sweetness that would keep it interesting without being cloying or heavy.

Well I'm impressed. Wish I grabbed more than one bottle, but I will cherish this one. Easily drinkable and well made.

This pours a bright straw colour with a centimetre of head.

Some nice hop aromas: tropical fruits.

Hops dominate palate as well: pineapple flavours. Not much malt to speak of. Nice dry finish.

Medium bodied.

Everything adds up to make this one sessionable beer.

A bit of yawn in every glass. Not a terrible beer but not quite sure who would get into this. Not enough for the geeks and a bit out there for the regular folks. A bit of citrus hops on the nose and some more on the palate but very high carbonation gives it a prickly feel that hides some of the flavour. Somewhat one dimsional and drab for me. This is only the scond steam beer I've had, the other being the original Anchor and I didn't think much of that either so maybe it's the whole steam thing I don't dig.

330ml into a dimpled stein.

A-Straw to yellow body with a quickly fading white head.

S-Sweet bready/yeasty smell with a bit of fresh earthy hops.

T-very interesting combination of almost sweetness from the malts (cereal sweetness), but then a finishing dry bitterness akin to California IPA. The sweetness is similar to a farmhouse or saison, with less tartness, replaced by a dry bitter hop.

M-The carbonation makes it crisp with a lingering biscuit flavor.

O-This combination of sweetness and dry bitter is hard to put a finger on, but it works. The subtle sweetness takes this beer to a different level. I'd rather drink this than most of the IPA's I've had. Very well done.

330 ML bottle

A-- Clear straw yellow. Lots of carbonation bubbles. Thin white film with a decent ringed collar. Swirl it a bit and get a two fingered head that quickly fades away to film. Good ring of lacing though.

S-- Fresh grass and malt. Otherwise not much else.

T-- Crisp grass and not much else.

M-- Crisp and lively. Light feel and high carbonation. Grass finish to this.

O-- Good for warmer weather but not a lot to this at all.

A: Pours a hazy golden color with a nice head that fades to good lacing.

S: Aroma of citrus with some malt sweetness and grain.

T: Taste of mild malt sweetness with some fruit and spice. Mild bitterness and a clean finish.

F: Fairly light body, crisp, smooth and refreshing.

O: NIce beer that goes down quite easy. Good for a few.

Format: Standard 330 ml brown bottle poured cold in to Pilsner glass.

Look: A cloudy golden with a finger of foamy head that didn't last long but settled a lacy off white ring around the glass.
No visible carbonation but a lot of particles floating around. It is a living beer, after all so that's to be expected.

Smell: Straight away Its gives a beautiful strong fruity sweet, smell. Peach stands out above anything else.

Taste: as above. The palette immediately gets the sweet peachy flavor with a very subtle almost malty after taste replaced by the slight bitterness of hops. Not overpowering and quite enjoyable.

Feel: Her the invisible carbonation comes to life with a seltzer like sensation that lasts for quite a while. Not too heavy and not to light. Very smooth.

Overall: This was a nice beer to drink. There's nothing overpowering about it but it isn't lackluster either. Well balanced is the best way to describe it.
Ill buy it again.

Well done, Mountain Goat.
