The Bottle Imp is a strong, dark, roasty and rich creation. This rendition of a Russian Imperial Stout is also infused with a blend of Mexican and Ethiopian fair-trade organic coffee. Complex and contemplative, and with well-integrated alcohol warmth, The Bottle Imp is best served in a snifter, sipped slowly and savoured.

Cheers, SebD!

Appearance. Pours dark brown, black in the glass and topped with over a finger of khaki-brown head.

Smell. Huge cocoa, light licorice and a touch of coffee. Simple but nice.

Taste. Black coffee leads and falls off into powdery cocoa and a bit of grassy bitterness that coats the tongue. There's a touch of charred wood and anise there as well.

Mouthfeel. Pretty full body, low+ carbonation.

Overall. Very well made ris. There's a fair bit of hops going on still and I've had this thing at least 8 months now. Would love to try it again in another year ...guessing it would be sublime.

Pours an opaque dark brown. Huge khaki head. Leaves quite the film on the glass.
Nutty, smokey, coffee and chocolate aroma
Taste is very much like the aroma with a heavy dark chocolate finish.
Strangely, this has a milk stout mouth. Very pleasant!
Another 4 star for Beau's!

Purchased at the LCBO for just under $8.00 for a 600ml bottle. Served at 8deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a decent 0.5" thickish looking head that dissipates to a film within a minute or two. Very dark.

S- Very much a chocolate stout. The coffee enriched malt base is very nice to the nose

T- Nice stout. Has the body and depth you are looking for in a good blend. Has an earthy hint to it. Touch warm as you can tell the alcohol is definitely there.

M- Bit of a chalky nature to the aftertaste which is a touch un-palatable at times.

O- Nice stout overall. Looking forward to seeing this age although I suspect it will not appreciate much so I will put it in the rotation for once in a while.

.Food Pairing

This nice little stout went well with...... BBQ'd hamburgers. Wow it cut through the flame taste and I loved it.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark black color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some minor lacing. Aroma of dry strong coffee notes with light floral touch. Taste is also dominated by strong coffee notes with an almost astringent finish with dry roasted malt also clearly identifiable. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Bitter roasted malt are just too astringent for me to really enjoyed this beer.

Appearance: It has a nice jet black color to it. It has a nice thick creamy mocha head that dies down moderately slow and leaves some lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of coffee, chocolate, rich roasted malts, some molasses, caramel and faint dark fruit.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a some rich coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, an espresso like bitterness, molasses and faint dark fruit.

Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a very nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by great flavors and aromas. Props to David Thompson for making this great Russian Imperial Stout.

600 mL bottle picked up at the LCBO; bottled Dec 11 2014 and served slightly chilled.

Pours an inky black hue, topped off with nearly two fingers of bubbly beige-coloured froth. Retention is pretty good; it seeps away steadily over the next five minutes or so, coating the glass with a sticky pattern of lace as it recedes into a more manageable cap and collar. This is a beautiful stout, and the nose ain't half bad, either - plenty of dark, roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee beans, with hints of plum, black cherry and licorice. A bit muted in intensity, but enticing enough.

Fortunately, the first sip reveals the flavour to be anything but subtle - black coffee and baker's chocolate leap right out, coating the palate. There are lesser notes of plum, vanilla and molasses sweetness, but for the most part coffee - and to a smaller extent, cocoa - are the dominant flavours throughout. The finish becomes increasingly bitter and roasty, bordering on charry, with a touch of anise preceding a long, astringent aftertaste. Medium in body, but approaching full; the carbonation levels are moderate, gently agitating the palate and resulting in a smooth, slick mouthfeel. The alcohol is relatively well-masked, which makes this 9% imperial stout surprisingly easy to knock back.

Final Grade: 4.17, an A-. I've tried more than 20 different beers from these guys, and I have to say that Beau's Bottle Imp is undoubtedly one of their better offerings. This is an impressive, rich-tasting imperial stout that is guaranteed to satisfy your coffee beer cravings. Recommended, and worth the price, though there are still other Ontario-brewed impy stouts I'd pick first over this one.

600 ml bottle served fairly cold into a pint glass. Sipped over an hour and half so this did get a chance to warm up. Purchased from LCBO for $7.85 CDN.

Appearance - Dark brown with a couple of honey hued aspects as it was poured. So I guess it's lighter than other other big stouts. 3 fingers of ahead poured after an aggressive pour, dark and ominous. Spidery lacing left behind.

Smell - Dark chocolate and some coffee. A touch of leather and even tobacco too. Simple yet surprisingly complex.

Taste - Big bitterness bill at the start, fairly hop forward. Burnt coffee to complete. Did I mention bitter. A bit of a bourbon soaked vanilla flavor but that taste is fleeting. Booze is well hidden.

Mouthfeel - Smooth with high carbonation and a simultaneous silky and oily feeling. Quite nice.

Overall - Cretainly a well crafted RIS, nothing to complain about other than the fact that everyone seems to be able to a good RIS and this doesn't separate form the pack.
