Got this one from hopsolutely this past summer. Thanks for all the stuff guys!

Old ale aged in rum barrels

APPEARANCE: Pours a 1 ½ finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with excellent retention. Head fades to a full wisp and ring. Body is a clear brown color with lower levels of carbonation evident. A ring and some dotty wisp remain but leave no lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Toffee, some oak, rum and sugar notes on the nose. A little milder than hoped. Okay, but not much going on.

TASTE: Sugary rum up front with light flavors of oak and toffee at the swallow. More flavorful after the swallow, but it’s rather bland initially. Some oak, toffee and brown sugary sweetness, lightly spicy rum and alcohol linger on the palate. Quite boozy and rather harsh, while also lacking a bit of character.

PALATE: Medium-thinner body with medium levels of carbonation. Prickly on the palate, goes down a bit abrasive and finishes somewhat sticky. Some heat lingers as well.

OVERALL: Not all that interesting or complex. I drank about half of it before cutting my losses and moving on. This one lacks a layer of complexity I’d hoped for and the feel is rather thinner and harsher than expected. A little too much alcohol presence for the ABV as well. Not horrible by any means, but not really my thing. Thanks again for the stuff guys!

Purchased at the LCBO for just under $10.00 for a 750ml bottle. Served at 8deg C in a short glass

My 100th review was saved for a good beer but...

A- Ok Opened ok but I poured hard and only a 1/4" head that dissipated to nothing within 1min. Dark. Brown. Not bad

S- Just a basic hum drum beer. So similar in browns to others. They need to separate themselves.

M- Pretty good and creamy.

O- Not bad but is only worth half of what I paid. Would not buy again. If Beau's keeps this high price and low flavor up then that's it for them!!

Food Pairing

This ok beer worth $5.00 for a 600ml bottle goes well with.... Hot Sausage Casserole.

Enjoy

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and minor lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt notes with some light dry fruits notes. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt notes with residual sugars very well balanced and some very subtle rum barrel notes. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad overall but well short on the complexity front while rum barrel are too subtle for my taste.

A - Poured medium brown and settled an opaque dark brown with one finger of dirty white head.

S - A burnt aroma up front. Smoke, caramel, some oak, toffee.

T - Toffee and caramel notes dominate in a fairly sweet overall palate. Hints of smoke, raisin and spice (possibly from the rum?). There seems to be a faint hint of oak present but had I not been searching for it, I wouldn't have found it.

M - Medium body. A touch thin. Light to moderate carbonation.

O - Not bad but I think this could have used more time in the barrels. Very muted barrel notes. This is certainly not a bad beer; probably one of the better Beau's beers I've had, but there's plenty of room for improvement.

600ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $10

Appearance - Dark brown colour with an average size frothy beige head. I can't make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 4-5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, grains, molasses, soya sauce

Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, grains, and caramel/molasses. I can also taste a bit of the rum/booze and a bit of dark fruits and a hint of all spice.

Overall - A little lighter than I was expecting, it needs a little more sweetness. Kind of tastes like a diet old ale, if that makes any sense. Decent, but nothing to write home about.
