From a 600 ml bottle to a pint glass.

Night Märzen pours an orange/amber with a two to three finger head, which is foamy or soapy in appearance and breaks down leaving a thin layer of bubbles. The smell is mild and has hints of hops and malts, it is remarkably unremarkable. The traste brings out the hops a bit more but that is on the tail end. That is where most of the flavor is in this beer, on the tail end...malts and toffee also come through mid range to tail end as well. There is little up front but a subtle grassy taste. The mouth feel is light to medium and the carbonation is mild.

Overall, I found this to be an average beer. It is not something in would revisit. Interestingly enough several of my friends swear by this beer. Personal preference being what it is, I guess that is why we all review separately and not collectively.

600ml brown bottle with a freshness date.

Brassy hue, clear with a sufficient amount of head. Aromas of rich toasted malt, bread crust, hay, and faint sweet herbal hop ... very clean. Love the smoothness, good crisp bite. Full malt jacket, clean and I can taste everything from light grassiness to bread to a hint of chicory. Hoppiness is just enough to balance with a kiss of herbal flavor. Finishes dry with lots of toasted grain.

Solid, perhaps not the most epic of the style but it leaves me wanting a lot more.

Appearance: It has a nice deep golden/orange color to it. It has a nice
off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves little lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of caramel, bready malts, grains, grassy hops and light spices.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some grains, bready malts, with grassy hops balancing it out, some caramel and some toffee.

Mouthfeel: It has a light carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas. Very refreshing!

look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Appearance: A rusty copper body boasts high amounts of thin carbonation. The head produced a solid finger and a half, but did not lace nor retain very well.

Smell: Overwhelming caramel malt with a grassy hop background and a couple orange and peach notes. Nothing fancy, nothing overtly special. Warming brings out the fruitier notes.

Taste: Ample caramel malt floods the tastebuds and is slowly supplanted by fruitier orange, peach and apricot elements as a flash of pine and grassy hops finishes off the beer.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation here very finely walks the balance between creamy and bubbly and smooth transistioning helps out the case as well. There is a nice mixed taste aftertaste to the beer which if stronger and more complex would have won the perfect score.

Drinkability: Medium bodied that while remarkably easy to drink, I don't know if I would want more then two. This beer walks a strange line to me, like it should be heavier then it is, but it still serves it well.

Final Thoughts: Certainly a beer worth trying and as a seasonal, yeah I'd say it's appropriate. I wouldn't want it in the the summer, but certainly any other time.

As mentioned by others, the packaging by Beau's is superb. I always look forward to Beau's seasonals ...

Nightmarzen pours a light rusty/copper colour, and what little head there was disappeared fast.

Not a strong scent, but hints of caramel and hops are present. Lightly carbonated.

Very light mouthfeel. Taste has some initial sweetness and a nice touch of bitterness. Very smooth.

Overall, quite enjoyable. I wonder if I got an off bottle as others report lots of head. A great beer, but not my favorite from Beau's!

Haven t done a beer review in so long, so I had a look in the fridge and grabbed the first beer my arm reached for...

Appearance: Really love beau's packaging. Yes it amps the price up (probably considerably) but there is probably no better presentation in Ontario. The beer iteslf is a rich copper hue with a nice white head that leaves ample lacing on my tall Stiegl glass.

Smell: A hint of caramel from the malt is a warm welcome. the malt is very clean and clear. Hops are present too and nicely balanced. Despite the rustic packaging from Beau's this one is no barnyardy brew. Very clean on the nose.

Taste: My wife remarked that there's not a lot of flavor here, and while I agree, it does suit the style well. The finish is where the flavors come alive however. a long toffee and pine taste is lingering and warm.

Mouth-feel: Pretty juicy. I suppose it could be a bit drier for my taste. Carbonation is spot on and helps the situation. Bitterness from the hops is really good on the finish.

Overall: A beer I could easily drink all October long, but not one I'd personally seek to drink a ton of. Nightmarzen is however a well balanced, easy drinking beer with some nice character on the finish.

Deep copper, thick off-white head. Nice clear lacings.

Clean grain, very light caramel, grassy continental hops.

Nice grain flavour, mid-palate has a good toast character with a bit of sweetness. Clean finish with just a touch of bitterness.

"Clean" is the operative word here. Flavours are clrealy defined and pretty spot-on. Feel like either the malt or hops could be amped up just a tad, but a good drinkable Oktoberfest otherwise.
