600ml brown bottle with a freshness date.

LOOK: Expressive head, hazed red hue, good head retention

SMELL: Chalky yeast, faint bubble gum, dried tropical fruit, peppery, rose water, herbal, alcohol

TASTE: Dry, bready, toasted biscuits, crackers, dried grass, dates, mild twang, estery, nutty yeast, earthy, dired fruit, very dry finish

The Trappist ale yeast used in the secondary here did a great job, very dry but still leaves all of the core aspects of the beer with out leading it down a completely different path. Dates and the sugar addition add a ton of depth, it really is not until about the 4-5 sip that this one started to truly grown on me. I am glad it did ...

Subscription series bottle. Smell is prune and something sugary. Reddish brown colour with one-quarter inch of head and thick lace. Some olive oil taste. A dab of spice. Wierd and different. So-so drinkability.Middling mouthfeel.Lacking something, maybe honey?

On draught at WVRST for the release party. Into a Beau's branded pint glass.

Poured a murky reddish brown, with a cream head. Modest retention which eventually fades to nothing but a collar and leaves no lacing to speak of. Nose is peculiar, strong olive/olive pits and olive brine (you know the olive station at the supermarket? Yeah, that). Some dark bread and grainy notes, rye? Dark sugar and an understated sweetness. Taste has less of that olive extravaganza that the nose offered, but has notes of dates and sort of dark fruit 'seediness' that I'm struggling to describe. More dark sugar, likely a product of the cane sugar used and dark bread. Dry finish that's fairly neutral in flavour. OK drinkability but not something I'm motivated to pursue more pints of. An interesting beer nonetheless.
