For 6.5% this is very light. I can see the saison this. Very very low smell or wheat and citrus. Unfiltered, vigorously carbonated. Gold in colour. First sip, apparent wheat, very light on the pallete. Leaves you wanting more, deceiving. Low hops, low malt, and like said earlier, apparent wheat. This is such a drinkable beer. This is an honest shame this is only a season/limited release! I would buy this regularly if offered other then a near bomber.

600 mL bottle picked up at the LCBO; packaged June 12 2014 and served slightly chilled. This is the second bottle I've had over the last two weeks or so.

Pours a bright golden-blonde colour, hazy and highly effervescent; generating two fingers of pillowy white froth. It recedes very gradually over the next few minutes, coating the glass with a curtain of lace before settling into a more manageable half-cm of creamy head and collar. This one looks the part, but isn't particularly aromatic. Wheat sweetness is overshadowed by lemon and orange citrus, yeast, clove and some floral notes, which I presume are from the elderflower. Not bad, but too muted.

Thankfully, the flavour profile has a little more kick behind it than the nose did. Grainy malts and wheaty sweetness provide a backbone, with more of the orange peel and lemon citrus notes mentioned earlier coming through at first. It becomes less fruity and more spicy/yeasty toward the finish, with clove and pepper accompanying a floral, herbal bitterness that only briefly lingers on the palate. Dry aftertaste. Medium-bodied, possibly leaning on the light side of that category, with aggressive carbonation that well-complements the spicy finish. Extremely drinkable for something that is basically 6%, and quite refreshing.

Final Grade: 3.79, a B+. Beau's Patio Saison is a good beer, but there is some very stiff competition in this category. This brew's highlights include the nice blend of spice, citrus and floral notes, as well as the crisp, active mouthfeel. I'm enjoying this saison, but to be honest I've never really had a saison I didn't enjoy, and this one isn't particularly cheap, nor is it particularly great compared to its competitors (especially when you take the price point into account). As is the case with Nickel Brook's Le Paysan, this is a solid brew that is worth a try, but in a pinch I'm more likely to grab Black Oak's, or one of the Goose Island saisons over either.

Pours a bright, hazy, soft orange color with a bone white head. Some lace, decent retention. Spicy, herbal peppercorn aroma with a bit of lemons and light citrus, a hint of musk and spicy yeast notes. Touches of floral ops, with bits of citrus rind, musky yeast notes, pepper and earthiness. Light and airy body, crisp, well carbonated, refreshing. Overall, it's a very quaffable Saison ripe for the warm summer heat that's knocking at the door here in the south.

Thanks Chris!

Patio Saison looks like it's in the midst of a heat haze: the sunny, golden colour has succumb to a smoggy blur, while the initially soaring head has deflated to a shriveled, dried-up outline. Lacing is apparently too lazy to stick to the glass. All this lends a definite 'summery' vibe.

Although flavoured with only orange peel and elder flower, the bouquet has a somewhat 'silk road'-esque musk that includes subtle notes of peppercorns, clove, coriander, lemon thyme, and other citrus fruits. Mind you, this perfume is nowhere near potpourri-level and, truthfully, could use a good shot in the arm.

The palate, unfortunately, is no more evocative with its spice or citrus elements. It, too, contains a nice, rounded profile that amounts to only a mediocre sensory experience. I can understand how pepper or clove might be construed, though I insist the mouthfeel is lacking in savor. There's not enough hangtime.

Still, it is easy to lose yourself in that floral flavour and the summery tastes of orange peel, orchard pear, and green table grapes. And with gentle bitterness it sure qualifies as refreshing. This would make a great appetizer beer and is likely to appeal to most all beer drinkers.

Enjoying this saison on a patio is not necessary. A shady spot under a tree will do, easier yet with a loved one and a picnic basket full of fruits, fresh bread and runny cheese. Or, apparently, complete solitude and a computer desk will also suffice. Really, there's no bad environment in which to enjoy this cheery, easy-going offering.

Pours a hazy orange colour with a lot of suspended solids; the minimal head disappears except for the edges of the glass. Aroma of Belgian yeast has a caramelized malt backbone. The flavour is also Belgian yeast-forward, with a sweet toffee start that has malts & wheat in the body and a hint of hop bitterness at the end. The Belgian elements linger long into the finish.

Believe this to be a well brewed Saison and a good example of the style. Just not a style I'd personally have chosen, if I wasn't focused on getting the stout with which it came packaged...

600ml Bottle part of the holiday mix pack for 24$ from the Ottawa LCBO

Appearance - Hazy yellow colour with an average size fizzy white coloured head. It's hard to make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some good acing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes.

Smell - Breads/grains, lemons, coriander

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste bread/grains mixed with some tart lemon/citric notes. There is also some light banana and some coriander. It ends with a tart lemon grainy aftertaste.

Overall - I liked this one and it seems better than it's rating depicts. It has a a nice mix of flavours and doesn't have that signature Beau's farm/grassy/hay taste which I don't really care for. I'd buy this one again.

600 ml bottle into a tumbler

Look

Quite a murky amber colour. Two inches of medium foamy head that quickly receded to one inch. Just a tracy of lacing.

Smell

Definite orange aroma. Smells like old beer. Belgian yeast quite prominent.

Taste

Orange rind taste backed with grassy hopiness. Strong taste of Belgian yeasts. Sweet taste of sugar candy. Dry aftetasate.

Feel

Full mouth feel with strong dryness.

Overall

Very enjoyable. Quaffable but a light weight for a Saison.

Hazy bright orange colour, one finger of white head, some lace around the top. Smell is fruity and yeasty, fresh spice and banana, bubble gum, coriander and a bit citrusy as well. Taste is yeasty with some wheat flavours, subtle spice, banana and bubble gum, fairly one dimensional and a bit of a let down considering it had a fairly interesting nose. Medium high carbonation, medium bodied. Still quite a nice beer, not terribly interesting or complex but still quite drinkable.

Appearance: hazy dull orangeébrown like fresh apple juice; frothy white head with great retention

Aroma: vibrant, tart vaguely vinegary fruit; orange; hint of spice

Taste & Mouthfeel: first hit is big spice, from start to finish, and has real bit (if not complex); peppery, not the herbacious coriander sort of spice you`d expect, and some of it has the feel of orange peel - it has that bitterness in the finish; orange pulp is there but very light; medium-light body good carbonation; refreshing once you really get into it, with more juicy fruit flavours coming out to balance the pepper, and that bitter peel in the finish really doesn`t go away

Overall: wish I`d had it in the summer and really given it the proper experience, I`ll definitely give it a go if I run into it; different than most saisons I`ve tried, even if not a favourite (the peel is a little too much), but something worthy of the patio for sure

Appearance: It has a nice cloudy golden/orange color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down slowly and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of bready yeast, citrus, spices, wheat and some grassy notes as well.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a some bready Belgian yeast, spices, citrus, lemon and some light wheat malts.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

Beau's private order group tasting. Funky aroma. Yellow bodied with bubbly head Yeasty, a smooth drinking saison. Leaves lots of lace. Decent drinkability for a Summer german wheat beer..A tad of white pepper. Unexceptional as a saison, but refreshing German style beer.

Bottled November 27, 2012

Cloudy golden with a moderately-sized white head. Head recedes at a moderate pace. Some lace.

Wheat, spices and orange in the nose. Yeast. Floral notes.

The orange peel comes screaming through in the taste. Although more bitter, it tastes a lot like a witbier. Wheat is big. Belgian yeast and a cereal flavour. Quite dry.

Medium bodied, strongly carbonated.

Overall, pretty average. Not terribly flavourful, and too dry for the flavour profile.

Bottle: Poured a slightly hazy dirty hay color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of slightly sweet rustic malt with light fruity ester and some light floral malt notes. Taste is also dominated by floral notes with some sweet rustic malt notes and some fruity floral hops profile. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not your typical saison but well enjoyable nonetheless.

Bottle from Beau's Holiday 4 Pack, bottled on November 27, 2012. Poured in to FFF Teku glass.

A - Cloudy dark yellow with orange in the centre. One finger of off-white head.

S - Big clove and Belgian yeast aromas up front with some lighter citrus, floral and bready malt notes in the background.

T - Very strong clove and Belgian yeast flavour up front that dominates throughout. Some sweet bready malts, lemon zest and floral notes are also present. Very dry with decent bittering. A touch hot.

M - Light body with some chew. Moderate carbonation.

O - This was very average. I found it tasty but somewhat difficult to drink and couldn't get through the entire large format bottle.

From the Best of Beau's Mix Pack 2012.
600ml bottle poured into a goblet. ABV 6.3%.

A - Poured a hazy pale golden orange with a white head that reduced to surface bubbles. Some lacing.

S - Bread, oranges, spicy notes, grass in the background. Smells inviting.

T - Sweet, some bread, lots of citrus, light spiciness, mild bitter finish. Tastes somewhat like a wheat beer without much of the banana flavour.

M - Medium carbonation, medium body, tangy, clean finish, very little aftertaste.

O - Pretty good. Saison is certainly a style I'll revisit.
