650ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $7

Appearance - Gold colour with a large size white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for around 4-5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Hops, yeast, breads/grains, lemons

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste banana, breads/grains, hops, and a grassiness. There is also some yeasty flavour and a peppery spice mix and some citrus zest.

Overall - Decent but it comes across as a little astringent at times. A bit of a medicinal type of dry flavour. Anyways, another Beau's beer, another average rating.

Pours a light , filtered straw colour, with a medium sized white head, and moderate carbonation. Considerable lacing left behind as drunk. Aromas of citrus, a light pepperiness, and a touch of Belgian yeast. Taste wise I’m getting mild citrus, a bit of banana, and light pepper (although far less pepper than their excellent Patio Saison). Overall a very refreshing Hopfen Weisse, and an excellent summer beer. My fave Beau’s label from a visual standpoint, to date.

Bottle: Poured a hazy pale yellow color ale with a generous white head with good retention and some minor lacing. Aroma of wheat malt with some tropical fruity notes is quite refreshing. Taste is also dominated by some good wheat malt with light grainy aftertaste and some medium tropical fruits notes. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Very enjoyable brew and probably and one that I could see myself purchasing again in the future.

600 ml bottle purchased from local LCBO for $7.85 CDN. Served well-chilled into glassware.

Appearance - Hazy straw yellow with orange hues. Excellent 3 finger foamy white head that seems to be commonplace with all good-great hefes. Good retention and some lacing left on the sides of the glass. As the frothy head recedes it coalesces into a substantial cylindrical cap. Some bubbles are visible, but only at the edges of the glass.

Smell - It's got some of the usual suspects some banana and clove, but there's a bigger pepper influence and also some lemon zest. More citrusy than most hefeweizens, but this is advertised as a hopfenweise, so the added citrus aromas is too be expected.

Taste - Interesting a bitter banana, clove mixture, with quite a bit of earthy hop flavor. very bitter and more of the dank, earthy varierty than the more floral and sweet citrus variety. Some mild sweetness from the banana maybe blended with a touch of caramel at the end.

Mouthfeel - Impressively lively carbonation which accentuates the sharp and bitter hops flavor. Otherwise remarkably light bodied and a fine sipper.

Overall - While I don't think this quite stands up to some of the brilliant German Hefes, this is a very interesting play on the style, adding the bitter hops at the end to cancel out much of the sweetness normally found in other beers in the style. The best analogy I can come up with is a play on the traditional hefeweizen crossed with Schneider Weisse Hopfenweise, watered down some and some additional bitterness added and this is what you get.

Poured from a bomber into a stemmed tulip glass and shared with a friend

A pleasing golden hue pouring to a thick white head that leaves decent lacing. The nose is soft but interesting, grassy and herbal with some lemon and white pepper (and maybe a touch of banana in the background?). The palate is pleasing but one-dimensional; again grassy wheat with herbal hop notes, with touches of lemon rind, pepper. It has a medium body and good carbonation. Overall, I think this is a great summer patio beer.

600 mL bottle picked up at the local LCBO; bottled on Feb. 24 2014. I've always felt that Beau's has pretty great label art, but this one may be one of their best - very classy. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a hazy golden-yellow colour; highly effervescent, and crowned with two fingers of soapy, resilient white head. Beautiful lacing, with a messy cap left over once the head has receded. The aroma is very citrus-focused, with lots of lemon zest and spicy, herbal hops, in addition to the more orthodox hints of sweet wheat malt, banana and clove. Quite enticing so far.

I've not had many hopped hefes, but this one has quickly cemented itself as one of my favourites. Wheat malt, pineapple and banana start us off, but the hops soon counter with lots of lemon and citrus pith. A pleasant, spicy finish, with pepper and clove working nicely alongside a lingering, herbal bitterness. This one loses a few points on the mouthfeel for being a little light, but I enjoy the spritzy carbonation, which suits the spicy tail-end of the flavour profile. A pleasure to drink all around.

Final Grade: 4.11, a solid A-. Wag the Wolf is one of the brightest stars in the Beau's portfolio - it is not a traditional hefeweizen, instead billing itself as a 'hopfenweisse', but there's no denying that it's a wonderful wheat beer. The fruity, zesty hops provide a unique dimension to this one, with the aggressive, spicy finish sealing the deal for me. It's refreshing, tasty, and surprisingly drinkable for a 6% brew - well worth grabbing even at this premium price point. This is my second bottle, and if it remains in stock I may be back for more.

Appearance: It has a nice hazy golden color to it. It has a nice very thick off-white head that dies down very slowly and leaves lovely lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of cloves, pepper, lemon, orange zest and some banana.

Taste: It's starts off with a grassy bitterness, followed by some cloves, pepper, lemon/orange zest and some banana.

Mouthfeel: It has a med/high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by good flavors and aromas.

Appearance: hazy, dull gold; white, frothy head; very active carbonation

Aroma: grapefruit, cilantro, orange; sour, a bit of funk

Taste & Mouthfeel: resin, pine, lemon pith bitterness assaults initially - pithy flavour is quite intense, distracting even; light body, good carbonation; there are hints of other spice - clove, pepper - and citrus fruit; dry finish, huge length, that bitter flavour just won't go away, not that it's bad, could just be toned down a bit

Overall: as with most Beau's beers, there's something "real, authentic" about this, and in the right context this could be great, paired with something sharply flavoured, but on it's own the advertised exotic flavours get overwhelmed by the pithy bitterness

Bought a few bottles of this at the brewery after trying it there.

Very cloudy with a beautiful yellowish orange color. This beer reeks of bananas (in a good way) with slight spicy notes.

When drinking this, you get the taste you'd expect from beau's (house taste) with everything you'd hope for in a hefe. Again very fruity and nicely spiced.

Overall, this beer is delicious and highly drinkable. Definitely their best offering.
