Disclaimer: It is my understanding that previous to the purchase by Centerbridge in 2010, each location would have more freedom in brewing each beer to make it their own. It appears to me that Rock Bottom brewery's beers are to be a mish mash of different beers brewed at different times by different brewmasters. That said:
Imbibed at Rock Bottom in Campbell, CA on 3/1/2012.
Sits a shiny, metallic gold, clear, with two fingers thick, foamy head. Not much lacing in my Mug Club stein. Piney, resinous, and a bit grassy in the nose. Smells a bit skunky, but in a hoppy good way. Not much malt to sniff out. Nutty, pale two row malt flavor followed by bitter, citrusy hops.Bitterness is pretty mild for an IPA. Balanced mouthfeel with a dry finish.
Decent, but nothing about it stands out to me. A pretty good beer, but there are definitely better IPAs out there, especially in Northern California.

It's a deep, translucent bronze color off the tap, which creates a small, creamy and compact head that retains itself pretty well, holding up a foam the whole way, and drops down scattered lacing of moderate strength.
There's a hint of citrus in the nose balanced by caramel malt with notes of wheat, interestingly, and a little earth as well. It's a little light.
Hops are a little stronger in the flavor, though it's ultimately a little too strong in the malts for an IPA. Bitterness is mostly in the finish, though some pine and citrus peel do build up in the middle a bit. Malts give off caramel sweetness and breads with an underlying grainy/earthy note.
It's a little bit thin despite a medium body, though it's got a little life to it. The bitterness in the finish tends toward astringency, but it's not bad.

Long lasting head that leaves a rich blanket of lace on the glass. Clear with a bright copper color.
Strong caramel aroma reminiscent of British IPAs but the hop aroma leans toward America.
The malt is more subdued in the flavor profile. The hop is more biting and peppery than the smell suggests. The aftertaste does bring back the English malt with plenty of caramel and deeply toasted grain. Unlike most of the offerings, this one has a nice balance between the bubbles and body.
