First had: on tap at Rock Bottom, King of Prussia, PA

An okay pumpkin ale selection. Poured a bronzed orange color with a small off-white head that laces decently and retains as a thin spotty layer. Aroma is bready, malty, with hints of spice. Didn't get an overwhelmingly big sense of pumpkin in the taste, which is typically not good...when I have a pumpkin ale, I want pumpkin in the taste. More malty, bready, with nutmeg and cinnamon coming through, and pumpkin just hinted at. Medium mouthfeel, and pretty drinkable, but I'd sooner have a Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, or better yet a yummy Harvest Moon Brewery Pumpkin Ale!!! (If and when I ever get back to New Brunswick in the right season.)

Sampling right now after bowling on 9/23/14. From the New Holland Brewing Company in Holland, Michigan, Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a handled glass stein with a Jack-o'-lantern on it. :)

Pours a hazy burnt-orange in color with a thin white head. Some spotty lacing is seen when sipped. The aroma is very nice and consists of pumpkin, spices and grains. Even more going on with the taste with lots of pumpkin flavor with nutmeg and cinnamon with a hint of bread (yeast). Goes down smooth and easy with no bitter or harsh aftertaste at all. Medium bodied with perfect carbonation. A really tasty pumpkin ale and one of the better ones!

On tap in a nonic glass in early December 2010.

I was surprised to see this still on tap so late in the Pumpkin Beer season, so I gave it a try. great looking, nice offwhite head, light lacing. Great smell of cinnamon and pumpkin. Flavor of malt, strong pumpking, nutmeg, and very very faint hop bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel was surprisingly thin, but good. I'm not a fan of overly hoppy beers at all, but this was even almost too malty for me. A solid pumpkin beer, but I think I'd order a lager or something a little more bitter after this one.

Drank at the bar on 10-6. Reviewed from notes.

Chalkboard above bar notes a birthdate of 10-6 (holy freshness) and an ABV of 5.2%. Description states "Pumpkin pie in a glass."

Liquid is a brownish gold in color with bubbly carbonation and a tuft of soapy tan head. The foam quickly evaporates, leaving behind a faint lacing.

Smell is faint, with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pie crust. A bit too hard to nose out.

Flavor primarily focuses on nutmeg and holiday spicing with a mild dryness, malty backbone and a shade of citrus hops. This is a clean and respectable version of the style, boasting more malt and actual "beer" flavor.

Mouth boasts a crisp bite, reminiscent of a macro lager, opening smooth, but ending with an earthy graininess.

This is a bit more drinkable than most of its type, in my opinion, and it's nice to see a beer focus on malt and body over heavy spicing.

Pours a coppery orange color, with frothy off white head. Smell is of pumpkin pie spices (cinnamin, nutmeg, ginger) and light pumpkin puree. Taste kicks the scent upo a notch with a full flavored pumpkin pie in a glass taste - pumpkin pie filling, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, bready malts. Only thing its missing is the whipped cream! Medium bodied, good carbonation. A very good pumpkin brew!

Rock Bottom really keeps impressing, which itself is impressive. This one is a solid pumpkin beer.

Normal pumpkin pie spices on the nose. Stereotypical pumpkin ale spice tastes.

Only real flaw with the beer is a somewhat weak mouthfeel. Somewhat watery, but not horrible.

Had this last night on tap at the bar during the Phil's game. Tapped one day earlier, and poured into my pint glass.

Appearance: Slightly hazy copper/amber color. Small 1 finger off-white head that hangs around for a little before ultimately becoming just a thin layer on top. Some lacing, not much.

Smell: A rather subdued aroma of some spices and some floral hops. Perhaps a touch of pumpkin, but overall their is not much of a nose on this one.

Taste: Despite the aroma, it is not hard to find the pumpkin and the spiciness in this one. Typical pumpkin ale spicing of cinnamon, nutmeg, a little brown sugar. Cinnamon seems to be the predominant spice here. Pumpkin is hidden behind the spices but was there at the beginning and comes out in the finish and after taste.

Mouthfeel: Sort of a spicy bitterness to it at the end, and a good level of carbonation makes the finish real nice. This is a medium bodied brew that leaves a pumpkin flavor and carbonation tingle on the tongue.

Drinkability: High. I had too many of these last night. Great beer though, drinks real well and is balanced enough with the spice that it doesn't get old or fatigue the palate.

I've had a lot of pumpkin ale's, some I've reviewed and most I haven't. The real good ones I'll always review, and this is probably in my top 3 right now. Great Pumpkin Ale here.

On tap at the brewpub on 11/8/08, served in a Mug Club Mug.

Poured a hazy amber orange color with 1 finger of foamy light tan head. OK retention left some good lacing. Smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, floral hops, and a touch of caramel. Tastes of nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, orange zest, ginger, honey, lightly toasted malt, a touch of pumpkin, and floral and spicy hops. Medium light in body with moderate carbonation. Lots of spices balanced out by a solid maltiness, but the hop presence interfered with some of the flavors. Clean with a bittering finish. Easy to drink and good for a round each season, but not one of the more outstanding pumpkin ales, at least not this year's batch.
