Although the listing of beers on tap at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Portland Oregon seemed relatively limited, considering the range of beers that they produce, I knew that I'd have to try their seasonal Saisson on tap. And I'm glad I did.

The beer poured a clear, dark gold, verging on amber, like a light red ale. I didn't see any cloudiness. The 1/2" pale head lasted a good little while.

I didn't discern any hoppiness to the smell at all. Instead, it had a slightly funky fruityness with perhaps grassy vanilla notes. But no citrus cast, nor traditional hops. This was nothing like an average Budweiser.

The taste was equally slightly funky and fruity, very lightly sweet and malty and slightly bready. It was labelled to have a peppery or spicey character, but that was very minimal in contrast to other beers like witbeirs. Overall it had a very delicate palate, sippable and savory, yet highly quafable. Not overpoweringly funky, like the Belgian sours. Probably more herbal and flowery, like the Belgian tripels.

Although it was smooth, it was not overly thick, with light to medium body. Carbonation quickly disipated, and the funky notes came to the fore as it warmed up, but pleasantly so, increasing the distinct flavor.

A great beer to sip or drink with a meal. Unique flavor and texture. I'd definitely have it again.

A: Beautiful solid gold pour with a nice thin cap of foamy deliciousness on top light lacing to walls of glass.

S: Sweet and sugary with a touch of floral hops aroma in there.

T: First is sweet with a slight change to bitter at the end a slight clove and spicy note on the back end.

M: Medium bodied and slightly chewy nice carbonation level and good feel overall.

O: Very drinkable and would do many growlers of this if I get the opportunity to do so.

Beer is yellow and hazy with a thin bad head with no lacing, low carbonation. looks fine.

Beer has a yeasty almost tea like aroma.

Beer is thin to medium in body, nice sweetness and a little bitterness at the back, a decent finish. Some good yeastiness in there. Overall it's fine but I don't love it.

Pours a slightly cloudy hazy medium yellow color with a skim head which gives way to minimal lacing if any. The aroma is hard to get a touch of lemon and a hint of clove. The taste isn't bad, it has a big lemon bit to it with hints of some spiciness. The lemon really ditracts from any other flavor that is present. A little less lemon might have brought out more of the flavors. The mouthfeel is low to moderate carbonation. The drinkability is okay, you could have a couple, but after that the lemon bite would steer you clear.

"Franco-Belgian farmhouse style ale," served in a snifter.

Pours a clear amber golden with a creamy white head that faded to a thin cap with streaky lacing. Mild aroma, balance of sweet malts and light spice. Flavor is very crisp and dry with a very strong biere de garde style malt and spices body with underlying earthy hops and pear like fruit sweetness. Very enjoyable hybrid of styles with well hidden alcohol.
