Taste: super dry and crisp, cracker like, yeast, floral hops. Mild, citrus, cracker nose. Bright gold, crystal clear, white head some ring lace. Medium body. Appetizer ale. 20 IBUs

Too malty even too sweet. But some nice hop for a saison and the Belgian angle is cool.

Nice orange appearance like all the big boys when it comes to making ipas. Small thin white head 1/4". Seemed like a heady dose of Amarillo dry hops. Impressed already.
Hit all the sweet moreso than bitter citrus vibes. I guess there's lots of sunshine where there is citrus, so this name may be homage to that. I really liked this one. Probably the best "chain" ipa I've ever had. Light malt flavors, not overloaded with heft, doesn't need it because they went with citrus hop flavor moreso than citrus bitterness (grapefruit).

Clear yellow pour with a white foamy head that quickly dissolves to a ring around the glass. The aroma is quite malty with some fruity notes. Bitter grapefruit/mango blast which linger on the tongue for quite awhile. Nice taste. Very thin mouthfeel. Very easy drink which I would like to see bottled in the future. Good stuff and worth the effort to seek out.

Cool little surprise here at the Bistro IPA fest this year. I was pretty far down in my tasting set, many hours in. Why not try a chain beer I thought, cleanse the palate. Wrong.
Good orange appearance, ample dry hopping here. I'm guessing Amarillo was all over this.
Taste was very hoppy, very citrusy in the orange tangerine vibe, but with a relatively low bitterness going for it. Pleasantly surprised. You can't go wrong with a beer with lots of dry hopping and low bitterness with tons of citrus hop mouthfeel. Very easy to drink, stood out after having about a dozen ipas before it. Good call guys.

I must admit that I was frustrated to find that this chain brewpub lists numerous brews called Liquid Sun (Hefeweizen, IPA, Saison, if not others). Not sure what that is all about but they called this a Tripel at the Campbell location a few weeks ago as part of their special beers series. It was a slightly hazy golden colored brew with a modest off-white head and fair traces of lace. The aroma had nice solid lemony citrus hops and banana bread. The flavor offered lots more citrus hops, quite west coast, as advertised. It was bold and bright with about medium body with very minor carbonation and a slick sort of feel. A bit sharp in bitterness with piney orange bread and just a hint of vanilla alcohol. Drinkable enough if you like your hops. A pleasant surprise to get at Rock Bottom's.

A - A pretty, light amber, small tight head, leaves to ring very fast. Some cling lace.
S - Light, Belgian yeast attribute, some hay and citrus.
T - Deep malt aspect, fairly bitter citrus, dominating Belgian yeast.
M - Creamy, coating, good carb, finish lingers a bit too much.
D - Overpowering in the long run, would tire fast.

Anyway, I got some chili as it sounded good and got the Liquid Sun Saison, as I don't recall ever having a Saison style beer before. Not knowing a lot about the style, I immediately thought of a Belgian style brew. The amber-esqe color was nice to look at, but it lacked any head to speak of. There was mostly fruit aromas in this beer, primarily orange and citrus. The taste was similar - fruity citrus, with orange, grapefruit and spice. Not overly powerful, which was refreshing. The mellowness felt good, especially after sitting through 8 hours of training that zonked out my mind. It was a very enjoyable beer and one that I would likely pick up again. The 5.2% ABV makes it a good session beer (i.e. a beer you could have a few of in a single session without getting a little too schnakered for your own good).
Appearance - 3.5/5.0 - No head with a nice amber-esqe color
Smell - 3.5/5.0 - Slightly fruity smell, orange, citrus, hint of malt
Taste - 4.0/5.0 - Distinctly Belgian taste with the spice, orange, grapefruit
Feel - 4.5/5.0 - Mellow, but crisp
Drinkability - 4.0/5.0 - Good beer; flavorful and very enjoyable.

A: Cloudy lemon yellow with a firm white cap. Head retention is above average and a fair amount of lace is left behind.
S: On the mild side, but nice overall. Orange and straw are the most prevalent scents. A small amount of coriander and clove are in the back.
T: Light and refreshing. Starts out with a mild raw wheat flavor. Bitterness hits with a coriander and clove bite. Underneath rides a lemon and orange citrus flavor. Finishes tart and spicy.
M: The body is quite grainy. The carbonation could stand to be a hair lower.
D: This is a very nice late spring offering from Rock Bottom. The light body and relatively low ABV make this an easy drinking beer.

Served on Cask at Papago Brewing; Sampled September 2008
A nice, cascading pattern leads to a creamy, dense, pale head that sits on top of a hazy, orange-amber colored beer. It has a nice spicy aroma that is a bit earthy, with some herbal notes as well as aromatic notes of coriander, phenolic clove, and a woody pepper note.
The beer is not really sweet tasting, but not bone dry either and there is a touch of tartness to the beer that finishes things off. There is a lightly astringent, muted bitterness in the finish as well. This is very smooth feeling when served from the cask and has a nice creamy texture. There is a spicy, earthy flavor here that is a mix of light coriander, woody pepper and smooth clove notes. Fruity flavors are also here, though secondary to the spicy notes, and provide flavors of pear and apple. This is definitely a decent Saison and the cask serving method is most definitely an interesting a worthy try.

Had this beer last night at the Rock Bottom tapping and brought home a growler from which I am reviewing.
A= This brew pours a beautiful hazy dark orange/amber color. The brewer claimed it would clear up a bit with age but I find the color to be glowing and beautiful. The 1/2 inch slightly tan, rocky head quickly diminished to a thin sheen. Not much carbonation release beyond the first minute. Beautiful lacing down the glass.
S= This beer has a muted aroma - very much an English style bitter. You get a hint of the Goldings hops and a tiny bit of malt, but thats about it.
T= Taste is where this ale shines. The hops are present in all their spicy glory, as is a perfect caramel maltiness. A fantastic balance here. The smallest bit of a funny taste (sulfur?) comes out right after the pour, but dissipates within a minute or two - maybe a result of the short aging process.
MF= This is a medium bodied ale. The low carbonation and the lack of any kind of alcohol bite make this a dangerously drinkable beer for the abv.
D= I love this beer and think it is the perfect year round style. Highly recommended!

Appearance - arrives with two fingers of creamy foam, rapidly falling back. A very cloudy, flat, dirty yellow. Lacing is all over the glass.
Aroma - huge yeasty hit. I was expecting more of a Blue Moon, but forget that. This is a very doughy and wheaty version of the Belgian style.
Taste - lots of yeast and clove, edges of banana. A slight medicinal ring to the thing, but overall quite authentic and tasty. The finish is doughy, spicy with all that the Belgian yeast has to impart.
Mouthfeel - Smoooth, as it should be. Subdued carbonation, slippery yet bubbly.
Drinkability - I prefer a little more spice to counter the yeast flavor but it's a good wit just the same. Not my favorite style, but this is tasty.
