Drank at the bar on 5-5-11. Reviewed from notes. This one was just tapped as I walked in. Chalkboard calls it a "poblano-infused blonde."

Color is a filtered golden yellow with moderate carbonation and a fluffy head that sticks around for a bit. Very basic and unassuming.

Aroma is packed with heavy pepper spice. The scent is fresh and exciting, since I rarely get to enjoy a Chile Beer, especially one that smells this natural. Although it is a bit one-note (don't expect malt or hops), it smells exactly like you'd expect and that's pretty reassuring.

Flavor is spicy, like biting into a mild pepper, backed by a light malt and very delicate hopping. It's not as one-note as the aroma, showing touches of buttery malt and a hint of caramel. As it warms, it becomes like a peppery golden ale, making for a refreshing and versatile brew.

The mouth is smooth and inoffensive, exposing the chile flavor only at the conclusion. It doesn't really show much range, but it doesn't have any visible flaws either.

Overall, this is a very solid chile beer that tasted fresh and authentic, avoiding any artificial flavoring that is often found in beers of the type. A nice treat for Cinco de Mayo. (1,193 characters)
