Drank at the bar on 5-25-11. Reviewed from notes. Chalkboard calls it a "crisp German-style Pilsener."
Liquid is a yellow, grainy color. The body is clean with the expected level of carbonation and a small tuft of white head. It's a pretty basic looking pilsener, not really showing off any original characteristics.
Scent of grain, a hint of malt and veggies are in the forefront. I'm picking up a touch of buttery sweetness in the conclusion. Not as prominent as I'd hoped, but not offensive.
Malt is much more present in flavor, as is a buttery crispness, complemented by some oat and yeast. The bitterness lingers into the conclusion. I'd hoped for some hop character and maybe a little sweetness, but none was to be found.
The mouth is crisp with a nice bitterness peaking out in the conclusion, but I couldn't help but feel that this pils was a bit uninspired. Even the name has been done before (see Iron City's Phightin Phils Pils). To be fair, it's nice for the season and easy to drink, but I really wasn't taken by it.
Serving type: on-tap
