My bottle says Brakeman's breakfast stout, Im wondering if this is the same beer? 22 oz bomber courtesy of mgbickel pours a pretty much black color with a massive tan head, even with a gentle pour. Fades uber-slow and leaves a mesa of head in the glass.

Nose is coffee galore, nearing burnt roastiness. My wife says it smells like a diner in the middle of nowhere at 3 in the morning. Cant argue too much with that.

Taste has plenty of coffee alright, almost to the point of vegetal. Could probably use a touch more sweetness and body, though it does go down pretty easy. Mouthfeel is overcarbonated as well, just too many bubbles. Its a bit one-dimensional, but that coffee dimension is pretty tasty...the warmer it gets the better. Thanks Mike!

Another local beer packaged in a 22 oz bottle, bottle conditioned.

Lively brew pours pitch black with a big nougat colored head. Foamy & fluffy up top. Awesome head.

Smells roasted. Very dark. Smooth & relatively non-abrasive. Coffee notes, freshly ground. Sour note.

Grainy crispness up front with dark malts & a coffee-like finish. Smooth roast texture. Hops & roasted flavors work well together. Dark chocolate dryness. Booze tingles the taste buds.

Hops/roasted character carrys this one. Not too heavy and very drinkable, setting aside the ABV which I can only assume is between 6-8%.

A - Color is excellent I found no fault. Look of deep black with no ruby haze so dark and thick. Head is also impressive I get almost an inch of deep mocha head. Head is creamy and sticky.

Smells and Taste are worth noting together. Smells is of strong coffee and this is influenced in the taste but it's not very roasty or bitter it has a level of vanilla like sweetness that gives it a chocolate or cocoa complexity. Finish is excellent so again I found no fault.

M - Medium bodied and not sure the ABV but it drinks great.

Overall this is hands down the best beer these guys have made so far. If bottled I would buy two on the spot and its noting for this coffee lover that this beer is great!

Rock Bottom : Brakeman's Stout

12oz pour, looks a very deep brownish black color. Little in the way of head and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, some char and smoke as well. In the flavor, coffee upfront with a lot of roasted malt flavor and a small vanilla like sweetness. Hops come off as earthy and woodsy, mildly bitter and plays well with the roast. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and quite smooth. Overall, a nice stout, and of moderately high potency.

A - nice and dark with a creamy tan head.

S - coffee grounds up front. A bit of malt and normal stout type thongs on there, but most coffee grounds.

T - coffee and roasted malt. Maybe a undertone of cocoa in the mix.

M - only a medium thickness with a tingle on both sides of the tongue and inside bottom lip.

O - if you don't like coffee you won't like this. I am a coffee hound so I an good to go!
