Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our most popular beer, Märzen (Maert-zen) is a smooth, mildly sweet, auburn colored lager. This beer originated from Bavaria, where it was brewed in March (Marz in German) and stored in caves to be enjoyed during warmer weather. At the end of September, any remaining kegs of Märzen were consumed during the two week celebration which became famous as Oktoberfest. We hope you'll enjoy it year round.

Appearance: Copper colored with a good head and lacing, quite a bit of carbonation.

Smell: Caramel, toffee, bready malts.

Taste: Sweet caramel, toffee, slightly nutty.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and creamy.

The Verdict: Pretty good. A solid malty lager with good flavor. There is not pretense of balance, hoppiness is nowhere to be found. Still, it’s tasty and goes down smooth.

Poured into a .5 liter stein a rich bronze with great clarity a tight well retained 1/2 finger head around with some spot lace left behind.Lightly sweet doughy malt with hints of caramel even a touch of vanilla and anice, full, rich flavors somewhat sweet and caramelly with a sweet doughy quality with hints of scotch whiskey finishing with just a touch herbal/spice.Wow pleasantly suprised I really liked this full flavored marzen beer nice medium body and enough dryness to really enjoy in amounts.

Appearance – Beautiful, light orangish brown in color with a nice head.

Smell – The lightly-toasted malt aroma had an interesting white wine undertone along with sweet sugary notes.

Taste – The flavor was straightforward; lightly-toasted malts laden with caramel.

Mouthfeel – This Marzen was light-bodied but a little too sharp for my tastes. I prefer this style to be a little more well-blended., but otherwise this felt good.

Drinkability – This was a bit off-style but went down nicely.

A - a nice amber color with a thick, foamy white head.

S - an interesting smell to this one. lots of banana and some wheat.

T - some graininess.

M - not too highly carbonated. a bit smooth.

D - I wasn't running back for more, but it's easy to drink. Not bad.

12oz bottle with no freshness date.

Heady start, thin lacing is the end result. Clear copper color. Clean malty bready aroma with some herbal and spicing from the hops. Clean crispness, moderate body. Bready and grassy grain throughout, kiss of sweetness. Hops deliver a balacing bitterness and spicy tone in the end. Finishes a tad dry with a long linger of breadiness.

Top notch. Comparable to the greats from overseas.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a golden orange color with a white head. The aroma is lots of biscuit malt. The flavor is a bready malt with a light hop character. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Decent, nothing spectacular.

Gordon Biersch makes a good marzen beer. It is available all year round at your local Safeway. It is easy to pick out of the crowd with its red label. In my experience the aroma is sweet and the brew looks gorgeous filling up my extra large pint-sized glass.

Amber orange colored with an off-white head that drops quickly. Aroma of bready malt, toffee, and light brown sugar. Flavor is initially doughey malt with medium sweetness, cinnamon, ripe fruit, and some grassy undertones. Moderate mouthfeel, a bit watery upfront but bubbly and very tingly in the finish. Very drinkable, good representation of the style.

Dark brown and amber color with a little yellowish white head. Aroma is dark, not choco nor coffee, can't put my nose/finger on it. Clarity in this dark of a beer somehow.

Taste, bland and boring would be too harsh, but not anywhere near exciting. You know, they roasted a decent amount of malt, little hopping. Unadventurous. Their garlic fries are bomb though. Too expensive for what it is to rate drinkability wise.

On tap at the Atlanta brewpub. Served colder than ideal temperature.

Look: deep amber body with excellent clarity and a creamy tan head.

Aroma: mild mix of malts and hops, with notes of caramel.

Flavor: follows the aroma. Very clean but a bit milder than ideal.

Mouthfeel: near medium body and carbonation. Nicely smooth.

Overall: Compares well to a bunch of Bavarian marzens I have had lately from a Xmas Advent beer calendar.
