Pours a golden yellow, with a nice, foamy head. About two fingers.

The aroma is is of ale. A bit spicy, some wheat.

The taste is incredibly smooth, almost lager-smooth. Gordon biersch knows how to make a good, smooth beer.

The mouthfeel, once again, very smooth.

Drinkability, at the top. I could drink this one all night long.

Enjoyed at the Washington, D.C. brewpub with the brewer on his last day. A good bitterness, a good lace on light yellow. A little creamy. Average mouthfeel, and drinkable on a hot Washington summer day.An average beer, which is better than may attempts others have made at the style.

Had last night on tap at the Big Hunt in DC.

Big fan of the local brou's attempts to try new styles, however, was not crazy about this kolsch.

Perhaps its just a kolsch style issue, but the beer's piss-yellow color and mediocre tastes did not leave much to the imagination. There isnt much flavor to note, but the beer went down quite well, with a nice, even carbonation.

Better luck next time, Gordon Biersch.

We've had a Gordon Biersch restaurant in New Orleans for quite a long while, and I've had a couple of their beers while dining, but never seen a bottle until now.

Pours a deep straw color, not as light as say a macro, but not as deep as some pales. Nice pillowy head adorns the top, two fingers, leaves kinda quick but laces rather nicely.

Smells of a little malt, with some faint floral hops. It's not particularly aromatic.

Tastes very refreshing, light to medium body. This was actually a little heavier than I anticipated. It's not medium bodied, but its far from paper thin. It's good and hearty for the style. Theres some nice citrus hops that bombard you up front and it finishes smooth with a nice malt undertone. It's very well balanced.

A dark beer lover at heart, I've began to appreciate the lighter fare, and this is a solid and wonderfully drinkable beer. Light on the wallet and good to the tummy.

GB Kolsch served on draft in what I would describe as an Americanized version of a straight Kolsch glass, i.e., LARGE, probably 16oz as compared to a Koln Kolsh glass of 0.2 liters.

A This is light colored beer similar to an Am Pils, but with some haze that shouldn't be there in a Kolsch. Thick head to start, but faded. There was a thin layer at mid glass.

S Estery, yeasty aroma. Some tart old fruit there also.

T Clean crisp, nothing really stands out. A little malt above the very low hopping. Clean finish, no off flavors, which is difficult in such a light flavored beer style.

M Light body, good carbonation.

D Very easy to drink. Could drink several of these. Kolsch's are very light in flavor and ingredients, thus making any flavors/aromas seem more apparent than they would in other more robust beers. It is a difficult style to craft.

Tasted on 3/24/04 at R.F.D. (Beer's of the Mid-Atlantic Tasting with Micael Jackson)

Appearance: Bright gold/ straw with a pale white head.

Smell: Fruity grassy aroma, a bit of a yeasty champagne tone as well.

Taste: Crisp and floral, with a dry hoppy finish.

Mouthfeel: Light and refreshing, great summer brew.

Drinkability: Yeah I could drink 2 or 10 of these.

Big 1" head on top of a hazy staw colored beer. SMell and taste are crisp and malty, grassy. Hops give it a nice tang at the end, making it a very refreshing beer. Somewhat sweet, and when combined with the hops tang, makes this beer get a little old when you are approachnig the bottom of the pint. Not bad, though.

Sampled at Gordon Biersch restaurant in Dallas, TX. Pours hazy-golden hue. Aroma is of yeast, some banana and cloves. Body is medium, smooth. Taste is similar to aroma - mostly yeast with some banana and cloves. On the whole, it is not a German hefeweizen, but still not bad.

Tried this for the first time recently and was really impressed with how clean and crisp this beer was. Had it on tap at the brewpub in town it was served in a traditional tall slim glass, it looked at first glance an average beer. The taste however was quite good subtle flavors of the grain and hops that was followed by a subtle sweetness. On that hot july day here in Vegas it was very refreshing and so easy to drink it can be dangerous if your don't watch yourself.

I had a couple of beers at the GB near Gallery Place in DC last week and it's taken me a while to get around to typing out my review notes. The Kolsch was the first of two beers I had that afternoon.

It was brought to me in a tall, slender GB Kolsch mug. I liked the glassware a lot. I'm a firm believer in beer-appropriate glassware. It appeared a slightly cloudy golden straw color, with little-to-no head, surprisingly little carbonation, and virtually no lace. The beer produced a nose of banana and spice. It was quite a malty/fruity bouquet, but one that I would have expected on a weizenbock moreso than this kolsch. Still, it was a nice aroma. The taste was crisp and refreshing. It produced a buttery-malt sensation, but with a nice spicy, dry finish. It smacked of lemon in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel was smooth and dry. I'd say this is a highly drinkable beer for folks trying to beat the DC summer heat, but overall it's nothing special.

A cloudy beer of pale straw color; the ivory head (one finger thick) is lasting. Excellent lace.

The aroma is very pleasant with a "fresh air" smell of freshly mown grass. There is a fresh, floral hop smell as well. (Note: my daughter thought she detected an olive-like smell. I didn't notice it.)

This is an exciting beer. The body and flavor is similar to a pilsner. The hop is fresh and well-blended with full-bodied malt. The carbonation is perfect. The aftertaste is quite dry with a twist of sourness at the end.

OK, I'm shocked. After visiting several brew pubs, this one puts out some surprisingly excellent beers. This may be their best.

App: Pours a darker straw color with very good head and good lacing. It looks mighty tempting.

Smell: Pretty standard kolsch aroma; a little fruity intermingling with some classic german hops.

Taste: Pretty complex for a kosch. I picked up a standard light maltiness on the forefront followed by a warm nuttiness. The hops came through on the aftertaste balancing out the beer, but not taking control. Very well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and crisp, but maybe a little fuller bodied than I expected. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, but only in the slightest way and just enough to make it interesting sip after sip.

This was a very drinkable beer, and a perfect summer offering. It's refreshing and interesting and I would session it like a monster if it was more available to me.

Enjoyed this beer very much…I am a big fan of lagers, and like to see micros work on these as well.
Appearance-Bright yellow, looked very similar to German brews I have had overseas
Smell-Bright and beer like, minimal floral, which I like
Taste-Crsip and refreshing, went well with my food
Mouthfeel- I am a novice on this, so unless it does something weird, i'll call it good
Overall- 4 out of 5, Outstanding, will order it often

Served chilled in a sample cup at the RFD Michael Jackson Beer Tasting.

Appearance: Crystal clear straw yellow topped by a smallish white head that dissipated to a film and a ring, leaving small fingers of lace clinging to the plastic.

Smell: Lightly herby and floral aromas of noble hops. Faint whiffs of pale malts.

Taste: Very bready malt flavors with lightly grassy and peppery hop flavors on the finish. Faint lingering banana esters on the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Very light in body with a crisp finish. Snappy and peppy.

Drinkability: Quite drinkable and very easygoing. A great session beer. A wee bit aggressive on the grassy and bready flavors, though.

Gordon Biersch Kolsch, ontap at the restaraunt.

Appearance: Light pale gold with a large bone white pillowy head and some lacing going down the sides of the glass. Pretty good stickage.

Smell: Pungent Euro hop aroma with some soft grains underneath.

Taste: Grainy flavors met by a slight bitterness. Muted sweet notes and a crisp dry finish. Grassy hops.

Drinkability: A solid kolsch and one that would pair well with more delicate dishes. Spot on for style, this was a nice beer.

The Sommerfest Kolsh is the summer special seasonal. It is served in a large .51 L Kolsch style straight glass.

The beer is a hazy gold with a fluffy and clingy white head. It is a very good looker.

The aroma is a bit underpowered. Malts and hints of pears.

The taste tracks closely to the smell. It is slightly sweet, a bit crisp with grains adding most of the flavor. It could use a bit more of that pear and apple taste that many kolschs have.

The mouth is pleasant and smooth with just a bit of carbonation bite at the finish.

Easy enough drinker, could be a good intro to the style or as a cross over.
Glad to see GB take a stab at this as I think this is an under represented and underappreciated style!

This beer was a slightly hazy light gold/dark yellow color with a small white head that left trace lace as it subsided. An aroma of hops and malt with some yeast/grain present as well. The flavor was of hops and some malt with bready aspect to it. The finish was light and a touch doughy. An alright beer and not really my style.

This was the seasonal offering at Honolulu's Gordon Biersch in the Aloha Tower. It poured an extremely pale and cloudy yellow, an almost disconcerting color. It left slight lacing on the glass. Faint aromas of wheat, light citrus, and bread. I thought it tasted dirty -- sharp citrus bite before the swallow fades into an unpleasant yeasty finish that's too bitter for what should be a crisp style... Surprising as GB specializes in smooth lagers. Thin and fizzy with no crisp finish, this beer is nevertheless easy to guzzle on a hot day. Poor showing.
