Draft pint, served in a logoed glass.
One of the Brewmaster's Choices / seasonals at the San Jose location.
Dark golden color with a solid white head, thin lines of lace.
Sweet, malty aroma, minimal hop smell.
The flavor is also on the sweeter side, malty, caramel.
Smooth mouth feel, alcohol seems well hidden. Good carbonation, thin body.
Ok, but wanted a bit more flavor.

Poured from a longneck into a shaker. A moderate pour produces a billowing 1.5 inch frothy, white head that dissipates into a continuous sheen that sticks around pretty well. The beer is a pale copper color ("strawberry blonde"), crystal clear, and with light carbonation.

A very delicate floral hop aroma is apparent, along with a little DMS. The flavor could be described as snappy, with a decent hit of spice and some citrus to balance out the grain or cracker-like malt base. The body/mouthfeel is very moderate, with some lingering frothiness. A little bit of alcohol warming is apparent, to accentuate the spice and herbal notes.

The beer goes down easy and is just light enough to make it a bit dangerous as a session beer. It strikes me as an excellent example of a light bodied beer with some complex flavors and an alcohol bite, which is just what you want in a bock.

According to the brewery's website, I should not be able to buy this beer within a hundred miles of where I live, but I actually bought a six pack at Front Street Market in Butte, Montana. It was 7-something a six pack on sale.
