Pours a light golden straw color with perfect clarity which has an ample head of fine white bubbles which are relatively long lasting.

The aroma of malt with some hoppy background.

The flavor is acidic and grassy, which perfectly fits the description of the a Check Pilsner. I don't get the hops, mostly becasue I perfer the US Micro brewed big hop beers.

Not my favorite beer, or even in my top 500, but it is a decent Check Pilsner.

(Served in a wide-mouthed pint glass)

A- This beer has a warm but very light copper-yellow hue that is crystal clear with a good carbonation of big bubbles racing through it. There is a thin sticky snow-white head that last for a few sips and then is gone.

S- This beer has a very clean nose with some hint of sulfury hop bitterness coming through when the beer warms. There is a soft tap water note or corn hint but it is very light.

T- The big sulfury taste blends into a nice Kolsh sweetness then a dry pale malt comes through. There is a big dandelion hops bitterness at the finish with some bitterness lingering after each sip.

M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a dry finish.

D- The nice subtle Kolsh flavors of sweet sulfur like licorice hints are overpowered by bitterness and start masking all the other flavors.

Enjoyed on tap at the Washington, DC location. Saaz hop bitterness, not quite, near metallic. Medium yellow, a caesar crown of white and lace. Medium mouthfeel. Off bitterness that makes it not all that drinkable.Under-average beer, but hey you need a pilsner in a standard lineup.

A - light straw color

S - mix of grass and grain, more so as it warmed up a tad

T - a little hoppier than I would have expected but after a couple of sips the hoppiness faded some

D - I guess it's an ok pils and it was fairly drinkable but since I am a HUGE pils fan I was somewhat disappointed.

certainly will not seek out...but what's funny is as I have been writing this review it's already starting to taste better

This was poured very nicely into a GB Becker, raising an off white two finger head, over a translucent, hazy bright gold body. The head falls quickly, though, to a glass ring. Neads longer head retention and better clarity. The nose is almost nothing to speak of, just a little malt. Not bad, just not there. Taste is a bit better, with nice edelhopfen cleanliness, but I feel that they didn't stick to just noble hops. It's pretty dry, not as balanced as it could be. I don't think the malts used are not up to snuff, either. Mouthfeel is just what I expect, though not sublime. A nice drinker, but missing some points, and thus average.

On-tap at the brewery.

Pours a clear gold color with a one-finger bright white head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of light pilsner malts with hints of grassy and herbal hops. As it warms substantial amounts of diacetyl waft out.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Straight off the tap it's not bad with pilsner malt backed by light noble hop flavors, but as it warms it becomes too buttery for my liking. Ending is mildly bitter.

Mouthfeel is good. It has a decent thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is just not that good. I didn't finish the glass and wouldn't order another.

Overall I hope this was just a bad batch but chances are I won't be visiting again anytime soon to see for myself.

Classic pilsener look: Golden straw color, bright white two finger head, nice lacing.

Aroma is pleasant. Lightly sweet malty nose, with juts of herbal hops.

Lightly bitter, herbal, spicy hops, with some sweet malt tones. Not bad at all.

The feel is decent, sort of slick, could be crisper and more refreshing.

Overall, a fairly standard Czech Pils worthy to have as a stand by on a hot day.

On-tap at the San Jose locale, on to the beer:

Orangish colored, almost leaning into copper. Solid foam sits on top of the beer, which retains solidly and leaves a little lace. The nose is a dissapointment. It offers some cider and grass, the former which leaves me scratching my head. It does get better. Cooked cereals in the taste (crap!). But seriously, it's a small improvement over the cider, and with a sharp hop bitterness and honey to distract, it's not the worst Czech-style lager I've put into my body. The body is boderline light/medium with a low level of crispness.

It's okay. Then again, the San Jose locale also had an export lager that I tasted awhile back with a similar cooked cereal problem. I hope it's an isolated problem.

Ba Review #154
Served On: 04/13/2012
Glassware: Rolling Rock Pilsner Glass
Labeled ABV: -
Date/ Code: 2/12/12

This was in the 2012 spring mixed 12 pack from Evergreen Liquors in Frederick ($14.99).

look: Poured a very clear and effervescent pale yellow. Head was 1/2 finger of white foam. The head reduced down to a thin coating within seconds.

Smell: The nose was a bland malty note with some faint aroma hops. That was about it.

Taste: First was the bland malts. Then a quick burst of citrus. Finish was fairly clean with a nice bitterness.

Overall this is probably one of the better Pilsners I’ve had. It's nothing real exciting, but that’s to be expected with the style.
