This was poured very nicely into a GB Becker, raising an off white two finger head, over a translucent, hazy bright gold body. The head falls quickly, though, to a glass ring. Neads longer head retention and better clarity. The nose is almost nothing to speak of, just a little malt. Not bad, just not there. Taste is a bit better, with nice edelhopfen cleanliness, but I feel that they didn't stick to just noble hops. It's pretty dry, not as balanced as it could be. I don't think the malts used are not up to snuff, either. Mouthfeel is just what I expect, though not sublime. A nice drinker, but missing some points, and thus average.

This presents a clear golden color, with maybe a hint of orange. Nice frothy white head sits on top and lingers for a while, leaving a few spots of lace. Not much aroma from the pale malt, however there is a good amount of floral, spicy, and a bit grassy hops. The malt character is slightly sweet and dry, plae, and goes well with the spicy, flowery hop flavor. very clean and crisp. The hop bitterness seems almost perfect in this. Czech lagers are best fresh, and this really shows why. Light body, with a refreshing amount of carbonation. Very solid.

Golden copper color in the glass, big white head, some lacing down the glass. Smell is lagery clean, with a hint of hops. Taste is the big surprise here. More hops than I expected in a pilsener, more like APA levels here, but the rest of the beer is more subdued like you'd expect in the style. Light mouthfeel, finishes well on a dry, hoppy note. Drinkable.

Brought to the table a lovely straw-color with a finger of bubbly head. Smelled of hops and spices - cloves, maybe? Hops and spices assault the tongue on light malty undertones, definetely saaz hops. Overly bitter aftertaste, takes away from the good inital impression. Good pilsner, but nothing special. Couldn't drink more than a couple, a little too hoppy and spicy for my likings in a pilsner, but overall above average.

I hed this at the Columbus OH location. Great beer. Not Czechvar, but close. Smooth and easy to drink. Very refreshing. I really enjoyed this. The hops (Saaz?) and malt are balanced just right for this style. I was told by the manager that this beer was going on tap year round, not just a seasonal.

Tasted on-tap 12/27/05 at the GB brewpub in Tyson's Corner, VA.

Nice clear light gold color with a full white head and nice carbonation. Aroma leans more malty than hoppy for the style in my mind. Malty grain flavor with a nice crisp hoppy balance but certainly not as strong as the style calls for. Medium bodied.

Very refreshing and sessionable but not quite on par with Czechvar or P.U.

More amber than a typical pilsner would offer (golden, not straw). Nice head with spotty lace.

Very little aroma--predominately malt. I can't find the hop. The taste matches this: the hop is light, showing up as a counter-melody to the stronger malt. I like the body and carbonation.

This is certainly superior to the mass-produced American "pilsners". Still, in the USA, I believe that Brooklyn and Saranac produce far superior versions.

Appearance – This one came out a beautiful, fluffy-looking light yellow in color and was just gorgeous. It had a full, fluffy head as well that showed great retention and left tons of lacing on the inside of my glass.

Smell – The aroma here was soft in nature with the typical hop notes of the style. There is what seems to be the traditional GB “whiney” character as well. Overall, the nose was delicate and very inviting.

Taste – This is a very complex Pils. The beer is soft on the pallet but sharp, if that makes any sense. The traditional Czech Pils flavors are all present and accounted for. This is as good as it gets in the United States.

Mouthfeel – This ale was medium-bodied but fluffy. The carbonation was mild but seemed to expand in the mouth producing that much-desired “puffy cheek” feeling. I thought that the mouthfeel was this Pils’ strong point.

Drinkability – IMO, there’s no greater session beer than a good Pilsner, and this one fit the bill. This was hands down the best American effort at this tremendously difficult style.

Comments – I have only rated one American effort at the Czech Pilsner higher than 3.0 overall (3.1) until now. Don’t dismiss this one out-of-hand. Take it from a guy who has sucked down many a good European Pils – this is the real deal.

Clear golden colored beer with a middle sized puffy white colored head.

Smells malty with a flowery hop aroma. Soda cracker malt with noble hops somewhat grassy it also smells a little sweet.

Starts out mildly sweet and a little bitter. Slightly grassy this has a sharper hop bite than expected. and that is about it, sort of boring.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall an OK beer.

From GB Rockville.

Rich golden color, very nice clarity. Poured a moderate white head with little retention, but could have been my wimpy pour from the growler.

Very clean hop aroma with some pepper notes, and maybe a slight malty sweetness.

Wonderful malt presentation up front just before the hops begin to take hold. Always enjoy a pilsner that shows some malt. Wonderful spicy, almost peppery flavor from the hops. Hops take it to the bitter side of balanced, but the bitterness isn't overpowering. Finish is gently bitter and clean. Beer appears to have been well lagered.

Medium body and moderately high carbonation. No harshness to the beer - very easy drinking.

Nice to see what fresh, well made pilsner tastes like. Hop character is top notch, and it is a clean, easy drinking beer with no rough edges.

Appearance: Bright gold with a quickly disappearing head and a touch of carbonation.

Smell: Indistinct malts and hops. Basically, it smells like beer.

Taste: Hops and cereal malts.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a slight hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

The Verdict: Not bad. My descriptions may not sound exciting, but this is pretty much what a pils should be. Nothing above and beyond, but nothing to fuss about either. Just a good solid beer.

A - Pours a light golden/copper color with finger thick head. Not much lacing.

S - Hop and malt scent. Pretty pungent.

T - Light hop bitterness with malt on the finish, also hints of citrus. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

M - Feels light in the mouth. Not too much carbonation, goes down easy.

O - Not a big pilsner drinker but I didn't mind this one. I don't have much to compare it to, but I wouldn't mind drinking it again. I probably wouldn't pick up a six pack of it, though. If you try it don't expect a world class beer, but its nothing bad.

Look-This beer poured a brilliant gold. It had a fat head of at least 3 fingers, the lacing was not as expected kind of light.
Smell-Grassy, sweet, pine is what I got.
Taste- The pils malts are really good. Hits up front and on the lips for a long time afterwards. But its cut through with a good hoppy taste. It reminds me of a caramel apple for some reason. It leaves a sour taste to me.
Mouthfeel- It is SUPER drinkable. Carbonation is great, hard to improve on that aspect of the beer. I could drink a bunch of these and not get tired of them.
Overall- Great session beer, not tops in terms of pushing any limits on brewing. Staying classic while breaching new frontiers is a hard act to balance but Gordon Biersch is doing exactly that!

Got this one at the SLS in Cedar City

Pours a very nice clean/clear golden yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a two-finger foamy white head, with some very nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, nice little hop note. The taste is mostly malty, with some hop notes. Medium body, the finish is slightly dry and bitter. Overall a nice brew for a hot day, but would not buy again.

12 oz brown bottle with pry off cap poured in a miscellaneous glass in our rented condo at Turtle Bay, Oaho, Hawaii. Purchased at Foodland on the North Shore.

Clear, pale golden yellow. Bright white head is 1/2 inch on the pour. Sporadic lines of lace here and there.

Aroma of noble hops. Herbal and floral. A little biscuit In the background.

Light grainy sweetness with some herbal hops off the start transforms into a floral/herbal hop bitter finish. Pretty straight forward and un-complex.

Light bodied. A little harsh mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation.

This is ok, but nothing special. Pretty average. Not soft enough in the mouthfeel or crisp enough.

12 ounce bottle -> World Market Flute

This beer pours up a light gold with a small head which has more staying power than the average porn star. Lacing is present. I really don't get much from the nose, maybe some grasses. Taste is mild but decent. It has a smooth lemony giving way to a mild bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is nice with adequate carbonation. Not too shabby. Not world class, but very enjoyable!!!

Pours a clear light copper color with a thin head that slips from the glass to the drink with each sip. Very crisp, clean aroma. Peanut and almond mix with cracked barley. Yeast is present as well, coming across pungent but light. The pungent, slightly sour yeast starts and ends things in the taste department. It mellows out in the middle with wheat bread flavor and brazil, walnut, and almond nuttiness. Turns flowery/nectary then bitter, but bitterness is gentle. The yeast sits at the back of the tongue, reminding you to have another sip. Feel is thin, finish is slightly sweet.

This is a solid, tasty Pils. I would look for a stronger nuttiness and a little more malt in the flavor in an ideal world, but I could drink this all day.

A small white head settles into a thin lacing above a clear golden copper colored beer with decent carbonation.

Light caramel malts, with light spices, some very light apple cider, with a slight hops aroma.

Light spices, some floral hops with light caramel malt taste that seems very well balanced between those and other hints of tastes trying to come through.

A lighter dryish aftertaste that seems to stick around a while on this light bodied beer.

With it's taste that seems to be well balanced with nothing really taking over, I kind of enjoyed this beer that is well outside my dark beers and IPA's taste.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into my pint glass. This beer pours a clear, medium golden color with a nice fluffy white head about 2/3 inch thick when poured that eventually settles to a nice thick ting lining the inside of the glass. Not much lacing here. Aromas of herbal hops and a nice malt presence. Has a light bready, somewhat caramel malt sweetness flavor upfront that gives way to a floral hop bitterness flavor. Also a big of grassyness. Good balance of sweet malt and hop bitterness here. Has a crisp, medium bodied mouthfeel with low to moderate carbonation. Has a clean and dry finish. Easy to drink in the way a beer like this should be. Practically spot on for the style too. A very good, solid beer here!

Purchased: Single from Publix, Huntsville

A: Big white head fills the top of my pilsner glass, showing good retention and very good lacing. The beer is a clear, golden color with lots of bubbles seen coming up from the bottom.

S: Aromas are a good balance of bready malt smells and noble hop floral, grassy notes. I also get a slight fruit/lemon aroma.

T: Clean taste features a light to medium hop bitterness coupled with malt breadiness. I do get a little bit of sourness as an off flavor, but it is not a big detraction.

M: Moderately carbonated and crisp as a pilsner lager should be. Aftertaste is lightly bitter.

O: Overall I thought this was an easy drinking, warm weather pilsner. Nothing earth shattering but a good summertime thirst quencher.

Glass - Pilsner

A - Golden colored brew with lots of visible carbonation, high clarity, and a 2-finger head that created a little volcano on the top. Head retention seems great for a Lager. Some nice lacing as well.

S - Apple/pear skin upfront. Lemon and leafy hop notes. Cracker malt notes. Grassy throughout. Simple and clean.

T - Apple/grape/pear upfront. Very grassy mid-finish. Finishes with soft cracker, dryness, low bitterness, and leafy hop characteristics.

M - Lite-medium bodied, medium-high crispness, a bit oily from the hops.

O - I think this is a decent Pilsner. It's refreshing, no off flavors, and the price is perfect. Nothing outstanding about it but I'd pick it up again to toss back at parties. Worth a try. Cheers!

Appearance - Pours a semi-clear golden yellow with a white 2 finger head. Decent retention, but the resulting lace is spotty though everpresent.

Smell - Picking up faint aromas of caramel, grain and some floral or grassy hops.

Taste - Starts with some light bread and caramel malts, then a little grain and some floral hops come into play. Aftertaste turns to a grassy bitterness which fades steadily.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body. goes down like silky butter. Carbonation is a tad lacking, but the buttery smoothness more than makes up for it.

Overall - For a pilsner, this is damn good. Light enough to drink on a hot summer day, but full and flavorful enough to satisfy an ale aficionado such as myself.

Ba Review #154
Served On: 04/13/2012
Glassware: Rolling Rock Pilsner Glass
Labeled ABV: -
Date/ Code: 2/12/12

This was in the 2012 spring mixed 12 pack from Evergreen Liquors in Frederick ($14.99).

look: Poured a very clear and effervescent pale yellow. Head was 1/2 finger of white foam. The head reduced down to a thin coating within seconds.

Smell: The nose was a bland malty note with some faint aroma hops. That was about it.

Taste: First was the bland malts. Then a quick burst of citrus. Finish was fairly clean with a nice bitterness.

Overall this is probably one of the better Pilsners I’ve had. It's nothing real exciting, but that’s to be expected with the style.

Part of the mixed winter 12 pack. I enjoyed this Pils, it had the right amount of dryness to the finish combined with a hoppy nose and solid mouthfeel. Better than the lagers available in Maui (Kona,Maui Brewing)as it had more complexity. I can get this in BC and probably will pick some up for the Summer.
