a great summery saison, the second ive had from hopfenstark, and definitely the better of the two. this is mostly clear golden to honey colored with an inch or so of white had that doesnt fade at all. it has a familiar smell, clean fresh wheat malt and a mellow saison yeast that adds more grassy flavors than the usual funk and spice characteristics. the flavor starts of like the smell, very light and almost dainty, the finish is the best part, ultra clean and quick finish, but with a pronounced lemon zest and a bold frothy creamy texture and flavor that is both unique to the style and supremely delicious. i like this a lot better than the 55, i think its more distinct, more drinkable, and a little more approachable for the new saison drinker. maybe i would like a little more yeast character in this, but its hard to argue with it, given how darn refreshing and yummy it is. in need of very little refining, this is exceptional saison for summer weather.

750ml Bottle from Marche Omni QC for $8 - listed at 6.5% ABV
Appearance - Clear yellow colour with an average size white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 2-3 minutes before it was gone. There are a few small chunks floating around.
Smell - Apples, corn, breads/grains, yeast, banana
Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, corn and apples. There is also some bread/grains/yeast and a bit of banana an clove.
Overall - Very drinkable and somewhat muted flavour wise. There are a variety of flavours but none really stand out above each other. A decent brew.

On tap at Vices & Versa.
Pours a pale gold champagney colour, head is white and foamy. A bit thin but nice lace ring left around the glass. Pretty good.
Grassy, banana esters on the nose, mild funk and mild vinegar. Not bad.
Taste is banana again, lots of wheat beer notes, sweet and slight vinous character through to the mid and onto the back. Maybe slight organic bitterness, but nowhere near enough funk for calling it a saison.
Bit of booze warmth, slight sizzle. Not great.
Nowhere near enough barnyard or organic character for a saison. Tastes rather like a heavy hefeweizen. I also don't really get the whole high-alcohol saison thing. Disappointing beer.

Interesting saison. Love the nose on this one. Flavor is mildly sweet with a firm tone of earthy and grassy in the mix. Mild somewhat lactic thing going on as well. Very floral. Carbonation is slightly full. Very easy to drink. Could go for many of these without thinking about it.
