Bottle from ZorPrime, thanks Eric! Shared with the gang, into a tulip.

Gusher initially, though I think that's attributed more to it's inability to settle from getting banged around in my bag for the better part of the day. Nonetheless, poured a golden brown with two fingers of white head that falls to a nice thick collar. Unfiltered. Nose has a whole bunch of funk/farmhouse-iness, hints of tart fruit, orange, citrus rind, some spicing and generally pungent thorughout. Taste has more of the funkiness from the nose, tart lemon and orange notes, unripe green apples. Spritzy mouthfeel, spicy with a bit of 'bite' to it. Almost gueuze-like in some aspects, oddly and interestingly enough. Refreshing, interesting, funky and fruity.

funky canadian saison probably more in line with the biere de garde style than anything else. my bottle says 6.5% abv, and the color on this is quite nice, a rusty looking light orange color, burnt sugar aromatic, but still behind all the yeast. haven't had a ton of french canadian stuff, so i appreciate this. it has a distinctly canadian flare, with a more robust malt body, i even taste some rye in here i think, lots of body too. something real sturdy about this, despite its massive carbonation level. heavy grain intensity in the flavor, as much imparted as the yeast for sure. if theres nor the in here, theres some other curious malt that i would like to know a while lot more about. the yeast is only minimally fruity, but i get some hops, bitter and piney, which really works with the bigger grain profile and adds to it canadian essence. good saison for winter, big enough for cold weather, but light enough to hammer a 750ml no problem. my first beer from these guys, i would like to try others, but you just never seem them on shelves out here in colorado. nice take on the saison style, a little more hefty than most, versatile and yummy.

750ml Bottle from Marche Omni QC for $8 - listed at 6.5% ABV

Appearance - Clear yellow colour with an average size white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 2-3 minutes before it was gone. There are a few small chunks floating around.

Smell - Apples, corn, breads/grains, yeast, banana

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, corn and apples. There is also some bread/grains/yeast and a bit of banana an clove.

Overall - Very drinkable and somewhat muted flavour wise. There are a variety of flavours but none really stand out above each other. A decent brew.

On tap at Vices & Versa.

Pours a pale gold champagney colour, head is white and foamy. A bit thin but nice lace ring left around the glass. Pretty good.

Grassy, banana esters on the nose, mild funk and mild vinegar. Not bad.

Taste is banana again, lots of wheat beer notes, sweet and slight vinous character through to the mid and onto the back. Maybe slight organic bitterness, but nowhere near enough funk for calling it a saison.

Bit of booze warmth, slight sizzle. Not great.

Nowhere near enough barnyard or organic character for a saison. Tastes rather like a heavy hefeweizen. I also don't really get the whole high-alcohol saison thing. Disappointing beer.

Interesting saison. Love the nose on this one. Flavor is mildly sweet with a firm tone of earthy and grassy in the mix. Mild somewhat lactic thing going on as well. Very floral. Carbonation is slightly full. Very easy to drink. Could go for many of these without thinking about it.

Last half of the bottle. Cloudy peach juice. Nice marshmellow head, great retention. A few floaties.

Yeasty. Almost hefe-like with some nice banana-bubble-gum notes. Different, but really quite nice. Hard to explain, certainly Belgian, but has a kind of German character to it.

Rye really (perhaps obviously) stands out in this one. Peppery spice throughout. Pronounced yeast contributes some nice light fruit. Get the bubble-gum again in the finish, perhaps my favourite part of this one.

Mouthfeel is really great. Light taste, but feels quite substantial. True to style. A very nice saison.

From notes...

A - Pours a hazy golden colour with an orange hue, finger of head with some retention and sporadic lacing.

S - Peppery spice, grainy notes, saltine crackers, toasted bread, citrus notes and a touch of fruity yeast esthers.

T - The peppery notes and rye dominate with a solid fruity yeast flavour that comes through alongside some bready notes, the toasted crackers, grassy hops, sugared grains and a bitter rye flavour that lingers.

M - Medium bodied, smooth, creamy and a touch of dryness on the finish.

O - A solid Saison that offers up a peppery spiciness making for a memorable brew. Nicely balanced and incredibly easy drinking. Well worth seeking out if you find yourself in La Belle Province!

750ml into a tulip. Pours a mid hazed orange amber, minor white head, minor lacing.

Aroma is yeasty, spicy and fairly sweet. Citrus with some mustiness if you reach but not particularly saisony but very nice none the less.

The flavor as well has significant orange and tropical fruit. Grains and a strong phenolic note. Quick dry and peppery cusp that intros the grassy herbal aftertaste that lingers a tad too long at first. With warmth it evolves much better as the herbal recedes and fruits come forward. Nearly medium wet grit body.

Bottled June 2012. Thanks to Papat444 for the bottle!

Beer is a clear golden colour. Vigorous pour results in a smallish white head. Fades to a film fairly quickly.

Smell is quite yeasty, with a citrus (orange), pear and apple scent accompanying.

Taste also has a bunch of yeast, the same citrus, pear and apple flavour. Spices, and a spicy component that tastes like rye. Fairly dry. A slight funky tartness and a bit of a herbal flavour. Aftertaste is a bit soapy.

Light to medium bodied, low carbonation. Feels a bit thin.

Overall, pretty good. Not the best Hopfenstark saison I have had but tasty.
