Not sure if this time around it's been played with because what I had was not representative of anything written in the last reviews.

Appearance, cloudy with a pink hue. Looked like grapefruit juice.
Smell, Strong raspberry presence slightly lemony

This brew tasted like I wanted it to. Very very tart, ripe raspberries and not overly acidic.

It's been a while since the last review so my guess it that they played with the recipe because I thought this was a nice example of the style.

Can definitely drink this all day.

Ho.st Berlin Alexander platz epilogue Berliner Weiss 3.8

Decent fizzy head hits fairly high but fades very quickly to nothing, murky peach color.

Nose sour notes, mineral and chalky notes, soured fruits, little peach and generic stone felt, mild creamy grainy wheat, big kumquat, little soured wheat.

Taste brings big sour tart fruit, tangy, decent acidity, with more kumquat, almost citrus but not quite, faint raspberry, with soured creamy wheat that seems a bit watered down. Finish is quite tart with more kumquat lingering, light sour wheat and sticky flemmy mild acidity.

Mouth is lighter bod, decent but lighter carb.

Overall decent, fair sour like wheat and fruits, defect acidity, nice kumquat, raspberry is a bit to muted, enjoyable.

On tap at Volo during Zwanze Day.

Beer is peach-coloured and totally opaque. No head. Very unusual appearance.

Nose is tart, with lacto and yogurt. The raspberry is there but not too strong. Nice.

Taste is sour, raspberry is there. Lactobacillus is notable. Lots of lemon, quite sour. Raspberry is nicely understated- it provides a nice flavour without taking over the beer.

Light bodied, moderate carbonation level. Tart and refreshing.

Overall, very nice. Not sure if there has been a modification to this beer over time, but I am very surprised by the low reviews.

appearance- slightly cloudy light yellow.

nose- clean, lemony, very little in the way of hops or malty sweetness. its just clean and light.

taste- lemon tartness predominates with just a hint of raspberries. its tart and puckering lemon all the way through to a clean finish that hangs on your tongue quite a while.

mouthfeel- puckering tartness.

overall- too much like a lemon drop for my personal taste but in my very limited experience its true to the style. lemony and tart. refreshing if not quite quaffable for me.

I had this on-tap at Max's. Served in a sample glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy reddish golden color with a layer of white head that goes away.

Smell: Sweet with tart raspberries. The smell is rather mild.

Taste: This is a really tart beer. The finish is lemony. I'm picking up some raspberry and yeast as well. Fairly light.

Mouthfeel: The body is on the thin side with tingly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: Tastes better than the regular version. The fruity, tart finish is really good. I was surprised to see the terrible reviews, oh well. Different strokes for different folks.

One of the beers we wanted to try at LO.

A - Pretty dark, almost opaque, brown beer with some purple in it. Left some random splothes and stick on the sides.

S - Has some raspberry aroma to it, but this doesn't smell very good. Grainy, with weird herbal and bile notes to it.

T - Not a good tasting beer either. Not much raspberry, although it is there. Has some random yeast and toasted notes, little grass. Not really sure what this is supposed to be, but not what I want from a berliner weiss.

M - Medium bodied with some pretty active carbonation.

O - Not a good beer as far as smell and taste goes. Yeah, so basically this is just not a good beer. Don't buy it.

On-tap at Local Option. It's the Berlin Alexanderplatz with raspberries.

A - Big white foam leaves behind splotchy lace and a thick persistent cap. Murky dark purple-brown body - guessing they didn't filter out those raspberries too much.

S - Grain, some raspberries, green herbal notes, hint of vomit, and a strange glue-like note. Not particularly lactic, and somewhat off- putting; the glue reminded me of Barrel-Aged Baumé.

T - Taste isn't quite as bad, with has less in the way of raspberry flavor. Mostly a generic yeast quality, with some inexplicable altbier-like flavors - fruity yeast, bitter nuts, and toasted bread, as well as some phenolic character. The raspberries make a brief appearance at the back end.

M - Zesty carbonation, and a surprisingly hefty body for 3.5% ABV. Sticky texture, with plenty of residual syrupy juice character to it.

D - Not sure how this is a Berliner - I didn't pick up nearly any lactic character, sourness, or acidity. Drank more like a Raspberry Altbier with some kind of brettanomyces infection. The low alcohol made it easier to drink than some other bad beers, but I wouldn't even recommend making the initial purchase.
