First of a special series, this is another uncommon beer from Hopfenstark. True Belgian esters from Abbey yeast, a lot of malt and body without any alcohol taste and some grape flavor.

On-tap at Station Ho.St in Montreal

Beer is amber/copper in colour. Moderately-sized beige head, which fades steadily. Good lacing.

Not a big nose, but nice. Apple and other fruits. Bready scents.

Flavour contains yeast and sweet bready malts. A fair bit of caramel- unusual for the style. Some light fruits, but a little hard to peg. I get apple, perhaps some peach and berries? Grape? Despite the fruit flavours, the beer is not sweet. A bit of a wood taste as well. but I don't think the beer has ever seen any wood.

Full bodied, low to moderate carbonation. A bit heavy but nice.

Overall, quite good. My initial reaction was less positive, but this one grew on me as I drank it. Nice stuff.

On-tap at Local Option. Served in a goblet.

A - Thick white cap, with splotchy lacing. Mostly transparent dark orange body.

S - Mild tropical note - is there brett in here or this just really estery? Spicy and phenolic notes from the yeat as well, with bubblegum, orange, and light honey flavors.

T - A very sweet Belgian Strong here, with stone and tropical fruits, bubblegum, and a mildly vinous grape finish. Light pepper from the yeast, as well as the characteristic tangy sourdough finish.

M - Medium-full body, with pleasant carbonation. Dry finish, and extremely well-hidden alcohol.

D - I enjoyed this quite a bit, as the intense fruitiness balanced out the more typical Belgian yeast flavors. It's a bit too intense to drink quickly and often, but I'd order it again, even at $9.

Draft: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a large foamy head with good retention. Aroma consists of lightly sweet malt with fruity ester and tropical fruity hops. Taste is a good mix between some lightly sweet Belgian style malt with fruity ester and some hops with tropical fruits notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I quite enjoyed this one and really like the hops profile and the ester produce by the yeast.

On-tap at "Soirée des Grands Crus" Microbrasserie du Siboire, Sherbrooke (QC), Candada. 9.5% ABV.

A - Pours an off-white, creamy head with a medium retention, leaving a nice lacing on the glass. Red color with copper hue, quite hazy.

S - Dominated by spices, caramel, malty and boozy notes. Yeast is also present.

T - Bourbon, caramel, and malty notes up front. Nice fruity flavor in the middle. I pick out some grapes and caramelized apples. Hop finishes the experience with a good bitter bite at the end.

M - Good carbonation, lingering on the palate. Semi-dry finish.

O - A good balance and an excellent drinkability make an interesting brew I would recommend to anyone!

On tap at Max's today.

The beer pours a copper amber color with very good head retention and lots of sticky lacing all around. The nose is unusual and intriguing, with light rootbeer, celery salt, and sweet malt. The flavor profile is also pretty exotic, as I get considerable malt, chocolate, rootbeer and vanilla. The beer is a bit boozy as well, which along with the beer's sweetness, detracts a bit from its drinkability. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, with a soft, almost creamy finish.

Interesting beer, though it's hard to imagine drinking a whole lot of this stuff.
