Hay colored body with some haze with an average head and little lace. It has a very straw grassy smell. It has an adjunct taste but no different than a lot of beers on the market. For the most part it is amazingly average. Thin body with a bit of a crisp bite.

Served in a bottle at Meskerem in New York, NY

A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden yellowish amber in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy white head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Hints of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of sweet adjunct malts - corn and grains stand out.

T: Light to moderate flavors of sweet corn adjunct malts with a lighter dosage of grainy adjunct malts. Hints of apple juice. No perceptible hop flavors or bitterness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Due to the lighter overall flavors and aromas along with the slight amount of sweetness, this beer pairs very well with the fragrant and spicy flavors of Ethiopian cuisine - there is no competition between the flavors. Nothing special but I would get it again at another Ethiopian restaurant.

Bottle at Meskerem, New York, NY

A: The beer is clear yellowish amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that never completely faded away.
S: Light aromas of adjunct malts are present in the nose along with hints of sweetness.
T: The taste is a little sweet and has flavors of adjunct malts along with hints of apples.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: There's nothing special about this beer, but it is easy to drink and of course goes well with Ethiopian food.

Well, it's tough not being able to get Harar, but I will make do and learn to live with some Meta. This beer pours beautifully with a nice amber touched gold and a nice creme head. The nose is what I would hope and expect from an Ethiopian beer. The flavor, thank God, is just the same. It has that slightly sweet tone to it that I expect from Ethiopian beers. Feel is pretty smooth. But the main thing is that this thing is so drinkable. I love this stuff. I really do wish I could get this more often and easier. If you've never had an Ethiopian beer, you are missing out.

Pours amber with a small, white head.
Nose is very faint. Not much showing except soft honey and vegetal notes. A bit of hay too.
Very sweet tasting with masses of honey. Quickly fades to a vegetal note. No bitterness. Cloying.
Body is stupidly watery.

A - Somewhat cloudy, light straw. Nice head, not much lace.

S - Bright smell. Malt and some honey in there.

T - Pretty close to the smell. Malt and a fairly present honey attribute.

M - Med body, good carb and balance.

D - Very interesting. We were at an Ethiopian restaurant so I decided to try it.

I have lived in Ethiopia for about two years now. Of all the local beers, this is by far my favorite. It definitely has more taste than all the others. I just finished one, which spurred me on to write this review and pour another...

Appearance: Light to medium amber color. Can see through it, but definitely isn't water. Gets a nice head when first poured, but quickly dissipates into a thin film.

Smell: Sort of a typical lager smell. Fresh, clean, sweet with just a hint of mustiness in the background.

Taste: Malt shines through above all else. You get a tiny taste of hops in the background. Very clean and refreshing, especially on a hot/sunny day.

Mouthfeel: Just enough carbonation to play around on your tongue and make you happy. Not too little that it feels like water and not too much that it feels like soda. It's quite nice.

Overall this is a very drinkable beer that plays very well to the Ethiopian climate. It has a lot of taste compared to the other local brews and puts most American lagers to shame. AND at 50 cents a bottle, it's really hard to pass up.

Was served a couple bottles of this at a local Ethiopian restaurant. It was wary of it being yet another so-so imported macro lager, and it may be that, but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. Pretty simple flavors and aromas, but it's marked with a very nice honey flavor. Very basic mouthfeel, but very drinkable, and an excellent complement to the Ethiopian food. Next time we go there, I'll order one of these to go with the meal.

I ordered this beer at my local Ethiopia joint. They had a dark and a light version. First, the bottle is neat looking. It was served with a pilsner glass. The beer looks like most American layers, a little darker. The nose is slightly malty, nothing impressive. The taste is unique and great. There is a sweetness followed by a crisp bone dry finish. This beer is a good find, I wish it were more readily available.

Poured from 330mL bottle into a Pilsner glass.

Appearance: nice medium golden hue with about three fingers of creamy white head. This is actually a very good looking beer, especially for the style; it's not deathly pale or anything.

Smell: light, somewhat sweet malt aroma. Not much in the way of hops, but not much in the way of adjuncts, either. So far, I'm quite impressed.

Taste: sweet and malty; flavor is pretty light but it's not bad. Bitterness comes in right at the end, and a good balance is achieved, though there's still not much at all in the way of hop flavor.

Mouthfeel: medium body with good carbonation and good creaminess. I'm continually dumbfounded by how much this beer shatters my expectations.

Drinkability: I am not sure why this is classified as an American-style adjunct lager; it is way better than this category normally is. The beer is a little sweet for my taste, but it honestly blew me away. If this is indicative of cheap beer in Ethiopia, then I have found one area where an American can be truly jealous of citizens of that country.

Appearance: Nice dark golden color.

Smell: Unexceptional

Taste: Like really, really delicious candy. No hops at all, but that's not a downside, as some people seem to think. This is not intended to be an IPA, folks. The sweetness is perfectly welcome, not cloying. There's a little spice in the finish, which lingers pleasantly.

Mouthfeel: Solid body coats the mouth.

Drinkability: I could drink these all afternoon. Very light, and at 5% a perfect session beer.

I found this a delightful accompaniment to an Ethiopian meal and a wonderful surprise to boot. There is considerable prejudice in the craft-beer community against lagers, which might explain some of these negative reviews. But if you have an open mind, you might find yourself really enjoying something new and unusual.
