Visited 3.16.11.

Located in a fairly busy mall, this is certainly one of the better bottle shops I've been in. Obvious care has been put into taking care of product re UV lighting. Really nice selection, especially hard to find Washington breweries and their one-off products. Good selection of Lost Abbey products (sadly not available in OR) they had a pretty big stack of Red Poppy, right next to the full range of bottled RR sours. A small wine selection. They had a $1 taster special, the day I visited they were doing stouts, really small pours (2 oz.) though. Very knowledgeable and caring staff. Given relative proximity Sea-Tac, this is a very worthy stop for the traveling BA. Reasonable prices with a Facebook check-in discount of 10% on 6 bottles of same product, though the bastardly 9+% sales tax cuts into any value priced bottles. Highly recommended.

Been here a couple times while visiting family on the west side.

Quality - Exceptional is a good word. This store makes sure to have all the best beers they can get a hold of.

Service - Decent staff who were friendly enough. Seemed to be caught up in other tasks while I was there both times but that's ok if they're working on getting more beer.

Selection - Too much for me to wrap my tiny head around. Hopefully I'll get to visit here a few more times and buy more beer.

Value - comparable to grocery store prices for comparable offerings.

I went here for the 99 Bottle's cellar sale expecting it to be somewhat of a mad house. Instead it was calm and ordered and the employee was super helpful. The shop was well lit and all of the items that should be stored cold were. They had a great selection and were super helpful whenever I asked any questions. I will definitely be returning. They had a great selection of beers from around the world and also had a very nice selection of glassware. They were easily accessible from the freeway. Completely polar opposite of my experiences at bottleworks in terms of the vibe and the helpfulness of the employees.

Great shop...I picked up some excellent bottles on a trip from the east coast, and I was stoked to check this place out. It definitely did not disappoint. They were super helpful and friendly, had the store organized, were willing to chat beer, and offered some good recs for locals that I was unfamiliar with (though the Dick's IPA was not the best). Great selection of PNW beers, smaller foreign section, and a nice collection of barleywines. I will definitely be back next time I visit my sister...check it out, the hype is warranted!

I go to this place quite often, they always have something new and something old I've always wanted to try. Beware, you will leave there and spend more than you anticipated, but only because you end up loading up on more than what you came for. Enormous selection of locals, nationals and internationals. Great heavy beer section as well as lighter ones. They always seem to get limited releases and enough so as I get to try the last of them as I find out about them. Great glassware section too. The place is roomy, spacious and inviting; newer craftsmanship of the place doesnt make it feel dingy like other bottleshops. This place is something I drive up from Tacoma for on a regular basis.

Good people in a weird place. the fed..

Plenty of local micro stuff, it seems, as much as they can get. A dozen cooler doors, at least, all packed with good stuff, pretty good selection of Germans, other imports. Not the largest belgian selection from what i remember, but definitely some cool stuff.

Seem to always have some of the good stuff: Russian River, Deschutes, etc available around here and are usually quite helpful.

Without fail, on purchases of over $100 (umm, nearly every time i've been there, what?) a few free glasses. Classy discount.

Haven't made it to one of their Wednesday $1 tastings, but they do that too.

So I need to apologize that I forgot to write this review earlier after I visited in June of this year (2010).

This place was amazing! Beers from all over the country although specializing in west coast beers. The selection is outstanding as well as the the employee that was working there, can't remember his name. He was showing me all around their small store giving me recommendations. When he heard me say my love for Older Viscosity he went into the cooler and came out with a dusty bottle of '08 Older Viscosity. AMAZING!

Wish we had a store dedicated to beer in Colorado that was like this one. This is a must stop beer store whenever you are in Washington.

Was really blown away by this place. As I recall, about 95% of their stuff are in coolers. I think anything can be purchased in singles, although I still would like to see more 6 pack selection, this seems to be a downward trend in availability.

Totally inconspicuous location. Wide open floor plan inside. They had all kinds of gems of selection. I mean, I got my first Southern Tier stuff here (3000 miles away), and it was still delicious. Anyways, after spending almost an hour going through the store and spending way more than $100, the dude at the register allowed me to pick out some pint glasses for free. Wish I was in the area more often. This is a world class bottle shop.

I mean, 99 bottles, Hollingshead, Discount Liquors . . . its in that elite grouping of retailers.

EDIT: On my second trip, they didn't give me anything free, and they get even stingier with the cardboard you wanna take. Still, I'm gonna keep shopping there, but its not quite as elite as my first impression, at least service wise.

We (Eva and I) swung by this store because we were in the area.

I was not expecting much being in Federal Way and being accustomed to Bottleworks located close to my home.

I was surprised by the great selection and presentation. I could not help myself grabbing bottle after bottle and stacking them at the check out counter. There were some nice surprises that we ended up buying. I finally walked out of there with a 132$ deduction from my credit card.

The place is set up very nicely with coolers to the left as you walk in and the special stuff in the back of the room on shelves.
That is where I did most my shopping.

If I lived in this area, I would be a regular.

Even though I lived in the south sound area for about a year I was blessed to live so close to such an exceptional beer store.

Their selection is just absolutely awesome, they have almost everything you want and if you don't find it ask Craig or Tiffany and I'm sure they will find it for you. They also get a lot of the good rare stuff.

Price is reasonable if not fair, my only qualm is the fact I always overspend when I'm there!

Service/appearance is what really sets 99 apart from other beer stores and believe me, I've my share of beer stores. It is a very well upkept store with nice wood floors and lights dimmed enough that it isn't like walking into wal-mart but not so dark that you feel like you're in a cave. The beer itself is all stocked very nicely in a wall to wall cooler on one side and another wall of non-cooled beer in the far back (out of sunlight).
Another positive thing- they update their facebook feed religiously so if you follow them you will know exactly what they get in, especially with rare beers. This is how I got the bal aged yeti.

In all, Craig and Tiffany have created what I'd call quite possibility the best beer store and they are wonderful owners who will not hesitate to provide help if you ask.

This place has almost everything available in Washington state, including some rarities and plenty of seasonals. I go here at least once a week to see what's new and it always takes me awhile to look over everything and decide what to buy. The only problem is that I always end up spending more than I planned due to the wonderful selection... The staff are helpful, if not a bit cold at times. I love that they do mix-n-match 6 packs, I love to try new things so buying singles is always a plus. They have occasional tastings though I have never been to one.

I visited 99 bottles for the first time today and was blown away. The place is clean and well-organized with an excellent selection and with exceptional service.

The bulk of the beers are stored in refrigerator cases, though many are stored just on the shelves; these tend to be the styles which aren't harmed by a little room-temperature storage. Each beer had a small shelf label which indicated the beer's name, country/state of origin, style, and a few ancillary notes, as well as the price.

The woman working the store today was very knowledgeable and made some recommendations based on the kinds of things I was looking for. In addition, when I checked out, she offered me a free glass from their selection of brewery glasses (I went with the Kasteel goblet). Now *that* is service.

Really an exceptional place -- we happened in there on a day when the master brewer from Rochefort was there, so we had a one dollar tasting that covered Rochefort 6, 8, and 10.

Everyone was friendly, and seemed very knowledgeable. Selection was quite genuinely exceptional. I saw several beers there that I have never seen anywhere else. Prices there are typically a little higher than other places, which is pretty typical for a specialty shop, but they can get away with it because they have such a difficult to beat selection.

It's a long way out of my way, so I won't be going back often, but I'll probably be back at some point.

99 Bottles is great. An attractive and clean store with knowledgeable and friendly staff and a great selection. If anything amazing and limited comes into the area, they WILL have it.

Prices are fair and they take great pride in selling you the best beer and keeping it in the best possible condition until it gets to you. Craig and Tiffany won't steer you wrong.

Be sure to follow them on Twitter (@99bottlesbeer) and on facebook to see in real time what they have going on and what may have just walked in the door and limited to only a few bottles available! If you say something like "sourpuss" at JUST the right time, you might just find yourself with some 08 Dissident!

If you are in the area and have never been here, stop by. It's only a few miles off of I-5.

Craig is AWESOME. Very outgoing, totally friendly. If you see him, be sure to flag him down and ask him some off the wall questions and I'm sure he'll be able to help you out just fine!

Love this place, so much in fact, that tonight I literally fought a blizzard that shut down the entire greater Seattle area to get up there and back. What takes 30 minutes, took nearly two hours. Seriously.

Thanks, 99 Bottles! Best bottle shop in Western Washington!

99 Bottles is an outstanding craft beer store. The location is a bit surprising in a very commercial shopping area where everything is a franchise. But this beer-only establishment is anything but corporate.

The selection is extensive and extremely well displayed. It's neat, organized and well presented. Every beer has a tag with some basic info including a description, price and abv. And more than half is refrigerated. I picked up a RR Temptation to haul back to NC. Unfortunately they were out of Pliny.

99 Bottles is a fantastic store and well worth a trip from just about anywhere.

99 Bottles is cleanest, best organized, and upscale beer store I have visited. Single bottle pricing makes trying new beers more affordable. Very large selection. Over 1000 different beers? I don't know, and I wasn't about to try to count. Seems the imports and Belgians in particular were better represented. I was hoping to find a good selection of Midwest and East Coast beers, IPAs in particular, but was disappointed. This is probably not the store's fault as much as it is a craft brew distribution limitation. Some beers readily available at good grocery stores were priced higher, which doesn't make sense to me.

A beautiful store. I suspect they have high overhead and I hope they make a successful go of it.

I live on the opposite side of the sound...the one WITHOUT all the nice beer places...so if I ever go to Tacoma or past Tacoma I make a point to stop here to expand my beer memories. Great selection of beers with half domestic, half imports, nice moderate selection of glassware. The staff help is hit and miss. They are always friendly, but some are more useful then others, some are beer experts..and some work in a beer store. I put prices at $$$ because I never seem to be able to spend less then $40 for 6-10 beers...but that is most likely my fault!

I was not sure I had time to stop at this beer store on my trip from Seattle to Portland. I am quite excited that I made the decision to get off the highway. This is a fantastic beer store and among top store's I've ever visited.

First it starts with the selection.. The entire left wall of the store is a cooler with rows and rows of single bottles of beer. (Note the name) All of it stored at refrigerated temperatures. There were also displays of specialty beers and imports.. Additionally, they had a very nice glassware selection.

I was interested specifically in options from the Northwest that I could take back east with me. Boy the decisions were very difficult. So difficult that I had to make another detour to the UPS store to send myself a package... (Does this qualify as a Trade with myself?)

But in reality, there was something even better about this store. It was both Craig & Tiffany. (The owners) These were great folks and could not have been more friendly and attentive. A special thanks to Craig for that last bottle you found for me!! Just an hour before I had visited Bottleworks in Seattle and the difference in the level of service was really unreal. If I could have pulled up a stool and opened one of the beers, I would have stayed for the day. When I visit Seattle this will be a mandatory stop.

The atmosphere was fantastic and it was clear that Craig's passion and vision is to cater to total beer geeks like myself.

Kudos to Craig and Tiffany for creating this beer wonderland.

what an excellent place!!!

right off I-5 in federal way, easy to get to.

i live 46 miles away and there is not much to choose from on the kitsap pennisula.

I've been there at least 12 times and each time is enjoyable.

the prices are very reasonable, and the staff and owners are always helpful.

this is definitely my store of choice. there are about 14 coolers, and about 7 shelves full of beer. there is well over 800 beers to choose from.

they are always bringing in new brews and have newsletters and tastings frequently.

99 Bottles is a great place to find virtually any bottled beer you can think of. They have both great prices and knowledgable employees who are willing to help. If I can't find the beer I want at top foods, chances are these guys will have it. Quality is top-line, not a hole in the wall like some beer stores. Service is excellent, staff is willing to help in any way they can. And they have the best beer selection south of seattle washington and north of portland oregon. I would recommend this place to anybody living in pierce county or south king county.

I love this place. It takes me about 30 minutes to get there, but I often pass it en route to other destinations and make sure I stop in. Selection is about as good as it could get out here. Yes a lot of the beer is expensive, but I know other places in the area where it is more expensive. Good beer comes at a price. Service is top-notch here as the staff loves to talk about beer and are extremely knowledgeable. Also, they seem to do 1-2 tastings per week with different breweries, distributors, and experts. I have even seen the head brewer at some of the best breweries on the chalk board as the tasting guest. If Michael Jackson were still around, I am pretty sure he would have already hosted a Belgian tasting here!

After moving from Rochester NY (home of Beers of The World) 16 years ago -- I was soooo happy to finally have a real beer store only 10 min away from my home. We used to have to drive to Seattle for any decent beer store and then we paid too much for the beers in my opinion. 99 Bottles has better prices, a huge selection that is constantly changing and fantastic service. No need to travel up the I-5 corridor any more. Finally! 99 Bottle fills a large beer gap here in South King County. They're open 6 days a week and closed on Mondays so plan ahead!

I visited based on the recommendation of imacoug (a beer buddy). Fortunately I was spending the weekend on the south end of the Seattle metro area so the store was conveniently located. If I had been focused elsewhere (like downtown) it would have been a trek to frequent the store.

There was a decent quantity to select from. However, much of the inventory was in coolers. This works out well for the locals but I live 200 miles away so I prefer to buy bottles off the shelf.

The shopping mall the store is located in is at a very busy intersection and the mall is very busy. I had a hard time parking close to the store. However, the staff helped carry out my order...good service.

The store is very clean and well organized. The staff take great pride in the store and their mission.

I'll definitely be back.

--I made the drive to 99 Bottles w/ a friend of mine while we both decided, somewhat spur of the moment, to sing 99 Bottles as we drove. Due to where we lived we got to -79 Bottles of Beer on the Walls after getting to Zero. This friend of mine had just decided to try to start drinking some different beers than the typical mass produced/marketed beers out there and we were both amazed by what this store had to offer.

Having just yesterday gone to Bottleworks I wasn't sure if 99 Bottles would live up to my expectations. All I can say is...WOW! The manager was very friendly and gladly answered any of our questions while making some great recommendations. The store it's self was very clean and well kept, door upon door of beer heaven. A very nice large variety and the store gets new types in weekly making it a place you can always check out to find new drinks.

Having gone here and being so thrilled w/ the place my friend and I decided to embark upon a mission. 1 Beer a day until we try all of the bottles. Only time will tell if we can keep true to this mission but just doing basic math it will take us over 3 years...so we may just try and sample our way as we go :) One thing is for sure....We will be making stops at least 2 a month to this great store

Edit: I'm updating my review after making another stop at 99 Bottles. This place is simply amazing. I can't stress this enough, if your in Washington OR just passing through....stop by 99 Bottles. They are always getting new stock in and just have great friendly staff who really care about what they do. There's no other place to buy beer for me...this is it. I've now taken a great long time friend and my fiancee here and they both are amazed at the place and will be repeat customers. Keep up the damn good work

I took a short drive from Fort Lewis to Tacoma with a friend after learning about 99 bottles. Upon entry the line of beer coolers immediately gets your attention. The place is set up very nicely and is appealing to the eye. The wooden shelves with singles and six packs are well stocked. The experience was a little overwhelming with such a great selection. I found myself in a state of vertigo after I returned to the place I entered a few times to review the options.

The service was friendly and I couldn't find anything out of line as far as pricing goes. I chose a Caracole and an old chub stick lip moisturizer to go along with my liquid purchases. I was highly impressed and will most certainly be returning the next time I am in the Tacoma area.
