For me, it's a toss up between Zeno's and the Rathskeller when close to campus (Otto's is not included in the equation because of its distance). Zeno's has a better beer selection, but it's smaller. And they both have charming 'decor', but the Rathskeller has way more - except that the greater "frat house" vibe brings it down. The service is about equal... it's better at Zeno's, but the bar is smaller so it takes longer... the Rathskeller is not as good, but it's much easier to get a beer. Food, well that's a toss-up to, and I don't think either one wins out. So, in the end I think I'd go to whichever one was the least crowded. Or both. ;)

While not a beer bar, The All American Rathskeller is definitely a great place to hang out. Once you walk in, you feel like you are in a cave. The low ceiling and the concrete floor with the heavy support beams complete the appearance.

The bartenders and servers are all really friendly and helpful. On crowded nights, the service does go down, but not to the point where you feel neglected or that it's unexpected. The bartenders know how to pour a beer or make nearly any drink you could want.

The food is brought down from Spats upstairs which is owned by the same owners as the Rathskeller.

Being the oldest bar in State College, it was opened three days after Prohibition ended, it is a definite visit. Just be prepared to leave smelling like smoke.
