Original review (7-6-07) - The Beachwood BBQ sits at the back end of Main St., just west of PCH. Walking in, it is quite cramped, with just 3-5 seats at the bar and a collection of tables. Luckily, I went here around 4 o'clock Thursday, so it wasn't crowded at all. Their tap list is quite good for 10 taps or so, they concentrate on California microbrews. The only non-California brews they had were Avery's Maharaja and Paulaner's Hefeweizen, no macros on tap. I had a Triple Rock Dragon's Milk, which is disappearing quite quickly, one keg I think, and since I was low on Cash, I had the sweet potato fries, which were quite good (and high in beta-carotene to boot). I did not have a chance to try some of their BBQed meats, I will have to return. The food I had was good, the beer and beer list were exceptional for such a small place, a great place to visit.

Edit (12-23-07): Since the expansion happened I've upped the atmosphere and selection scores.

Edit 5/5/08 - Definitely now my regular haunt, go there at least once, usually twice a week, highly recommended.

Food Edit - I usually have the brisket sandwich during happy hour - a great deal for $5. For dinner definitely try the mac'n'cheese, they use gruyere, yum. The deviled eggs are great. For entrees I'd recommend the wild boar meatloaf in blueberry sauce or venison, I'm a huge fan of game meat, so this is right up my alley. Check this place out on New Year's Eve, Gabe creates some interesting game meat dishes and will always have something special planned.

Update (July 2011) - Lowering the atmosphere score a bit, let me tell you why. It's just gotten so crowded lately, especially on the weekend, it seems the only time I can get a seat is mid-week happy hour. Hopefully Beachwood II can assuage the situation, and make me anticipate a seat instead of standing for the first time in a while, like it was back pre-2010.

This is your spot if you love IPAs and like some good food to go with them. Much smaller than the Long Beach location with a more concise tap list. Bottle selection however is more extensive than at Long Beach.

Love Beachwood BBQ! The Seal Beach location is small, at times can be crowded – but always has a very mellow vibe. The beer selection is outstanding. While the Seal Beach location doesn’t carry as many in-house offerings at the Long Beach location – it has a greater selection of guest taps. Moreover, Beachwood offers a hop cam, so people can stay up to date on the latest offerings.

Stopped by during Beer Safari in Long Beach/Orange area. Loved Seal Beach and community. Crowded of course but still laid back and a bit of a reminder of early 70's So Cal @ beaches.
BBBQ was small but great. Right on the street of town walk way,
Interesting that it had more taps than LB location, but less of their own beers. Like LB more for BBBQ beer choices (which were excellent); like SB for vibe.
Good news is that both had fantastic guest beers...including great choices from Alpine.

Started coming here when it first opened. Even then Gabe had a grand vision of what craft beer can be. So stoked for the success of Beachwood Brewing

Awesome menu that you'll find some "interesting" stuff (in a good way, I'm just not into alligator stew). The fries, BBQ chicken salad, hush puppies and ham are amazing. Oh ya, their tap list is always solid and the bottle list is pretty killer. Be prepared to wait if you go on a weekend/evening or if there is a special release. Seal Beach is extremely small but a cool vibe. LB has a rad outdoor patio which is good in the summer.

Outstanding food and guest tap list. I loved this place, I just wish they had more than one of there own beers left the day i arrived. That said the many beers they did offer were carefully chosen and dynamite. I had to visit the longbeach location to enjoy their beer, and that place was also worth the trip. Best Gastropub i've been to, I see why the have been ranked #1 in that category for multiple years!

Great food, great tap list, and you can almost find RR on tap. Can get a little cramped at times though.
